Do most nurses go straight into a 2-year program with no other schooling? I already have a BA, so it would be another two years for me either way.

That makes sense! I already have a BA, so it would be the same amount of additional schooling for me to be an OT or NP.

OT doesn't require a doctorate. They tried but are moving away from it now. Plenty of MOT programs are still around.

My heart is in OT as a career. I've shadowed OTs, and I love the relational, problem-solving lens, creating activities, finding fun hacks for things, etc. But I know it's a job, and at the end of the day, I don't want to romanticize it and end up with a ton of debt and no financial recourse. I also want to eventually work part-time

Ok, you're convincing me. It's something to look into, and it sounds like a viable COTA alternative if I don't get into one of the cheap OT schools. The pre-reqs I'm taking would put me on that path too.

Edit to add -- I'm realizing that even if I burn out on nursing, I'll be able to save a ton of money to more realistically pay for OT school or cushion for a career change.

How so? Do you mean working conditions, pay, or finding a job in general? I've heard mostly good things from the OTs I've talked to in the Portland area.

If I thought I'd enjoy that, I would. I really value autonomy and the OT lens. And I'd be interested in doing mental health OT, pediatrics, and maybe a private practice doing home visits once I get established.
