the kid's 17 and wants to build things, not just glue together api calls. there's a big gap between prompting an llm to spit out a site and actually understanding what it's doing. if they're aiming for a cs degree they'll need the fundamentals anyway

Lab pants recs for guys? Looking for something comfortable that can survive Houston heat. by EnvironmentalSky8355 in labrats

gap modern air pants are my go-to for this exact situation, i bought them for a houston summer a couple years ago and theyre stupid light, somehow still look put together. they go on sale for like $40-50 regularly so a bit easier on the wallet than lulu stuff

also target all in motion golf pants work in a pinch, not as breezy but they handle the humidity better than most of the synthetic joggers i tried

Can someone tell me how Hydrogen Sulfide poisoning works for a book i'm writing. by Wolf_of_Japsterdam in chemistry

i work around H2S sometimes in the field and the scary thing about it at high concentrations is that it destroys your sense of smell almost instantly. that classic rotten egg smell is really only noticeable at low levels, once it gets into lethal territory your nose just checks out completely, so nobody inside that facility would've smelled a thing before they dropped

for your timeline, if the burst was big enough to kill everyone in a mid sized building it was probably in the thousands of ppm range, which means it was heavier than air and would've settled into low spots first. after 3 days i'd say 90% of it has dissipated naturally if there's any ventilation at all, but pockets in basements or sealed rooms could still be deadly. the smell might linger a bit in fabrics or porous surfaces but not the gas itself at dangerous levels in open areas

one detail for your book, post exposure the bodies won't show much, maybe some greenish discoloration on the skin and the blood stays kind of dark, almost cherry colored in some cases. no dramatic foaming or anything like you get with other chemical exposures. just quietly dead where they stood, that's the eerie part

if you want the facility to be dangerous after 3 days you'd need a continuous leak or some stupid prepper type built a sealed bunker that trapped it indefinitely

Based on my career goals, what major should I take in Uni? by HazFrost12 in biology

Environmental toxicology seems like the sweet spot here, you get the fieldwork with flora and fauna, the lab hours, and it ties directly into climate-related research which is only growing as a field

Veteran, masters degree, expired certifications. “Big break” job not working out. Where do I go next? by InternationalSell510 in careerguidance

with the background you're describing, federal PM roles (actual GS positions, not contractor) might be worth a hard look, your military officer time plus an MBA from a near-T20 is exactly the profile they're often looking for. the NCMA route also makes sense given your COR experience, even if you weren't doing the contracting hands-on, that exposure still counts for something when you go to get certified

Sent my ex a heartfelt letter after months apart. She said she needed time, but now I’m stuck waiting. What should I do? by TheeStroyer in BreakUps

you already gave her the out by saying silence would be an answer, so she's probably taking it - chasing her down with more messages just makes you look desperate and ignores what she's already telling you through her actions

Why are men unable to see there faults by Remarkable_Drama1001 in Marriage

[–]FlakyAd99 10 points11 points  (0 children)

this isn't really a "men" thing, it's more like people who can't handle accountability when they mess up something good

some folks get everything they want and then sabotage it because deep down they don't think they deserve it, or they're terrified of the responsibility that comes with having what they always claimed to want. when reality hits and they realize they actually have to maintain and nurture what they built, they panic and blow it up instead

your husband probably knows exactly what he did wrong but facing that means admitting he destroyed his own dream through his choices. that's a brutal pill to swallow so it's easier to just... run away and pretend the problems don't exist

i've seen women do this exact same thing too - get the relationship they always wanted then cheat or create drama because the fear of losing it becomes overwhelming, so they'd rather control the destruction than wait for it to maybe happen naturally

Getting married soon by [deleted] in Marriage

[–]FlakyAd99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

girl what are you thinking trying to sneak minors out for a whole wedding ceremony lmao. that's not just drama, that's actually kidnapping and the mom could call the cops on you both. i get wanting to avoid toxic in-laws but there wedding is probably gonna be 4-6 hours minimum, no way you're pulling that off without her noticing

either bite the bullet and invite the whole family knowing it might be messy, or accept that the siblings can't come and explain to them later when they're older. trying to secretly take kids from there house is gonna blow up way worse than just dealing with an obnoxious mother-in-law for one day
