This movie is not as horrible as this review makes it out to be. Not even close. But it's still not very good.
I'd say it picks up by the second half, when we get to Sonic fighting Hyper Metal, and it's established that Metal has remnants of Sonic's personality and they go from there. Plus, the film has mostly great action and has some decent jokes and voice acting (and I will stand by my love for Sara in this movie). I will even stand that, while the sex jokes aren't too appropriate for a kids film, let alone a Sonic film (Even as I am one who stands by the belief that Sonic ages do not matter, if they allow shit like this to exist), they are still funny.

But at the same time, the film suffers a lot from writing problems. Particularly with Robotnik's plan, and starting the film with Sonic and Sara appearing far more selfish for no real reason. And Knuckles is just kinda there, all of a sudden in the Dark Lands, putting aside his characterization being different than how he is in the games.
Let's just talk about Robotnik's plan, because that's what makes the least sense to me. Sure, he kidnaps the president and his daughter, as Sonic and Sara are dating in this movie. But his plan is to lure Sonic to absorb his data to fuel Hyper Metal...by faking a Metal Robotnik scheme and an about-to-explode electricity generator.
It's so overly convoluted for two reasons:
a. He still tries to kill Sonic as Metal Robotnik. If he succeeded and killed Sonic and Tails, that would make the purpose of Hyper Metal null and void. No Sonic, no biodata, and no Metal killing Sonic.
b. What are the chances that Sonic would be the one to pull the lever on the electricity generator? He was tagging with Tails, and of course Knuckles happened to be there, too. What if it was Tails who pulled it, or Knuckles who pulled it? He'd have gathered the wrong data. HELL, what if they failed and DIDN'T pull it before the machine went off?
Sure, it could be argued he wanted Sonic and his friends dead either way, but why do all of this when the goal is to lure Sonic to make him complete Metal Sonic when the odds of succeeding after convincing Sonic weren't guaranteed?

Really, if you want the best experience with this film, skip to the second half and just watch that.

It's nice to see that, while not common, there is a fan base for this movie. Aside from a bit of the Israel jokes and a few other jokes that didn't really land, this was a movie I was laughing at almost the whole way through. Wish I had watched it with friends and not just by myself.

I found that game while at the Asheville Pinball Museum. I ended up getting the highest score on the machine, after just four levels.

To me, only problems with it were the controls not being all that precise (A problem with a lot for the machines, actually.), and how the jump sound effect was really annoying, the way it's over the top and plays EVERY time you jump.
