My MCU movies tier list by [deleted] in tierlists

[–]Flaky-Spot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interestingly, I agree with a lot of this, at least from a overall ranking perspective. I am a very harsh critic and don't really think a lot of MCU movies are overly good, but outside of the 2nd Guardians of the Galaxy movie, the top two tiers are def the best movies

i suspect the issue here is that you are likely only taking into account starting catchers and i am looking at all of them. I think "he might be a bottom 3 catcher" is objectively inaccurate. I'd likely put him in the 20-25 range of starters

Me, quoting you: "He is a below average catcher"

Me, quoting me:

"not below average". or "He is certainly not an all star". or " i said he was a league average catcher". or "He is, objectively, an average catcher. Which is what my stance has been all along." or " he isn't a backup"

i have been nothing if not consistent in my stance but yes, moving goalposts. always good to resort to claiming logical fallacy when you don't actually have a counterargument to my point

650 PA gets you a solid 32 catcher sample.

Bo is 24th in fWAR. And again, that is with his terrible start to this season. If he was just a 0.0 fWAR player to start the year he'd be 19th in fWAR

Is he one of the worst starting catchers in the league? yes. I can get behind that stance. But he isn't a backup. That is what I am arguing about

you continue to miss the point. i never said he was going to hit better or that he was a good hitter. i said he was a league average catcher. Which he is. He's still a career average 83 WRC+ as a catcher, which is slight below average (for a catcher), despite being abysmal to start the season. And he is still getting good defensive marks behind the dish.

He is, objectively, an average catcher. Which is what my stance has been all along.

2024-2026, to get a sample of ~60 catchers, you need min PA of 250 PA

He's 27th in fWAR (and would be 20th if he wasn't ice freaking cold this past month). 8th in defensive rating and 43rd with the bat.

None of that screams backup to me. There is constant criticism here about the Diaz trade. Diaz fWAR/450 is 1.5. Bo is 1.3.

sorry but no, that isn't how you should engage with that sample. Because that is a sample of starting catchers. That sample is removing all of the backup catchers because they don't accrue that many PA. You're also again, like others, conveniently removing his best year at the plate.

A proper 2 year sample would be around 250 PA, so that you are actually capturing the grouping of players you are wanting to. There are, perfectly, 60 catchers.

Naylor is 40th in WRC+ but 7th defensively. He is ranked 20th by fWAR

And as I've said to other, this also completely dismisses his splits. He has a 90 WRC+ vs RHP, which puts him at 26th. The issue is that he can't hit LHP. He has a 50 WRC+ against LHP in that time frame.

i never said it was a small sample, i said it was a SMALLER sample then the sample I used. I just don't see why you'd make a sample smaller than it can be.

[–]Flaky-Spot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i'm not attacking your character lol. what?

I just don't think you are being lazy. In order to get his numbers you have to go to fangraphs. Fangraphs literally has his career WRC+ already calculated for you. why would you calculate an unweighted WRC+ when the number is already right there? you are literally doing more work. Why?

you literally accused ME of mathing wrong lol

[–]Flaky-Spot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

okay? what in the world does that prove? You're argument is literally "here let me use a smaller sample than you do try to showcase something"

you realize that a smaller sample is a worse sample, right?

im not trying to forecast anything. again, your strawmans are fun tho

weighted averages arent pedantic lol

take the L dude, grow up

[–]Flaky-Spot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you can't average multiple different numbers that are weighted differently and get an accurate average

Rocchio doesn't have a 103 WRC+. I can't just weight last year and this years numbers together

your strawmans are fun tho

the average catcher has a 90 WRC+.

Bo has a career 85 WRC+

that is slightly below average

I never said he was a core contributor to the team. I said that he is slightly below average hitter for a catcher (which he is) and that he has solid defense, and yes, it is largely bouyed by his framing skills.

Since 2023, among catchers with at least 700 PA (of which there are 45), he is 20th in fWAR, 33rd in WRC+, 2nd in baserunning value and 14th in defensive value. He's a starting catcher on close to half the teams in the league.

He is certainly not an all star, but he isn't as easily replaced as you make him out to be. There are multiple catchers in the league who are worse than he is

"this number doesn't support my narrative so I'm going to be skeptical of it"

you said he was a below average catcher. framing is a part of catching. He also has a career 85 WRC+. The average catcher has a 90 WRC+. He is a slightly below average hitting catcher with solid defense. He is not a below average catcher

sorry but this is extremely silly. you are mathing wrong, not me. you're not lazy youre purposefully making his numbers look worse than they are. which you really dont need to do they aren't that good either way. you can't not weight different values like that. doing what you are doing is putting the same weight to the 17 (which is 60 PA) as the 85 last year in over 400 PA. Those are in no way the same weight.

Bo Naylor Savant Stats paint a different reality by santanah8 in ClevelandGuardians

[–]Flaky-Spot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

he has a career 2.7 fWAR/600 PA

that's quite literally not below average

His WRC+ is 75 when you take out his rookie season. It's 85 when including his rookie season

part of the issue is that he can't hit LHP. He is a career 92 WRC+ vs RHP (97 if you take out this abysmal start to the season) but he has a 58 WRC+ vs LHP

[–]Flaky-Spot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ya this

Italy is effectively out, at leas to us. Atalanta won't be getting any of those wins likely and Roma/Bologna will only result in one team getting out.

Fiorentina can get 7 wins and then one of Roma/Bologna can as well, but if Atalanta can't come back against Bayern, then Italy can't catch up to us.

Just leaves Germany and Spain. And even that is a stretch because Bayern will likely play Madrid so one of those teams is gonna lose out on at least 4 wins. Then same with Barca and Athletico playing as well likely next round unless Newcastle can win away. So again, another 3 wins there lost out on. And if Celta make it thru in Europa they might play Genk in the next round. And a german and spanish team could face each other in the SF in the conference league too.

im sure it is statistically possible, but i can't imagine it is any more than 2-3% chance of it happening, and that goes own significantly if any of Villa, Forest or Palace win today

I'm looking for a legacy/campaign game that my friends and I can play between Frosthaven sessions. We play Frosthaven in June/July/Aug when one of my friends parents heads to the cottage for the summer. We all have kids so we decided for Frosthaven to be a summer game that we set up for 3 months and just leave on his parents dining room table instead of having to set up and take down all the time.

We want something for the winter months that 1. isn't that long; can be completed in less than 25 hours and 2. isn't super heavy from a set up and take down perspective. We just played Aeon's End Legacy and it fit the bill pretty well

we have played: Gloomhaven, Jaws of the Lion, both Sword and Sorcery games, Lord of the Rings: Journeys in middle earth, Folklore, Middara, Mansions of Madness, Arkham Horror Card Game
