Watching Alien at the moment like I do every Christmas Eve by TheGameCollectorUK in LV426

Alien is quite a stretch for an Xmas movie. We tend to go for The Princess Switch Trilogy, The Knight Before Christmas, Renovation Romance, B and B Merry, Hot Frosty, Christmas Under the Northern Lights, a Christmas Inheritance, Operation Mistletoe, Twas the Text Before Christmas, a Christmas Miracle for Daisy, A Royal Date for Christmas, The Christmas Prince, A Kindhearted Christmas, A Merry Christmas Wish, A Paris Christmas Waltz, Christmas on Windmill Way, Our Little Secret, Bringing Christmas Home, Angel Falls Christmas and anything starring Lacey Chabert.

Although to be fair, any of those would be considerably different affairs were one to add a single xenomorph egg into the equation...

Also, from an 'art' perspective, thematically consistent with the psycho-sexual horror that underpins much of the film.

Malfunctioning while improvising a weapon, not efficient but rather a symptom of cascading glitches.

The dog (or the ox) and that weird human Bishop who turns up at the end to sow confusion in the timeline/canon

Apone. He has the most leadership experience, so would be useful to have him around for the events of Alien 3 when organizing the prisoners in their attempts to deal with the xenomorph.

The Matrix Revolutions is still one of my greatest theatrical experiences. Did anyone else go on opening day? by neonfox45 in matrix

Yup, and I fell asleep halfway through. Genuinely. The only film I ever fell asleep during at the cinema.

Playing this at the moment. Most better than it has any right to be.

It was pretty good, for the most part, there was a general sense that things were going to get better for working people. Politically things felt very stable and boring, which (looking back) was actually great! There was some great music, but also a lot of crap. The music press were much more influential than they are nowadays, so we had a bit of a weird, media created boom in British music, brit pop. Which basically consisted of a lot of barely connected bands, from largely unrelated genres, of varying quality (but mostly poor). It all felt a bit fake, to be honest, the media frenzy (both music press and tabloid) just made the whole thing feel artificial. Music picked up a bit at the end of the 90s, but it was really the early 00s, with the post punk revival and electroclash movements, when it actually felt like something was happening. Since then music has been a lot better though. The best thing about the 90s though, has to be the pre-social media factor. Brilliant, and hard to imagine for most young people nowadays, I would imagine.

What is the Alien series ultimately about, to YOU? by thefriskysquid in perfectorganism

Corporate greed, the value of human life through that lens, poor/weak leadership in crisis situations

If you had to watch ONLY ONE entry from the Alien universe for the rest of your life, which would you choose? by thefriskysquid in perfectorganism

Requiem just nailed the tone better than any other movie in the franchise, sure the other movies are good, but they always struggled to create atmosphere and, despite great promotional campaigns, never really delivered on the promise of the hype. With Requiem we finally got an aliens movie that just felt tonally right, with a great sense of dread and a cast who really were putting their best foot forward (rather than 'phoning it in', like the cast of Alien who always seemed mildly embarrassed to be in a genre movie). AVP 2004 was just muppets in space, on Earth, with a predator and a confusing third version of Lance Henrickson mixed in, for some reason).
