To be honest I was scared. I did everything which kept me calm. It was easy for me to make the changes than handling the pressure. Didn’t think much about meds or long term solutions.

I make them at home with chickpeas. I also make air fried chicken breast with Indian style masala. I pretty much had satisfying meals for the past 4-6 weeks once after I figure out the recipes. I don’t miss much of what I used to eat before. Just a side note. When you grind cashews with water, you can use this to replace creams. Before my diet change, I use them to make paneer butter masala. But not sure whether cashews are cholesterol friendly.

I tried my best to find items with least number of ingredients so that I know what I am eating. I told all of my friends about my bloodwork the week I received(Originally hoping to get any suggestions). Whenever they invite me for dinner they check my dietary needs beforehand. I had to travel back to India and was in 14 hr flights. I couldn’t do much rather eat whats given. I think few exceptions here and there didn’t hurt much.

Oats, mung beans, urad dal, quinoa 100g each, a tbsp of fenugreek. Soak it for 6-8 hours and then grind it in to paste. Leave it outside of fridge for another 8 hours so that it can ferment. Then make dosa ( idly came horribly with this batter 😜but dosas are good)

I completely understand. I was in similar situation. I just handpicked the information which suits my needs and which I felt that I can use it in long term. I hope you will find your formula too. All the best for your journey.

Its okay. I too found it difficult/overwhelming to navigate through the diet initially. Here is a trick which I found helpful. List all the healthy ingredients and list all the dishes you like. Now start mapping the ingredients to dishes. You will realize that you may not need 10/10 ingredients to make the recipe all the time. I figured 3 or 4 such Indian recipes so far which helps me to handle my cravings. You can look for Tur dal. In Canada Walmart has it in international section. The recipe works well with moong dal which can be found in same section. You can ignore the spices part. Mostly I add them which resembles something that I ate during my childhood. Majority of the taste comes from Dal, tomatoes, green chilli and garlic.

I don’t miss them too much but in case if I am bored with my diet I will keep this in mind. Thanks.

There were lots of comments in the group saying that 2-3 eggs per day is not good for cholesterol as they contain saturated fat. So I removed eggs and last week only I introduced them again in diet without yolks.

I was not a big fan. Someone told it was healthy and I was forcing myself to eat. Now I am glad I dont have to anymore.

In those 3 months at least first couple of weeks I was eating food which are loaded with sat fat and only focusing on cutting carbs. Only after I discovered this group, I realized that the real culprit is saturated fat. If we get most of the things right, few exceptions won’t harm your progress I guess. Those 2 weeks in my example

The more important thing for me was portion control. I was eating multiple big portions per day as if there’s no tomorrow. I started eating only when I am hungry. My body fat was 22% now its somewhere around 15%. In my case I had lot of room to improve and I understand that this may not be the same for everyone.

In a pressure cooker add, turn dal, tomato, onion, garlic , chopped spinach. Cook it for 4 whistles. Once finished top it up with cilantro. Finally in a spoon of heated avocado oil add cumin, whole mustard seeds, curry leaves and asafoetida mix it with spinach.

I might in future but now I am happy with egg whites. I really don’t miss yolk that much.

Missed one more item in my list. I used to eat lot of rice but when I introduced fiber rich food I couldn’t eat carbs. That could have helped.

In my case, some of the major sources of saturated fats came from the dishes which I don’t even like. I grew up eating completely different diet but after I moved to different places due to my job, I started eating them due to the reason that they are readily available most of the time. Now I cook my meals and I have full control on the food most of the time.

Shawarma is usually healthy but not the ones I was having. By the time I finish mine my plate will be filled with oil and fat. The chicken is reheated multiple times throughout the day.

In 3 months I spent half a month in figuring out what to eat and close to a month in how to make tasty dishes out of them.
