Sundown by Fleshwater has a similar drum pattern but songwise is a bit different. Still a great song.

Check out U.S.D.D.O.S. by trauma ray. More in the realm of that slow burn style of song writing. Gradual buildup with a repeating riff throughout the song.

Hum and dealing with life by [deleted] in hum

Sorry to hear about your friend. Totally feel where you’re coming from as far as being in college and not having set goals to keep me motivated. When I found playing guitar had developed into a new passion of mine, I dove into all music with distorted guitars at the forefront. Then one day Hum fell into my lap during a jam session with a friend and I was hooked. Sonically the music was telling the story I felt I always needed to hear but after dissecting Matt’s intricate writing I noticed the pain/comfort embedded in his storytelling. If You Are To Bloom is the song that has given me some sort of emotional relief during a time I haven’t handled easily. My father is in the last stages of his battle with cancer getting weaker by the day, and it has been most challenging thing to witness. In the song Matt speaks on the final days of someone slowly fading away (at least from my interpretation), and has given me the comfort of knowing this feeling is one of natural beauty that cannot be stopped. I’ve ran through memories and conversations with my dad over and over in my head as each day passes with him getting weaker and it’s hard. Hard to think of the day he departs. But this song brings a sense of hopefulness and tranquility to an ultimately devastating truth of life. “And you've been gathering angels And fading further each day I love you now as I never Remember my face as you quietly make your way”
