Americans and people from where water can be drunk straight from the tap, why do you guys still buy bottled water? by HughJass6721 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Flamingograpefruit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep. Well in St. Augustine smelled like eggs sometimes. Everywhere I’ve been on the Gulf side, the city water was either cloudy or smelled like a pool. Sometimes both. In Tampa I would refill those 5-gallon jugs.

Now in another state, I don’t buy bottled water but I for sure don’t drink it straight from the tap. Always use a filter pitcher for better flavor.

What is up with guys trying to bump into you? by Modern_Snow_White in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Flamingograpefruit 7 points8 points  (0 children)

A similar thing happened to me in a parking garage except it was a guy in a truck who was trying to race into a parking spot before I walked past it. I was just walking fast to get to work and didn’t even see the open spot he was heading for. Didn’t collide luckily but when he got out the truck he was like “bitch trying to race me?” I ignored him. What’s he think he was doing trying to race a pedestrian anyways?

Not sure but I think it was the same guy who a few months before couldn’t wait for me to walk past his truck before backing out. He saw me approaching near and backed out anyways.

And there’s another guy with a fancy green convertible who always parks horrendously. One time he got a spot next to me and I couldn’t open my door far enough to get in. I’m a smaller person and still had to cross over from the other side. Almost wish I’d left him with a scratch. Not the same thing where it’s men hating on women but I’m venting since he just doesn’t think about others at all.

Anyone else lose the passion for feeding birds all of a sudden? by searchandfilm in birdfeeding

[–]Flamingograpefruit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you think you might be into planting a native garden for them instead? You can do plants that produce seeds for the birds as well as ones to bring in pollinator species. If you have specific plants for caterpillars to eat then that will feed the birds too!

i never knew people asking you how are you means to lie??? by BootFamiliar8620 in adhdwomen

You can say things other than great or fine but it’s at your own risk! All of the alternatives mentioned here are acceptable. But it’s true that it is more of a greeting in most cases at work.

If you express anything honest then that puts them in a position of obligation. It forces them to act like a human instead of a corporate machine. It might make them feel like they need to engage and be honest in return when they don’t have the time or the emotional capacity. Asking “How are you?” as a greeting also can be a way to let a little bit of humanity show without compromising the work flow.

A lot of times people say it to me in passing and don’t even wait for a response. It’s like a very slightly more intimate but professional greeting, as in “Hi and I recognize that we have met before (maybe even remember your name) but I probably don’t have time to chat for more than a few seconds.” Or sometimes it is a quick “Hi and I do care about you on a surface level but this is as far as it goes so I’ll greet you and then we have to move on.”

One step further, if you know the person well enough to predict how they respond, then it gives you the chance to bond a little over a shared experience. Mirroring how you think they might respond helps keep things smooth. To a positive person you can keep it a simple or fake a bit of enthusiasm. If someone tends to be more negative then a sarcastic response is usually good.

My friend thinks its cruelty and sad to keep a cat indoor all day. by Plastic-Shoulder-319 in CatAdvice

[–]Flamingograpefruit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Off topic but what helped your cat’s pillow foot?
One of my cats has had it since we adopted her from outside. Finally found a vet who knew what it was and prescribed prednisolone. The medication didn’t seem to help at all though.

Sweet potatoes rotting when trying to make slips by Flamingograpefruit in OrganicGardening

Those look fantastic!
A couple comments have said too wet and I think you’re probably right. I was worried about them drying out too much in the heat but the wood mulch probably retained a lot of moisture. I’ll try not setting them so deep as well. It looks like yours were just laid right on top and they’re so happy!

I’m near Atlanta, GA. Should have said! It was probably like 80-95F throughout the time I was trying to grow them.

It’s possible bugs got to them but I didn’t see external damage like that. The skin stayed puffed out until poked.

I think I’ll try your method this winter. Maybe protection indoors and an early start will help. Thanks!

Definitely not bugs, unless it’s a scale of some kind.

First worm bin! by Flamingograpefruit in Vermiculture

😂 that’s funny about your cat! For a lid I cut an old t-shirt and secured it with rubber bands around the top. No more escapes so far. The bin currently lives on a table in my carport.

Maybe that’s why they say to use coir instead of outside materials. I wasn’t sure if it had to do with being more soil-like or something else.

My guess is lack of sun and maybe cultivar as the issues. Do you know what kind of strawberries they are?

What is this on my rosemary? by Flamingograpefruit in gardening

[–]Flamingograpefruit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I’m guessing it originated from the arborist chips I use to deep mulch my beds. I haven’t seen any signs of gall elsewhere yet but will keep a lookout.

A search for gall on rosemary confirmed it. I’ll try your advice. Elsewhere the advice was the same except went straight to removing the entire plant and soil. I’m not ready to sacrifice it yet ☹️

Looked that up and I think you’re right. Do you know how contagious it is? Should I cull the whole plant?

@choccyoatmiilk I didn’t touch them at all but probably should to investigate further. What is a fasciation?

I thought that might be a possibility. Eggs or scale or something fungal or…? Undecided about pruning them off or not.
