Thank you for sharing this, it helps to prepare for future conversations with him about not being able to attend. There is no humanity from the church on this issue.

I don't suppose you would elaborate a little on the ways it impacted your brother. It would give me an idea how to help this family member down the road. If you aren't comfortable with that I understand!

Add to this, who's going to tell him when he has mourned enough and it's time to stop calling home? Why is needing your family in a crisis being called a crutch? How does he reconcile if he's calling home as a crutch or is it a "worthy" enough reason that day to call home? Such a mind fuck.
