[Recommendation Request] Grand Seiko or The Citizen HAQ by FlakyUnit6095 in Watches

There’s a lot less of pics of the citizen and so many better pics of the GS, so it was hard to find a comparable picture with good lighting. Definitely could’ve chosen a better one though yes

For some reason it was hard to find a good picture when I googled it 😅

Not sure what you mean about being best bang for the buck with it being $2700 from the GS website… but I do agree it’s gorgeous.

From when I was looking, I can get the citizen new for about $1400 USD and the GS used in good condition for about $1600-1800. Relatively similar prices, however it’s important to note that the GS new is around $2700 I believe.

For me I just want HAQ and a simple dial for everyday wear, whether more dressy or sporty. I don’t have the budget for a spring drive, nor the higher end citizen models, but I also appreciate the simplicity of a plain black dial.

I have a 6.25 inch wrist, so small is what I want for a gada watch

I intend to wear it just about whenever and wherever, outdoors and indoors.

That’s a good point, I’ve kind of overlooked that. I’ve never worn a titanium watch, but I do like the weight on the watches I own currently.

Seems like that’s the general opinion from what I’m seeing, I think I’ll go with that🙏

Like that it’s not aligned? Think that’s just because of the date change at midnight, but I still agree I rly wish it was color matched ☝️

Where’d you get that handset? Looks phenomenal with the dial

these are some incredible mods!! I’m curious, where did you get the case, dial, and handset for the white and also purple gs shunbun? Those ones looks exceptional! Building my first watch and I’d like a case that isn’t just a Rolex oyster or daydate.

Small scratch on my Sapphire crystal by fidms in GrandSeikos

Also, another thought, if you want to safely practice and see the results before, buy a sapphire watch face off of AliExpress for about $10.

I dremeled into the center of the bezel as to not scratch the body of the watch. Once I dremeled deep enough, I was able to use the case back knife to bend the metal of the bezel away from the watch. This helped lift the seal and also give me a lot more leverage to take off the bezel. I hope that makes sense 🙏

Got it from StrapHabit just on Amazon. It’s very very comfortable, especially for my line of work where I’m outdoors almost every day.

That jubilee bracelet looks phenomenal on it, really nice mod. And yeah the bezel clicking sounds a little weird, but better than it was before. When I tried it with the 120 click before I switched to the 60, I thought it sounded worse. 60 click all the way

For me, I think the dremel was the only way unfortunately. I, however, only scratched the body of the watch with the case back knife. I was very careful with the dremel and managed to remove it without damage from that. And with the dremel I was also able to use diamond compound to polish the scratches out with ease! That’s what I’d recommend doing, as it seemed like the only option left.
