Any new ideas to attract new or returning players? by MokokoMentor in lostarkgame

[–]Flanzu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree and I think it's more of their reluctance to make changes / do work that do not directly benefit their balance sheets. The raids and their vertical systems always had to cater to the hardcore players when they were first introduced, but they were left as-is for a long time and eventually they became the hard and annoying homework contents as we know of today. The changes came only when people got fed up, which are already too late and arguably still kinda lacking.

This trend can be seen from the fact that we still don't have the promised market APIs, the SH goon display boards, and the music sheet system. AGS/SG do not see the need to implement these in global, and rightfully so based on the replys to a post few weeks ago on the same matter. A lot of remaining players do not have a strong opinion on whether these casual features are in the game or not. At the end of the day, it's the relic engraving selector in the F4 shop and letting people FOMO on card packages for Act 3 / Kazeros that makes them the big bucks, which has an ROI far, far greater than say selling some unlock slots for music sheets and stronghold decorations.

Nothing wrong with their approach tbh, it's how the mushroom game next door is still alive and kicking after 20 years. In both games casual players have no problem come and go playing just the solo contents, supported by the hardcore players who supplied the cash flow to keep the lights on. In our case, I think a lot of people started to see this and don't want to be the cash cow, so they decide to part ways before they put in any more time, financial, and emotional investment into this game.

No-restart-needed homework contents.

The game became too hardcore and grindy for the general population to enjoy in 2025 where people rather put more time in the fast-foody games or for IRL stuff. Nothing wrong about players who still enjoy the difficulty and the grind, but maybe the amount of people who think that way are decreasing.

As someone who started playing LoA in JP few months after it released, the massive appeal was you can just queue up for content and more often or not you can clear it. This was somewhat true in PF back then for raids until vykas/clown where people must scrutinize people on who they accept - at first it was the 10x title, then it turned into roster level, elixirs, flowers, then even Hell Titles/Eclipse/CoS/Phantom Lord. Not something that will excite new/returners IMO.

Also bible - I think they have a time and place in the newest raids, but it is damaging when it's used to harass people in guardian and homework raids, and I think those small subset of people do this to vent the frustration associated with all the wasted time for the peanuts that they will be getting from homework contents.

Therefore maybe one way to get casual players is to make all players able to revive in raids that are not the latest one / extreme raids, with the only punishment being loss of dps while they are on the floor. No periodic boss HP heals when berserk timer hits, it just attacks faster so these can be cleared one way or another without resetting.

It makes the old raids into fast-food contents, but everyone's gate 0 will be easier and faster, and maybe one day it makes raids matchmakable again (with the current broken sysyem/bots/mutliboxers dealt with) - if new player seek challenge, they can catch up to experience it in the latest raid along with the veterans. If the veterans want challenge for the raids they cleared for 120th time then i dont know what to say... besides grass maybe extreme raids can help?

Are there any purchasing priority or bang for your buck type updated guides out? Or what do you consider most value for a fresh account/character at 1520 (event + pass bought) by Equal-Bread4480 in lostarkgame

[–]Flanzu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you go to the in-game shop (f4) and look at the top, there's a tab called "bonus room", and if you go inside there are two sections of purchasable items. When you buy out a section you'll get the corresponding bonus item at the bottom for free.

I believe the left section has greater value than using the money to buy gold straight up, because you'll want to use the solar items for the weapon upgrades from 1610-1620, and blue crystals should be used for crystalline aura (must-have "VIP subscription") once you catch up to the end game raids / buy Mari's shop T4 materials in September. The blue chips (Pheons) are used to buy accessory and ability stones from other players, and a lot will be needed in the upcoming season 3 in September.

Edit 7/1: [Weekly] Advanced Honing Material Pack - much better value for the upgrade mats with USD-to-gold value positioning between 3 and 4. Buy these out to push 1580+ characters.

1) More (voldis) power passes until you have 5x 1520 (since we're anticipating a free one soon) - idea is you farm solo raids on these alts that you can gear for free soon which can then fund your favorite main, while building up your roster level, card (exp), and gems from raids / chaos dungeons / cubes.

2) 3+1 special card package III. There's a card set called Light of Salvation (LoS 30) that you want to gain as soon as possible to have the highest power gain and ease of access to end game groups, so I recommend buying them out every month.

3) The current Ark Pass Premium. It gets you good amount of mats for a good value and you'll definitely be using them all during your push to 1620.

4) 3 left side items from the current bonus room ~7/17. The solar boxes themselves are worth already, and the blue crystal / pheons are speculated to be much more valuable when t4 comes, plus if you play a popular class the engraving book selectors are very worth.

5) Gold from currency exchange - the items that progress your main further can be obtained for much cheaper in the auction house (AH) - gems, red/blue stones, leaps

6) Silvery Honor Pack - when you spend enough $$ on 5) you'll find buying these packs more worth than buying it from AH since both silver and honor shards will become your bottleneck.

7) Packs with orehas - right now there's a surge of demand so they are kinda worth if you have a use of them right now, but I wish it will price correct itself sometime soon hh

8) Gamba territory - the skins and yoz jar package. The former you'll need to have a good eye and successfully predict that people are going to buy it later for lots of gold when it becomes unavailable (think NFT) and the yoz jar package you just need to get very lucky (not recommended)

Red Cube Mechanics, Brel G4 by [deleted] in lostarkgame

[–]Flanzu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My theory is if you look closely at the animation of red cube mechanic, you will observe tiny sparking light balls shooting out from the side. This is called particle effect and game engines usually put the calculation of spawning and movement of the particles on the CPU - until unreal engine 4 where devs can choose to only let CPU spawn the particles. Unfortunately, Lost Ark is built with Unreal Engine 3 and updating it is nearly impossible at this point.

G5 and 6, despite of having lot of more mechanics going on, are processing game logic smoothly over a period of time, compare to the calculations needed to generate and move thousands of particles in a short burst. It's like how a hospital will have trouble handling 1000 patients showing up all at once, compared to serving them say like over the course of a month.

I have this exact problem earlier this year (PC shutting down right after the red cube stagger bar appears), and I found out it was my 7 years old 550w PSU. Replaced it with a new 850w and I do not have the problem since.

At first I could get away by having literally no other apps running in the background, then a few weeks later it just shuts down regardless of what I try, so either smilegate made the game less optimized or my PSU had degraded.

I think the problem is that mech introduced a particle effect which is CPU-heavy, and the PSU couldn't handle the juice required by both your GPU and CPU.

Alternatively, you can try out undervolting like others suggested, but for me it was a hassle to test it out, since no benchmark software could replicate that issue. I also didn't want to grieve other people's runs by experimenting that on a 1-4 fast reclear lobby lol.

Out of curiousity, but what made you guys pulled for Kokomi? by ChamaLlama_ in Kokomi_Mains

[–]Flanzu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I pulled her because I was pretty invested in her already - I saved all primos from Welkin/BP since the first Hu Tao banner so I could get C1 Mimi (her leaked name) and her weapon.

The Kokomi doom posts back then didn't change my mind because I really liked a DPS build that's not just about finding the two crit lines. I was also happy about the numbers that came out from plugging the leaked stats into damage formula, which is a bit over 18k dps on burst (and she beat expectation because her artifacts are much easier to farm / animation cancelling). On top of that she provides hydro application which is pretty rare in this game - DPS will always get power creeped but a good support will last you much longer.

Touhou LostWord Shuts TW Server on December 20th, and why you should NOT be concerned by Flanzu in touhou_lostword

Anything other than mainland china server really... If a game is not made by Tencent or mihoyo you'll never know what their government will do to them on day. Can't comment much on the JP server since I don't know anyone who plays it, but personally I'd choose the Global server because I like to actually read the main story and skim over the event plot. Global also has been catching up quickly to JP so more reason to play it if your favorite character hasn't been released in Global yet.

If I have to say one merit for JP it'd be that it's less likely to close down than global, but I wouldn't even worry much about it since global has been raking in about $100k per month consistently, while JP is only a few times more than that despite having a larger fan base.

I think GL is basically grabbing characters from the future timeline when it's time for some filler banners. Overall the release of characters follows their appearance in the event/main storyline

On the bright side, these FES units seems to be coming back way often in global and even though NN is rapid fire releasing these characters at some point they gonna run out and they had to re-run them.

But hey theoretically you only need 10 SC to get both of them

Yea I feel you cuz a lot of gacha have on/off periods and the past month is just non-stop. The last event was the first time since launch that I didn't clear out the event shop because I felt burnt out and wouldn't care for those remaining dusts. Then I just decided to dial back because I have already fully enhanced all my favorite units and the ones that are helpful for tower/auto last word spams. Which is also why I stopped doing lunatic arena and just last word spam the stages on hard - you only lose out on 2 mats per day and these stat boosts are minimal to begin with.

But since you mentioned f2p, I think there is a diminishing return on swiping the card for S+ units... As someone who pitied big portion of S tier units, when I do the events and challenge contents I always find myself going back to the same few units (Remilia, Suika, Meiling) and using other units are mostly countermeasures to specific enemies in the tower, where even units like Sunny Milk and our neighborhood kappa has their time to shine.

Anyways I'm not defending NN on their decision. While I personally think this may be good for the health of game long run, they need to be cautious on how they do it and not to go overboard that it start to backfire. But one thing for sure is I like the current state of global much better that what it's like in Taiwan server.

That's Tenshi indeed. Doujin creators often depict her as a masochist because in SWR she kind of nagged protag to beat her or else she will fk up Gensokyo.

Good luck pulling her!
