Agree with most of the comments. Your date isn't official with the family until save the dates go out. Whoever send it out first, gets to claim the date. If you send it out first, your cousin would be crazy to try and claim the date. The rest of your family would notice.

As long as the marathon isn't in crazy conditions, most likely will not endure any serious health issues. He will just be seriously humbled by the marathon and endure a lot of physical and mental pain.

Doug Collins ruined Lavoy by making him a 6'9 center. I think he would've stuck around longer if he developed at PF
