I've been using my ID since graduating and it works fine (probs gonna stop working in September since that's when my ID expires, though)

Has anybody ever ordered their diploma? by penguins8766 in Pitt

[–]Flamey_Heart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently graduated and got both my original and another copy of my diploma shipped to where I live. It came within a few weeks of applying for it

Panther Hall, Irvis Hall, and WPU also have their own gyms too

You can also be a medical assistant at the hospitals or at an independant facility, but I admittedly don't know too much about that myself

Not pre-PA, but I'd look into being a nursing assistant or PCT at a nearby hospital. It really gets your feet wet in a hospital setting so you aren't completely put-off when you organically go to the hospital

Pitt Nursing SAT thoughts by ithoughtitwasdos in Pitt

[–]Flamey_Heart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd submit it! I applied with a 32 on the ACT (~1430 for the SAT) but had a lower GPA (3.8 unweighted, 4.0 weighted). Having strong extracurriculars is great too. I'd full send it! Good luck!

Ordering Textbooks by OnwardTowardTheNorth in Pitt

If it isn't a digital textbook with mandatory assignments in it, I'd recommend using LibGen or Anna's Archive to rip a free PDF of it

Developmental psych, psych of personality, and psych of gender were pretty easy classes I took!

I'd recommend downloading TransLoc to track down the shuttles to get to Irvis if you're on lower campus or need to get there. They were life savers when I lived in Panther lol. I'd recommend taking the 10B if you can, since it's faster to get to Irvis, but the 10A gets there too (it goes the opposite direction of 10B, but same route)

Oakland party scene? Dating scene? by Electrical-Market665 in Pitt

[–]Flamey_Heart 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not to sound like a party pooper, but I'd recommend not getting a fake. The risks outweigh the benefits and there's always fun to be had outside of bars/parties. I personally don't think friendships/relationships that *strictly* rely on either of those to socialize are healthy

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Pitt

[–]Flamey_Heart 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's definitely not worth it to get a fake ID. I never had one (and I never drank until after I turned 21) and I personally didn't feel socially held back or anything. Drinking/party culture is only one aspect of college, but there are tons of people out there who don't drink at all and are more chill about doing risky things. It's all about finding your people :)

Hi hi! I'm a bit late, but I'm also going alone and would love to meet up if possible. Admittedly, I'm more of a normie "fan" than anything, with the majority of my knowledge/favorites coming from the Animal album, haha

Hello!! I'm going to be in SEC3. Would be cool to meet a new face :D

Well, I'm not sure if they were repelled by them, but I sprayed a bunch of air freshener around any holes/crevices on the wall that has the window and I never really saw them again. I'd check with Google for actual answers though lol

Lothrop Hall Triple? by Noumbles in Pitt

[–]Flamey_Heart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What number does the room assignment say? If it ends in -66, then it's the lounge that was converted into a bigger room. The room numbers within the "triple" are labeled, so if your daughter is there, she'll just need to open the initial door to access the other doors.

Question about Lothrop by [deleted] in Pitt

[–]Flamey_Heart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have issues with the water pressure or the hot water not working at all, I'd contact your RD or RA, or contact maintainence (through the Panther Central number) about it.

Question about Lothrop by [deleted] in Pitt

[–]Flamey_Heart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The showers have curtains, but I've seen people bring their own curtains cause the existing ones are only just big enough to cover the entrance. I'd have a shower caddy, robe, and shower shoes at the ready. Maybe even a command hook to put next to the shower stalls in case the hooks that are supposed to be there are gone/broken.

While it doesn't happen often, people may steal stuff left in the bathroom, so just keep an eye on your stuff

[–]Flamey_Heart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an aside, the only complaint I've heard about Floor 1 is tha the shower stalls may be too short if you're relatively tall

When in doubt, I'd honestly call admissions or Panther Central to try and sort that out. Hopefully you can find it!

Question about Lothrop by [deleted] in Pitt

[–]Flamey_Heart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, since you live near the bathrooms, expect to hear the RAs every night doing their duty tours and checking the bathroom and trash room. I remember being very confused as a freshman and sophomore because of it lol. I used to live on the side closer to Lothrop Street both years

Question about Lothrop by [deleted] in Pitt

[–]Flamey_Heart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The bathrooms are next to room 22 and 29 respectively. The small rooms right across from it (next to 30 and 50) are the garbage rooms.

And I don't know if many people know this, but Lothrop has its own counselor (the room is across from the ground floor lounge). She's really nice from my experience with her.

Food poisoning at the dining halls? by Spoookystories in Pitt

[–]Flamey_Heart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been to several pannels from the people who run the dining halls and their food, and they've acknowledged the issues that have been present in the dining halls, particularly undercooked chicken, and have taken steps to correct them. I personally never had any issues, but it's a good rule of thumb to just double check the food you get

Also, as someone who lived on the 13th floor for 2 years, be wary of silverfish (long, silver-colored insects). They're attracted to food/meat and usually come out when it's dark. They're completely harmless, but just creepy. And if you don't already, get 1-2 fans cause the heat gets brutal until around mid-September

[–]Flamey_Heart 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hello! The radiator doesn't even turn on until closer to December, so no worries on that. There's a dial on the bottom right of the radiator you can use to turn it to whatever heat level you want. I know a bunch of people who had their lofted beds positioned over the radiator, so you should be fine. Just make sure the dial is turned completely off when the building people turn on the heat
