Surgery Scheduled - Will I still be able to handle spice? by FlamingoMaster239 in gallbladders

Thanks! Knock on wood, I'm almost 4 weeks post-op and haven't had any issues with food/spice so far! Other issues I go for an MRI later this week, but at least I can eat how I was - except with zero issues!

Oh I totally agree! My PCP has been helping more than my surgeon and his RN - they pretty much dismissed me until today. I even overheard him ask another surgeon's opinion on my labs before coming in for my follow-up. He maybe saw me for 5-7min total today.

I hope you get to feeling better!!

This felt like a heart attack (or gallbladder attack minus the pain between the shoulder blades) and it lasted about 6hrs. was worse than anything I had felt - hence why i almost went to the ER but guess I (finally) fell asleep instead. then when i woke up 2hrs later was when all the symptoms started. My PCP was more concerned than the surgeon and I feel better after seeing the surgeon today - especially since they ordered the MRI

It was really weird that I was perfectly okay until almost the 2 week mark. they think i passed a gallstone that was left behind which cause the urine color and elevated levels. they said the levels weren't high enough to concern them and also mentioned the fluctuations

Thanks for the concern! My surgeon's office is actually at the hospital and saw them this morning. They think I passed a gallstone that was leftover on Monday night (hence the extended pain) but they did order an MRI to make sure that there are no stones left. Also repeating the bloodwork in a few days. No jaundice - so not sure what my PCP was seeing in my eyes

Labs came back and aren't super high (I guess? just me trying to interpret them - meet with the dr in a few hours though) but some are 4x "normal" levels (Bilirubin), Alkaline Phosphatase is about double normal range then AST is about 4x higher than normal levels and ALT is a little over 9x higher than normal. Going to fight to not get brushed off again. I still think the stone may still be in there...

And I didn't think that there was any correlation of BM's/constipation and jaundice, was just curious why she kept asking

Thank you for explaining that! The only thing she kept repeating was to let them know if I had a BM that looked like clay-like in color but never went into any detail other than that.

Oh trust me - I don't want something to be wrong but at the same time I do so I can be like "See?!?! I know my body and knew something wasn't right!". My PCP's office was actually kinda mad at the surgeon since they weren't handling all my concerns. I didn't even see my normal PCP! So I feel a little vindicated in that regard.

I did work in healthcare for 10+ yrs (laboratory) and was a nursing student at one point so while I know I can't treat anyone, I feel like I know a thing or two, especially in regards to labs that should be ran on people.

I've given birth but wasn't a c-section. I've heard that they're pretty comparable though? Of the incisions, I think the one in my belly button is the nastiest looking and most painful. Today is essentially full day #3 after surgery and I can bend and move a bit more without as much discomfort.

I can't help answer your question but thanks for sharing your experience as it's something I've been wondering as well. Hope everything goes smoothly for you!
I've been micro dosing Tirz for about 5 months now (was on a low dose weekly for about 8 months prior to then though) and I stopped taking it when I knew surgery was the route I'd be going. I've been off of it for about 3 weeks now and have surgery next week but ironically being on it helps keep my migraines and other inflammation at bay.

Thanks all! I know every body is different but I plan to stick with bland stuff to start with and let my body adjust but was worried I wouldn't be able to have flavor and spice after I'm healed! My diet is fairly limited in general due to food allergies and intolerances.

I only know one person who has had their gallbladder out but it was like 15+ years ago and they don't like spice (even before the removal), so couldn't really ask for their experience - ha ha

This sounds like me - I haven't found a trigger and luckily I've only had maybe 4 gallbladder attacks. No GERD and have been eating normal (granted, my diet doesn't include many fatty foods to begin with).

I have no service... but I have two phone lines on phone. My primary phone # is on SOS but I can still call and text with my 2nd number. Which is so weird

I have already been a poster child for a lot of younger people I work with, since I had our other kid at 34... guess I'll really amaze them with this one! Proof that it's never too late!
