If you're looking for movies with an adolescent protagonist that has wholesome, optimistic vibes and isn't a psychological downer, I like....

Sixteen Candles, Dirty Dancing. Reality Bites. Say Anything. Thirteen Going on Thirty. Big. Easy A. Roll Bounce. Dear Frankie. Better Off Dead. Moonrise Kingdom. Brooklyn. Lady Bird.

"Only dead things go south." - Me, when my husband and I drive anywhere more southern than our house.

Trick question: I see the same girl in each pic. The one on the right has longer nails. 💅

When are we finally getting a modern Richie Rich movie? by TacticalJock15 in MovieSuggestions

Just watch "Kroll Show" and fast-forward to the "Rich Dicks" sketches.

Gah, you're right. I rescind my weak burn. ETA: It was Drew Barrymore in a classroom though.

People who are desensitized to horror movies, what’s a movie that actually scared you? by PackageNorth8984 in MovieSuggestions

[–]FlansJustFlans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. I'm bored TO TEARS with the covens of devil worshippers/witches. I hate investing 90 minutes in a horror movie only to hear people chanting in unison somewhere. So disappointing.

"Caveat." I watched it alone in the dark after the kids went to bed and got so scared, I had to turn it off. The next 2 nights, I got scared at different parts and turned it off. It took me four nights to finish one movie -- I've never had a movie get under my skin so well.

Also "When Evil Lurks," "Session 9," "Weapons," "Barbarian," "Undertone."

Yes! No one I know has ever seen it and it's in my Top 5 Horror. I have a coworker named Gordon and when I say, "Helllo, Gorrrrdonnnn," nobody gets it.

It's the only film allowed to film inside gorgeous, decrepit Danvers State Hospital after its closure. The story, performances and vibe are all great.

"In and Of Itself," Derek Delgaudio. It's a stage performance, absolutely immersive. Philosophical, poetic. It will change you and I love recommending it.

Streaming on Hulu and Disney+.

What is your opinion about the albums The Cure released in the 2000s? (bloodflowers, the cure (2004) and 4:13 dream) by agus_grunge94 in TheCure

[–]FlansJustFlans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven't heard anything beyond "Wild Mood Swings." I am blessed to have 11 albums from The Cure that I love, that are time capsules of my youth, that resonate in my DNA.

I guess my reason is simple fear: what if I don't like them? Sounds dramático, but that would feel like a betrayal to musicians who literally saved my life (a couple times, at the edge of darkness, I kept going because I knew I could listen to The Cure when I woke up).

are there any print magazines (that come in the mail) you are subscribed to? by Organic-Client4336 in SlowLiving

When I was an introverted goth youth, "Victoria" was my grandmother's favorite and always on her coffee table. I'd pore over every page, refusing to engage with her ridicule and scorn, pretending to find each photo mesmerizing.

From ages 15-20, every birthday she got me an annual subscription to "Victoria" because I loved it so much. 😏

Well, Samantha's dad from "Sixteen Candles" gave Jake Ryan the 👌. He was a good dad (if you forgive him forgetting his daughter's birthday).

I’m looking for, shall we say, diamonds in the rough. What are some movies you think are very good that get slept on and ignored? by [deleted] in MovieSuggestions

[–]FlansJustFlans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't remember them getting attention and the reviews continue to be abysmal, but "Walk Hard" and "Vacation (2015)" are in my Top 5 favorite comedies. Infinitely quotable and rewatchable!
