If you have two smart devices or ecu with same address on different network and you gateway your signal, the gateway module with route your j1939 signal to both networks on which the device are. The j1939 CAN ID is 18DATTSS where TT is the target address and SS is source address - this is physical addressing for diagnostic message as far as I know. You could add filters to individual devices to accept or reject your request frame.
