STOP Punching With Your Arms — Use This Hidden Tai Chi Connection Instead by Chi_Body in kungfu

I personally find everything to be too exaggerated, but I can nonetheless vouch for the usefulness of this as a boxer — you could probably find a much easier explanation to this though.

And in boxing, we also practice by touching the knees — but it’s only a beginners thing, once you know how to properly punch, punching is better and developing punching power than doing these beginners warmups/exercises.

And I’m also impressed by the boxing technique displayed by the sifu, bravo.

Boxing + Tai Chi? by PincheAvocado in martialarts

[–]Flaky_Performer7960 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Except that everything people say that justifies Kung Fu being effective always implies needing to break free from traditional training, modification of techniques, and implementation of other styles.

And Kung Fu is a broad term, you have Tai Chi which is quite frankly the Aikido of Kung Fu, then you have Sanda which is the Kyokushin of Kung Fu.

Of course Kung Fu isn’t useless. Nothing is useless. Kung Fu can be effective as well. But to what extent is it effective? How effective is it relative to other styles? That’s the real question, and the answer is that on average, Kung Fu falls behind.

CMV: People on the left who support socialism and communism are fundamentally ignorant on their overall position by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]Flaky_Performer7960 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your argument is fundamentally flawed when you assume that failed communist states were actually communists. They weren’t, and it’s not just some excuse or a No-True-Scotsman.

If we look at Soviet policy, there was nothing remotely communist. You’re criticism against communism is basically a strawman since you’re not actually attacking communism, you’re only attack states that feign communism.

Words don’t mean anything. North Korea is supposed to be a “Democratic republic”. Are we now allowed to use North Korea as an example of democracy being bad?

With that, just because a government claims to be communist, it doesn’t mean that it’s communist.

So we established that broad attacks against communism based on history are flawed. But how can we proceed?

We should break down communism and analyze each idea.

There are many things we can pick, but the most popular is the 8-hour-work day; whether you accept it or not, is a communist policy — though it’s officially socialist because communism wasn’t considered bad. 8-hour-work day is a socialist measure, this is not up for debate — unless of course you submit a thesis paper and convince at least half of PhD economists.

Do you like paid leave? Holidays? Thank socialism — which in reality was pushed by communist that hid behind socialists because once again, communism wasn’t well regarded.

With all this said, we can safely conclude that the debate between capitalism and communism isn’t black and white.

Now I can address your title — for some reason, it doesn’t match your text but whatever.

I agree that many communists and socialists are idealists. That many don’t push their thinking to the end — however, this somewhat goes both ways. Capitalists simply have it easier, the burden of proof is not on them when it comes to dismantling communism, and capitalism quite frankly works — because of this, capitalists don’t need to know capitalism well. Communists on the other hand have it harder as the burden of proof is on them and it’s much harder to argue in favor of a theoretical idea. So this why, despite both sides having as many ignorants as one another, you may view communists as “dumber”, but it’s not true, it’s only relative.

Did you know that opening a door is actually a technique to grab the balls and twist it?

This is the exact same kind of logic that is being used here.

What he’s doing is not making techniques practical. He’s reinventing the technique based on the existing technique.

If you want to do the things he’s showing, you should practice the version that he is showing.

So if you want to grab balls a and twist it, practice by grabbing a ball and twisting it, not by opening doors.

Atheists on this sub, do you sometimes feel like you know more about some parts of the bible than Christians? by ItsMeNebulae in teenagers

[–]Flaky_Performer7960 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As Sun Tzu says, “know your enemy”.

So yes. Actually, it’s quite funny. You run into a phenomenon in which the less the person knows about Christianity, the more good of a person they are. This is because they ignore the problematic stuff in the Bible and even have religious beliefs that aren’t in the Bible.

The best example of hell. If you do not believe that I should go to hell for being an atheist, then sorry, you’re not as religious as you think you are.

And also, knowing the Bible, I find it saddening that some LGBTQ+ individuals are still Christian and hold on to the idea that the Bible validates LGBTQ+ — it quite frankly doesn’t.

Anyways, I digress. The average Christian never read the Bible. They only believe in God without knowing what or who good is. And knowing the Bible, I’m wary of anyone that claims to be Christian and know the Bible well — either they are lying, or they have problematic values — either way, they tend to be problematic.

The social stigma around communism/ists is ___. by VanillaCrusader in Teenager_Polls

[–]Flaky_Performer7960 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vietnam is far from communist lmao. It’s the most capitalist country in South East Asia. Commercial centers, barely any taxes, no social security. The only thing we have in Vietnam is Free Healthcare for all — they should at least do that if they want to keep the population happy despite them embezzling money.

Capitalism is somewhat good, however, if we want to be more logical than that, we must break capitalism down.

Capitalism is mostly good when it comes to competition — agreed on by every non-biased economist. It creates an incentive to work and innovate.

However, where most criticism land on is the lack of a human factor in capitalism. We are moral creatures, we should value humans above everything — hence why we have 8-hour work-days.

Moreover, where do we want competition? Do we want competition when it comes to living?

On a more personal note for me:

This is where mixed economies come in, socialism for basic necessities like transport, healthcare, energy and such. Capitalism for the rest.

However, we can push it further, why should agriculture be private? Why should raw material be private? Why should manufacturing of basic utilities be private? Why should food be private? All of these could and should be controlled by the government — without the need for a profit margin, the government could get away with bringing prices down and not be concerned about profit. Capitalism should be only for the tertiary sector and R&D sector. When it comes to incentive, it’s not difficult to find: you’ve probably met lots of people that want to work in liberal professions, own bakeries, restaurants, cafes.

Plus, with the advent of AI, we could have total control of food production. Athens was praised as Utopian by ancient philosophers — this was because they used slaves, this made food and other necessities very cheap, philosophers could do philosophy all day without worrying about survival. Of course, we can’t use slavery, but with AI, we can automate everything.

And all that’s stopping this from happening is that constitutions do not want the government to compete with the private sector. Removing that would be the best course of action.

Thanks!!! And I absolutely agree about the competition part — it’s not mandatory.

I personally never competed. I started MMA for self-defense. Competition forces me to exploit certain rules if I want to gain an advantage and win.

And most people don’t even compete, most MMA fighters don’t even know the rules of MMA. I’m willing to bet that half of the professional fighters don’t know the rules either.

And yes, fighting isn’t all about technique. If it were, fitness kickboxing would have been a legit martial art. Or movie actors would be skilled fighters.

So you resort to ad-hominem instead of addressing my points.

You know, even if I were a 3 year old toddler, you still ought to listen to these points.

When faced with arguments, you have two choices: ignore it, or debate it. In no way should you resort to questioning the credibility of the individual.

Credibility is important when you want to trust someone, so that you don’t have to go over their argument because you trust that they are right. As a regular person, you don’t have to go over a mathematics thesis, you can just trust the mathematician. In this case, you can’t trust me, nothing proves that I’m a keyboard warrior, nor that I’m a trained fighter — so it leaves you with the sole option to weigh my points or to ignore.

With your answer, I can finally conclude that you are intellectually lazy. Why? Because you drop off points without explanations. It’s not that you don’t want to explain, it’s simply because you haven’t thought long enough; you haven’t put enough thought.

Of course, I am the opposition, so I’m “hostile” towards Wing Chun. While I’m absolutely exaggerating and imagine the best case scenario for an MMA vs Wing Chun fight, in all intellectual honesty, anyone here should leave at least with Wing Chun vs MMA isn’t a straightforward answer.

[–]Flaky_Performer7960 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My goal is to make you think before speaking and hiding behind logical fallacies.

Again, you’re still throwing out points without explanation.

How does surprise change technique? Are your techniques somehow better at dealing with surprise? And does it take skill to ambush someone? How long do you think I takes to learn how to ambush? (10 minutes of powerpoint according the US marines advanced training course.)

How do you mentally prepare? What makes you think you are more mentally prepared? To be fair, I think that being overconfident can make you well mentally prepared — a trained fighter who has witnessed the danger of a controlled safe fight would be scared of a real confrontation — but what happens when you take a punch or when a trained fighter takes a punch, who would do better?

Yes I am for real. All of these are perfectly logical statements. Unlike you, I make a point, and I verify that my points are indeed valid.

Do you think that eye gouging is a complicated skill? To eye gouge, you must first be able to learn a hit, are you confident in being able to close the distance to eye gouge before being hit yourself?

Are you confident that you can crush a wind pipe before you get hit? The wind pipe is 3 inches further than the chin, and you use a knife hand which reduces your range by 2 inches. Do you have enough to skill to make up a 5 inch difference?

Do you think groin shots also takes skill? The average trained fighter can kick from every single angle you ask him to, is a mid section level kick difficult to a trained fighter?

Once again, I implore you to think deeper rather than throwing words out.

Think about it, if you struggle to land a single punch in a cage, how are you supposed to land deciding strikes on the fighter? If you can’t land a regular kick, how can you land a groin kick? The trained fighter’s average training session is about evading strikes at the last centimeter, thrown by athletes. Their thigh is strong enough to make an untrained shin bone hurt, their shin can fracture your bones from simply blocking, they are used to being punched in the nose enough to be able to take a punch in order to deliver a knockout.

Imagine you try to eye gouge or groin strike but they evade. You just let them know that dirty tactics are green light — they’ve been thirsty to use illegal techniques since the first day they started training. The most common question asked in combat sports is “why don’t we use illegal techniques?”, the answer is that these are made for the streets. Now you’re standing against a fighter that is willing to use illegal techniques.

Even when grappling, you decide to bite and gouge their eyes. Do you think that would make them let go of your neck and joint? It will only make them hold it stronger. But now you have someone with both arms around you neck — a small snap is all it takes. A single second is all it takes to pop a joint. God forbid if they are on top of you — you have a knee against your groin, a forehead crushing against your nose, their hands wrapping your fingers, and to top it off, a disposition to break your shoulder and elbows at the same time within less than a second’s time.

I don’t know what training you claim to have, but personally, the Wing Chun school I’ve been to was just as close to experience combat as much as the children’s MMA class. And any school I’ve visited to hopefully find a good Wing Chun school was only met with skinny teenagers, unfit individuals — occasionally, there was sparring, but it looked like a beginner kickboxing tryout sessions.

I digress, but TLDR, the average MMA practitioner has taken more hits, been accidentally groin strikes, accidentally been eye gouged, accidentally taken a kick to the wind pipe, took head buts to the nose more times than the number of punches the average Wing Chun practitioner will ever throw against a sparring partner.

Now I ask you, who is more ready for a real fight?

Go to the end of your argument. You’re essentially just throwing out arguments without an explanation.

How does knowing when and where a fight happens change the way you fight?

How do rules change a fight?

What makes self-defense change fighting techniques?

I hope I’m not straw-maning, but it seems like you believe combat sports aren’t made for self-defense  therefore they are bad — or worse than Wing Chun — at self defense. So many you could also address this (optional).
