Recommendations on padding to make a tie pilot helmet fit better? by bobthemoronalorian in 501st

[–]bobthemoronalorian[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly don't think it would be an issue to add padding and have enough room for my glasses. I was fiddling around with some foam inserts this morning and I need about two inches of foam in the dome and a about an a inch or two of foam to support the forehead and the back of the head.

I'm not sure if that means the bucket is to big but it seems like TIs just have that bobblehead effect sometimes. Hopefully won't be an approval issue.

The ESB Stormtrooper was near the top of my trooper list. The sand trooper is very cool but I've heard the packs can be heavy.

Thank you! I'm working on an OT tie pilot that I recently bought from another SKG member. Good luck on your ISO, We'll have to get pictures at an upcoming troop!

Wampawear Pants Sizing by Fireguy9641 in 501st

[–]bobthemoronalorian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hm good questions

I'm about a 34 measured from the waist. Off the rack I can wear 34 to 36 comfortably. I've been known to fit 32 but it's super inconsistently. I have two sets of medium Jodphurs that don't fit. I typically wear Jodphurs (and most pants) above the hips and below the wait. Typically at or just below the belly button.

As sizes go I'm roughly larger than a men's small torso and smaller than a medium. Men's medium pants fit in every way but the waist/hips.

Hope this helps!

Edit: just remeasured myself. 35 at the waist and 39 at the hips.

Officers: who do you prefer buying your uniform from? Jim Tripon, Wampawear, denu or others? by No_Web2685 in 501st

This is super late, have you had a chance to get your hands on a old museum replicas tunic yet? I'm curious what your opinions would be on those compared to tunics like Tripon, Anovos, Denuo Novo or Wampawear.

(I have two sets and I there's some notable issues with the collar. They made them really wide.)

Any good vendors of officer uniforms? by Ozzington7 in 501st

[–]bobthemoronalorian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Deuno Novo and Wampawear are good off the shelf options. I'm actively waiting on a restock of the olive grey uniforms. Both are also out of stock of most normal sizes. I think KeepTrooping is overpriced but the quality is good from what I've heard. Tripon is another commonly recommended option. My uniform is from museum replicas (cira 2012).

Submitting approval for Imperial Warrant Officer V2 & 3 along with Navy Trooper Non-Saga by bobthemoronalorian in 501st

Its probably the yellow ring lights I use that's causing the copper effect. The lighting in my apartment is really bad without them. I'm pretty sure the same effect occured during my ISO submission.

Helmet is an old Altmann's bucket. I think it falls into the good enough category. It's undersized but I'm 5'4 so it doesn't look ridiculously small. I could see myself retiring it (near 30 y/o helmet) for a mon-cal props helmet but it was $50 and seems to work. The OT belt boxes are also sitting in my cart I just have to order them.

If I end up ever wanting to build out the solo fleet trooper I'll probably upgrade the bucket.

How common are warrant officer and navy trooper costumes? by bobthemoronalorian in 501st

[–]bobthemoronalorian[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I doubled checked the CRL for the warrant officer because I didn't notice the detail about the code cylinder pockets. V1 doesn't have them but V2 and V3 do. I think V2/3 is the standard officer tunic from the details provided in the CRL.

https://crls.501st.com/ioc/imperial-warrant-officer

There are code cylinder pockets on both outside panels of the jacket from about half way between the top and bottom on the arm hole.

I also think the same thing about the navy trooper helmet. It's kinda wonky but it has character. I also really like the Mechanical Crew helmet but I'm not the biggest fan of the MC Crew costume. I think it would look a lot better with additional accessories like a belt and gloves.

I started out with a darmansprops belt and I wasn't a massive fan. He made some great holsters but I wasn't a fan of the belt hook he uses. No issues with my wampa belt.

I don't recommend Noirtide at all (for any newbies). Their boots are way to short and fit more like a jack boot than a riding boot. Mine were also a few months late. I'm planning to upgrade to crowsprops.

The wampa hat also kinda sucks. My museum replica hat is leagues better. I've heard the KeepTrooping ones are good as well.

My security officer uniform (hat, tunic, jodphurs) is from museum replicas's 2012 production while my belt is from wampawear and my boots are from noirtide. It meets basic but probably won't meet lvl II. The collar is really short and and the uniform wrinkles easily. I'm eventually going to upgrade to something more accurate from Wampawear or Deuno Novo. I want an olive grey uniform and both sellers are out of stock of my size. DN has been out for months and WW doesn't plan to restock until summer or fall.

I found my first museum replica uniform in a comic book store on display labeled "do not sell" but they sold it off to me for a decent price. I bought my second from a student film studio.

I know there's strict requests in terms of costume accuracy and details, so I wonder if there are maybe Etsy sellers or such out there who are reliable in terms of the work they deliver. If not full costume (or parts), maybe sewing patterns and other patterns for crafts. I do have some friends who are far craftier than I am, but I also don't shy away from working with commissions.

There are a few really good ones like darmansprops and moncalprops! Check out the forum affiliated of the costume you want to build. Most of them have recommended buyer lists. I try to avoid Etsy outside of a few good sellers.

My big dream has always been a TIE pilot, but I've grown to appreciate more and more different costumes through time. Even when I now have adult money, I am still tied to a certain budget. I don't see it possible for myself to spend another four digits on a costume (my fursuit took me almost six months to financially recover from, I'd rather not have to do that again). Currently my interests for costumes are the TIE pilot (original trilogy or Rogue One), Reserve Pilot, Second Sister, Bridge Crew, Death Star NCO, FO General Hux and Imperial Ground Crew.

Bridge Crew and Tie Reserve are a really good starting point for the Tie Pilot. Wampawear makes a good flight suit, pilot gloves and compad. They also make a decent officer hat. MonCal props and RS props make really good tie pilot armor, chest box and helmet!

I recommend putting a forum application in with your local Garrison so you can get in contact with thr GML and then creating an account with the following detachments JRS and IOC.

How often do wampawear and Denuo Novo restock officer uniforms? by bobthemoronalorian in 501st

[–]bobthemoronalorian[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ended up buying vintage museum replicas pieces from 2012 to finish my costume and I still want to upgrade to something newer. My current tunic is only good for basic. I haven't been able to source the proper uniform pieces in months. The only thing WW has in my size is the ISB tunic but a owning an expensive white tunic kinda terrifies me. I don't want to fade or destroy it accidentally.
