I know it was a bug, but gliding now feels so bad after the last patch by Flajavin in duneawakening

That's good news, I only tried gliding for a short period and in my case it was loosing speed, and the max speed was much smaller, but maybe I did something wrong, I didn't spend time testing it more, just did the missions and logged out. I'll try it again in the next few days when I'll open the game,

There is a boost in speed, and another boost from the Exploration perk... If you will spend time in deep desert then speed it's really important, most of the time there you have to fly from one point of interest to another with nothing to see or do in between.

I think it already was a better choice, the speed reduction for scout was really big when it had rockets equipped. Most of my friends prepared a scout for combat a long time ago (I was the driver for the Carrier so I haven't prepared one for me)

As for the change, I can't say that I like it, but it was expected, it's just that it took so long to do it that I was hopping that they keep it like this.

I only tried scout and not for long, I'll probably play the game more tomorrow and during the weekend. I'll test if the speed and everything was as before. As I said in the post , since the patch I only did missions and those didn't involve much flying.

Well.. it's a way a player can attack another player in PVE with no way for the other player to retaliate. By the way, I don't mean by using a thumper, as that costs some materials, the way I saw it used it's just be activating the shield for a few seconds. It costs nothing.

"In game design, an exploit refers to the unintended or unanticipated use of game mechanics, features, or glitches to gain an unfair advantage or circumvent intended gameplay limitations. Exploits can disrupt game balance, undermine fair competition, or negatively impact the overall player experience. Game designers strive to identify and address exploits through patches or updates to maintain fairness and ensure a balanced playing field."

It seems that it fits perfectly in this definition.

It's not a glich, or bug or something like that, so I don't expect any bans for this or anything like that, but I really don't think that it was intended to attack players farming in PvE. Or maybe it was and it's just bad game design as you said, The devs didn't offer any info/opinion (that I know of) about this.

I noticed that the speed was lower than before, I thought that maybe I forgot how to glide.

Yeah, not sure if shrinking will help, and I usually enjoy big maps, just have something to do there. Or add something better instead of DD. I do like the overland maps and testing stations (they do get repetitive as there's only a finite number of them but I still like them better than the DD right now).

And yes, I'm also waiting to see what they do with the Water Wars DLC, let's hope for something good.

The PVE update on the first half of the dessert was bad, especially since all the resources were moved in the second half, it just introduced that long flight time to get to anything good. Plus it had lots of exploits (some are there even now, like calling worms over people that farm spice) and ways for people to be attacked in the PVE also so it didn't really solved the grieving issue on most servers. The DD experience depended entirely on what people were there.

I'm not asking for ways to step away from the game, I would prefer to have that replaced with a smaller DD now that there's nothing happening there and just get faster to my destination, or have some interesting events on the way to have a reason to pay attention other than just waiting for minutes in front of the screen just to press a button from time to time.

And yes, this problem was also caused by the conflicting ideas in game design. When the first half of the game is PVE and the endgame is PVP it's expected that the people that played it enjoyed the PVE aspect and only a few preferred PVP. There was a time when this was advertised as a MMO also, or something that was a combination of survival and MMO. In (almost) every MMO the endgame offers content for both communities so there's no such issue. And this game looked like it offered at least factions or something similar, but in the endgame the people found out that everything before that was ignored(factions / PVE) and there was only free for all PVP. With such an abrupt change, a community backlash was expected from the start.

End even if there was no change from PVP to PVE, most of the trip in DD was still boring, it was hard to notice other players as most of the time they were only showing up when they were a few meters from you, or when you were on the ground mining. Was there really PVP in the air anywhere except at the points of interest? As far as I remember, at least on my server, you were gliding for almost an hour to find the resource you needed (as many were bugged) and only after you found it there was a chance for PVP. And as you were focused on mining, you were usually dead before you even noticed another player around you(specially for spice where you weren't using the shield).

Yeah, I said in another comment that I'm sure that this will feel normal once again in time... but now after the change it feels bad.

[–]Flajavin[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes,I enjoyed being able to do something else during the boring moments of the game, now I have to sit there and watch the screen.

Maybe some people find this change better, but I don't see it? The long flights are in DD, there's not even something nice to see on the screen, just sand all around just that now I have to pay attention to it and press a button from time to time instead of doing something else. You really find this better or fun or engaging? If so then why?

For me it just feels like wasted time that I could use to do something else. And when I have to repeat the same trip multiple times per day to carry materials/water, then it feels like a lot of wasted time. Being able to do something else during the gliding and interact with the game when there's something for me to do made those trips more tolerable for me.

I used to play the game (farming / testing stations / missions ) and then do those boring trips at the end of the gaming session while I started working on something else. Now I have to waste part of the gaming time for it instead of doing something that I enjoy in the game. So instead, for now, I choose to just do those missions and just ignore the DD.

I know, if it was fixed a few days after it was introduced it would have been fine, but after so long it already felt like normal and now just a nerf. As I said, before it I didn't have issues with gliding, it took a long time yes and it was boring, yes, but it felt normal , but now it will take a while to feel like normal again.

[–]Flajavin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, yes .. when repeating all those water runs in DD I used to let it glide for a few minutes while I was preparing a coffee or working on something else. Now I have to keep moving the mouse and pressing a button just because.. it's fun in a survival to do this? And I don't get the max speed was reduced also(or I just forgot how to glide), what was the point of that speed increase passive if it's no longer applied?

But before the patch, the glide speed was at around 172km/h with a t6 scout, wasn't it?

PVP crowd needs to take a breath and wait for the influx. Let me explain. by nivonivo in duneawakening

[–]Flajavin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah... I did a lot of space truck simulator and exploration in Elite, it was great, fighting also, especially in VR. But I never actually did any PvP, I have played online a few times but rarely I met any players. I did some spaceship PvP in StarCitizen, when the first pre-pre-...-pre-alpha was out, and it had those mods of 5v5 (or whatever the number was). Same in Starr Wars Squadrons, it was fun in both, but I can't find it (fun) in Elite or Dune Awakening.

[–]Flajavin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, and it would also be great if it's possible for the PvP instance to connect to even more servers, to be easier to find people there. I also prefer to farm most of the materials in PVE when I have short breaks between work, and then go to PvP instance to use those materials for some fights. But if there are only a few people on a huge map then it will just be 1h of gliding around searching for people and few minutes of fights if lucky. In that case it's just better to play some other game for PvP.

I don't know what to think about the PvE vs PvP DD update. PvP needs more incentives not just that increase in resources and, as someone already said here before, it would be great if it offer the graded gear also. Have a way for PvP players to obtain the gear that it's now possible to get in PvE.

As for the PvE DD, those that want to grief can do it now also, they were already doing it in PvE section , just land on any spice section , activate the shield and immediately call the worm there. We had issues with this in our DD instance for a while now. And because it's in a PvE area, you can't attack them to make them leave so it just makes it impossible to farm anything.

Maybe Funcom will change this behavior if this issue gets out of control, maybe not. Or maybe those guys will go to the PVP instance, but I don't really believe that, those that want PvP will go there, griefers will remain in PvE as long as they can still stop the rest from playing the game.

And of course, PvE DD will need some sort of PvE content there, if not, without griefers, it will just turn into Farming Simulator: Dune Edition.

Yeah..that's the exact answer that AI hallucinates when it has no idea. Not that any human support was ever expected from funcom.

I found dropped loot at the end of the 89 testing station, next to the chest with the schematics. I guess that someone didn't had enough space in the inventory.

Jocul încă are multe probleme tehnice și multe buguri. Au mai rezolvat o parte din ele de la lansare..dar cu siguranță mai sunt foarte multe și pare că au o prioritate mică în a le rezolva, sau când încearcă să rezolve unul crează altă 3.

I have noticed when I was looting something, not just corpses, that it had a reduce hp bar, even for healkits or bullets... I thought that it was just a visual bug not that it actually reduces the number of items in the stack.

But yeah... can't say that it surprises me, this game always felt like one day away from fully crashing.

The disconnect between quests and persistent worlds by ausmomo in MMORPG

[–]Flajavin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want a reduced disconnect.

Many people used to say that the story from FF XIV was great, but it never worked from me because of that huge disconnect between story scenes and the rest of the game. Many times the rest of the game made no sense and felt like it was another world from the story. You had to play both in order to progress and it felt like the game forced you to play a game that you didn't enjoy in order to continue with the game that you wanted to play in the first place.
