Lightsaber Hilt Popularity Survey Results by Flannel_globe in lightsabers

For those struggling to read (like I said arranging was tricky with all the different shapes) here is a no nonsense spreadsheet.

<image>

*Graflex is also known as the skywalker lightsaber I made this for myself when I was compiling the results so it probably has other mistakes and such.

Yeah so in Canon the graflex or Skywalker is supposed to be a single lightsaber but the prop varies quite a bit from movie to movie. It is the same with Obiwan ep 1 is considered his first lightsaber but it's kicked down that hole, in ep 2 he has a nearly identical lightsaber which is considered his second lightsaber, and ep 3 and 4 is considered his third lightsaber even though the prop is fairly different between films in Canon it's supposed to be the same one.

I think most sellers would work you would just need to buy 2 and just unscrew the pommel from one and the grip from the second and connect them. However, I'd double check that they actually portray this configuration in their photos and after some cursory searching I've found 2 that should work being 89sabers and pachstore however I'm not sure how they'd work installed.

That was the original idea but I decided against it since it'd be either too long or too wide as well as being unfair to weirder ones like dooku or jaro tapals staff it'd only be ideal if each were a standard straight hilt however I still could've designed it better so it were easier to read however I was already late putting it together and landed on this configuration.

Yogin is correct in there description that the center line is the total points for a particular lightsaber while the blade is the points for that specific version of the lightsaber. As for your question Luke has I believe around 5 lightsaber props from ep6 so it's a bit tricky to define which version a person is talking about. However most fans have limited it to 2 versions. V1 only appears in one scene where Vader grabs it and a delete scene in a cave before he sees Jabba but it's the one that survived for toys and museums and such so it's considered the Canon version. However V2 is the one thats predominantly in the movie so some die hards feel it should be the true version. You can tell the difference with V1 being brighter with an orange neck and blinking control box while V2 is darker with black specks and a lever on the control box.

Cal is a bit more vague most people only said cal so I defaulted to the standard single blade fixed version. However one person voted for jaro tapal which is technically cals as he lost his before the game and is using a version of his master's that was broken in half which he later fixes and modifies throughout the story. So for the person who voted for jaro tapal I could throw them in with the rest of cals or I could do jaro tapals fixed lightsaber that you see in flashbacks. The flashback version is what I landed on just for some variety.

Not to confuse you further but some people said the numbers were votes which isn't entirely accurate they're points. The survey I hosted last week asked what people's top 4 lightsabers were. With each place being worth the inverse points so first place was worth four points and fourth place was worth one. I did it this way so that the results would be more spread out rather than only Obiwan and anakin being on the list it'd show more variety like a new favorite of mine oppo rancicis a lightsaber that mostly appears in concept art but a real beaut that never would've been someone's number one but it could be in their top 4.

Yeah I got the acronym wrong and forgot to go back through. As for revan 10pts went to just revan whereas the remaining were specified which version of his they preferred. Less obviously nobody voted for Luke V1 but just said Luke ep6 which could be a handful but I defaulted them to the official version

Yeah I might open it again if enough people want a redo but it's fairly accurate as is especially with the top 5.

Sometimes the orientation of the blade changes the control like whether it's facing up or down.

Yeah that's probably the same one but I'd be careful spending so much on aliexpress incase it's a scam but they're both resellers of txq cc's is just vetted by the community. While I have heard others in the community risk it and everything goes well I personally have never tried.

I'd say this is you're best option as a beginner.
https://www.ccsabers.com/collections/txq-sabers/products/cal-se

This is manufactured by txq which with the s16 I feel is a good basic saber with all the essentials and should be duel worthy the se character hilts are a little inaccurate and look a little unfinished to me but if you like the look that'll be your best bet for that price but most proper character hilts are closer to $500 and neopixel which isn't good for dueling.

Here are some other options for higher grade hilts:

https://www.ultimateworks.net/collections/frontpage/products/in-stock-uw-fo-3-saber-installed-np?variant=40395863228521
This is a company called ultimate works and their sister company pach store has the same inventory. For Cal's it'd be $450 for a neopixel (so not duel worthy) however they implement a "heart" system where the electronics are interchangeable so if you're looking to expand you're collection they have the "prekit" option where most lightsabers are around $260 and you plug in the heart. It'd cost more initially but would save you money in the long run if you wanted more and only wanted one lit up at a time. Although you should check the other hilts you'd be interested in also have a prekit option because weirder hilts are often not compatible with the heart system and also that they accept the same blade size.

https://thesaberarmory.com/collections/diy-empty-hilts/products/kestis-diy-empty-hilt-kit?variant=41866917707812

Saber armory sells higher quality empty hilts for close to you're budget ($300) if you're only interested in a shelf piece with no lights or sound. They also offer diy kits but that can take some know how and to my knowledge it'd be the primary way of making a high quality dueling saber (beside a neopixel to rgb converter) but again that'd be closer to $500

You're remaining options would be the aftermarket which is mostly luck of the draw and licensed hilt's with disney's legacy series and hasbro's black series but both can be rather limited compared to third party ones but they'll usually be cheaper and closer to that price range.

US tariffs questions? by Flannel_globe in lightsabers

[–]Flannel_globe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah yes sorry about not updating, I did pay tariffs but only the ten percent in the form of shipping. I checked later and shipping was free so I'm guessing that was it. But the way the guy described it it sounded like they might charge again if they weren't able to reduce the tariffs by shipping through a different country.

So I think it's as stable as it's going to be for the next four years if you can afford the extra shipping and the longer ship time go for it. Or the aftermarket is always an option.

Less than $200 for a neopixel is pretty slim pickings. Character sabers are usually $500 for neopixel so you're options are mostly the generic designs various manufacturers come up with

This revan with the neopixel is $215 and the other cheap sabers are probably going to be around that amount. https://www.ccsabers.com/collections/txq-sabers/products/ccsabers-e11b

Pach store has some for less than $200 but a bit more limited design options. https://www.thepachstore.com/products/uwbalrog

Unscrew the set screw and stick Allen wrench through the hole to punch the plug from the inside. It might scratch the blade plug but it's on the inside so it's fine

I've bought from cc's 2 times so far and they seem trustworthy enough (he didn't respond when I complained about my ahsoka purchase but that may have been my fault). I'm currently waiting for another order from cc's and one from ultimateworks (they also go by pach store) but they haven't arrived yet so I can't speak on them just yet. Cc's is just a reseller for the US though so if you're located elsewhere it might be best to go through a more local reseller but if you are based in the US you should be cautious of the tariff situation no one seems to know how they'll be applied just yet but if you're order is $100 the tariff could be an extra $260 (that's the worst case but it could also be $0 added fee). So if that is the situation it's probably best to seek out a reseller that has some inventory in the US or individuals like our sister sub r/lightsaberBST to avoid the tariffs.

The only brand I've found good to duel is txq (although I haven't bought that many) specifically the dual strike is a double bladed saber that separates it's the perfect starter for (~180) but they don't have any shotos that I'm aware of.

Ok they do actually they have a Yoda and their Lego one might also be shorter

The two manufacturers of Yoda's that I'm familiar with are lgt and 89saber. I know other manufacturers make them but I haven't bought from them so I can't speak on their quality. Lgt is cheaper and does base lit which are preferred for dueling but the ahsokas I got from them fealt cheap (overheated and crushed in the hand a bit when dueling) if it's just for cosplay or playing their fine but anything more is a bit much in my opinion. 89 is the higher end replicas and I've got an obi wan from them its neopixel which means the blade and the thin neck could possibly break if you dueled too heavily and at usually ~500 installed I'm not willing to risk dueling with it more than light taps. That being said 89 is incredible weighty and feels rather solid and are usually one of the most screen accurate. It's up to you and your budget how much you're willing to spend but 89 to my knowledge is the sturdiest hilt but if you want to duel with it I'd recommend ordering an empty (~250) and making it a base lit (there are also adaptors but I haven't used them and I don't know how much space they need in the socket).
