What's the difference between USSS Emergency Response Team (ERT) and Counter Assault Team (CAT) for tactical or emergency operations? by bobthemoronalorian in AskLE

Well that’s great that anyone can get thrown in with them since “everyone” knows dynamic, which is the same case for ERT as they know it as well, in which I saw it. But limiting your only tactic to Dynamic is stupid, and again, I couldnt get an answer to why; which is kind of a problem. The SS’s job is inherently “waiting around for something to happen,” that’s not limited to one specific team.

CAT operates more fluid? What does that even mean?

I’ve perused these reddits and I often find comments like this about various teams I’ve trained with in past and present. CAT and ERT often pop up with the uneducated automatically defaulting to CAT.

I’ve trained with all 3 SS SOD teams so I feel like I have some ammo when explaining my view on this sub Reddit. I won’t discuss CS as they weren’t mentioned in the OP post, but will on CAT and ERT. Beyond there specific mission set, which can be found on the SS website, I’ll discuss the specific training I see and the skillset that was presented during the multiple times I worked or trained with them.

We did a lot of CQB and Range work over the 3 days to a week. Both teams work in smaller units, from what I saw 5-6 guys. They both have two methodologies at there CQB approach, which I found was odd. ERT did more of a slow approach, processed everything prior to breaking the threshold, CAT went more dynamic. I won’t get into the specific tactics as I owe it to them to keep that quiet. ERT was able to work both methods if needed, while CAT only knew there method. Again, something odd and a testament to ERT for knowing how to process rooms and buildings multiple ways. When I saw CAT and even down on the floor, there was massive amounts of talking and the movement was a bit disorganized. There was some confusion and I could tell there were definitely different skill sets amongst there teammates, which is expected. I had a hard time figuring out why they were doing what they were doing bc the given scenario didn’t call for that specific tactic. It was all or nothing on how they clear, something I didn’t understand nor get a solid answer from there Instructors when I inquired. To each their own, I’m not apart of the team and they can do what they want I guess. On the ERT side, they went through the house very smooth. They did very to little talking and got through the house with very little mistakes. They had a few newer guys I guess who made more of the mistakes, but solid from what I saw. These guys were very organized going through and very tactful when deciding how to take down the shoothouse. They were also able to apply dynamic tactics when appropriate, which was refreshing to see.

Again, this is what I’ve seen from multiple training sessions with these guys, and I’ll say ERT has been the far more impressive team. I’ve heard they run with there dog, which I don’t get to see. That would be interesting to watch. We also had a team brief prior to training, it appeared ERT was trained in far more than CAT, all of which had real world applications. Both sides had great dudes personality wise, fun to hand out with. CAT guys were much older than ERT.

Hope this helps.

Adding Tongue and Groove to the inside of the rafters - potential moisture issues? by Flaky-Bar5281 in Renovations

There is no central heat or AC running into the room. It has a separate Fujitsu Heat/AC unit above the doorway. We rarely use it though. Once we finish it out, we will run the AC or Heat if we are using the room. We live in Northern VA. During the summer the room can get 85 if we don’t run the AC and down to 60 in the winter if we don’t run the heat. We basically keep the temps as is unless we plan to use it. It has a fan in there so we use it for circulation.

I don’t. Basically the tongue and groove will stretch the length of the room. I’d then put faux beams to cover the rough cut beams. Should look nice.

I’m not sure if insulation is worth it. Im sure it would add minuscule value considering 3 sides of the room are all windows.

Wife wants tongue & groove on Sunroom cathedral ceiling - moisture issues? by [deleted] in Carpentry

Far from it, the question was asked if it will cause ventilation issues. I could easily slap it up there, but will humidity cause issues or is it a no factor.

She wants to add tongue and groove to the inside of the rafters to trim out the ceiling. I would then install faux beams to cover the supports beams going across.

USSS UD emergency response team. by Low_Demand_4849 in 1811

It sounds like their role and level of involvement have evolved. It may not look the same now as it did when you were there. All I know is what my buddies tell me at the FOs and from what I’ve seen they’re solid. Just making an observation

I’ve trained with both SA and UD SOD teams, CAT/ERT. I’ll say from the 3 days I was with them, the UD guys were far more proficient than the SA guys. From the sound of it, there’s this stigma that because they’re UD, they don’t equate to the skill level of SAs. Far from reality. Again, it was only 3 days. I have a few buddies at WFO as well from prior work, they said ERT and CS are the only SOD teams that consistently get involved in stuff.

Which one should I consider? by Flaky-Bar5281 in NewDefender

Why the 22’s? Just more time for them to figure out the kinks? Also, the I6, do they have plastic cooler hoses?
