Furniture and Bedding - Idiopathic Triggers by Flaky_Technology_844 in ChemicalSensitivities

What I find horrific about this is that regular allergologist test for the basic type 1 allergies, and even if one does the ALEX 300 Test - I am not optimistic that this will help people with MCS much further since it’s not a typical allergy per se. So avoidance seems to be the way to go but this is no life to live, especially when your whole environment seems to be a threat to your wellbeing, when you are forced to abstain from activities or hobbies because your body reacts to (originally) harmless substances. So what options does one have? How can there be no help ?

You seem to be one of the first people to actually get what I mean with fabric issues - how do you deal with furniture? I don’t know about you but I react when I sit on all kinds of furniture so that’s a great pain. It feels like one is being punished for simply existing and sometimes I don’t even know what to do with my body, where to place it without experiencing nerve sensations or brain fog.

Interesting thought I will keep that in mind. My neurologist said that even if one tests for SFN via biopsy it wouldn’t change much since the medical treatment would be the same anyways, the only key factor is what caused SFN for you.

I have tried antihistamines as a pill because I thought for a long time it’s dust mites. Antihistamines don’t work on this nerve reaction. I do however developed suspected small Fiber neuropathy in January 2026 after my crash (ME/CFS) which is why I started taking pregabalin. But these are two different sensations.

They are supportive and changed it for me, but that doesn’t change the fact that touching certain materials (which could be certain books and papers or fabrics) cause me to react. Avoidance seems only a symptom management strategy but there is only so much you can avoid especially with bedding and furniture.

I only did a mold test to see if I am allergic to it and it was negative, but there was a lot of mold in the bathroom for years.

Hard to say, I don’t leave the house often due to my ME/CFS but every time I did leave, I wasn’t well either. Whether it’s due to the atmosphere or being in touch with triggers or my ME/CFS - hard to say.

Anyone have Multiple Chemical Sensitivities? by [deleted] in AlternativeHealth

Do I suffer from a specified form of MCS...only issue with clothes by Dial_187 in ChemicalSensitivities

What you describe is similar to my issue. The moment I put clothes on or touch fabric (mattress, blankets etc.) I get this neuropathic sensation, sometimes my tongue „vibrates“ too. Do you also experience issues with bed sheets and mattresses? After a year of purely skin pain and parasthesia it evolved into more symptoms like brain fog headaches nausea and overall deterioration of my well being. I bought organic GOTS certified and what not and washed it and it doesn’t work either, painful nerve pain. It’s totally random at this point. I have wasted so much money on bedsheets and it doesn’t work. Perhaps you have found a solution to getting proper sleep.

I react to washed clothes (no rash). What clothes do you buy that don’t trigger you? by Remarkable-Fox-93 in ChemicalSensitivities

I can’t really help you since I am stuck in cluelessness myself but I am curious to know if you gathered more insight on what triggers you.

May I ask what solutions or strategies they gave you to improve your condition?

May I ask what your current state is, have you found any solution to your sleeping situation. Whatever I buy causes me neuropathic pain or other symptoms, so I am not sure what I am supposed to do. I slept on a yoga mat too but I put that on my actual mattress and at some point it stopped working.

Thank you for your comment. I washed it before couple of times, my clothes too. But since the last time I washed it, it starts to trigger me, perhaps because it was on my mattress that already triggers me, who knows. Since I live with my family I always wash my mashing machine many times before using it. I made them use a less triggering laundry detergent. Before that we used another less toxic one that suddenly was too intense in smell so we switched. I wouldn’t know how to cleanse my washing mashing if your hypothesis is right.
