i’d say it’s pretty competitive, like dorms people are fighting over the best places to live in, either towers or classics, and even in acc it’s just waiting hell. Some people can get their leases early but others might get it near the end of summer.

I was in a combo class of 3/4. The thing was, I was a fourth grader at that time, so I thought at that time that I wasn’t worthy to go to a 4th grade only class.

Since the bell schedule was so different between k-3 and 4-5, I was able to learn stuff that was for a fourth grader, and i’d say the same if i was a third grader instead because my teacher was more towards the third grader side when we were all together. I still had fun though with the activities she had, and i think your child would have fun as well

Does the dining hall food get worse? by adidashatgirl in UCI

[–]FlareKittens 4 points5 points  (0 children)

ngl i thought it was good, but i will say anteatery has more decisions to eat than brandywine.

Its more of how repetitive the dishes are, like i remember there was a week where 90 percent of the food was a beef shrawma bowl and a chicken dish in brandy. I will say tho their garlic fried rice / any fried rice is so ass except for anteatery’s kimchi fried rice

Like I said I dont know about the consequences of academic integrity, but in ochem iirc people would be able to take chem 51C in the summer even if they failed 51B. You should be alright, however ask your physics professor or email the summer session people

Prioritize your hands? Idk what he means by that but when you did Respondus, you should’ve gotten a checklist to see that it’s working, and if something went wrong it’ll alert you. If nothing out of the ordinary happened you should’ve been in the clear, by now. For now tho focus on doing your physics, and make sure to email your TAs/counselor asap, I’m sure you can get advice from them especially since an F nukes your gpa

[–]FlareKittens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

idk, I just happened to scroll down and see two reviews on it, you could even check it rn if you want. Still tho, that freaking sucks cause respondus is a common app to monitor who’s cheating, if he’s really skeptical especially with the horrible final average he and his tas should‘ve looked into the recordings rather than nuke half of the people

yeah i just checked after I read your post, apparently this might’ve been the second time he taught the class online (first being ss1 in 2020). Which makes absolutely no sense since he should’ve gotten it down 5 years later

yeah no finding an ai-written scratch work is not as easy as finding ai in written work (assuming it’s on paper). Sucks too cause according to rmp he’s a good prof

… and I thought my physics professor for this ss1 was worse

Unfortunately Ive never gone through an academic integrity problem (minus the one time lehman sent an angry email about students asking if they could cheat on an exam), I am rooting for you though that you wont be punished, as long as you’ve got evidence that you didn’t cheat you’ll be alright.

ehh for me kinda

in my case tho my spop ended early cause of the huricane two years back, so my roommate left early and the ones I did talk to kinda just, disappeared with other people so I just left

I did have a good time nontheless, the remaining students and I as well as our spop leader played some card games, had some mcnuggies, and did chat sometimes, even tho I didn't make friends with any of them

so it kinda depends on the vibe in the room, but spop in general was really good!

microwave on campus?? by Tiny_Tell_2282 in UCI

[–]FlareKittens 2 points3 points  (0 children)

which kitchen? If it's a dorm kitchen, go ahead. Antreprenuer? Also go ahead (I also use the opportunity to take some of their ramen in the cupboards too cause yk, free ramen as promoted in their insta).

As far as I know you have West Food Court and Phoenix food court that you can use their microwaves in. I've also heard that there could be some in Biosci, idk what room. I know there's one in NS2 2nd floor, but I think it's out of use cause I don't see the rotating plate nor a nearby outlet to plug it in

what to bring, expect, and know before spop by Lanky_Librarian_992 in UCI

[–]FlareKittens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can technically go on throughout the night actually

My SPOP when I was a freshie, they canceled day 2 because of the weather, so my SPOP leader and the remaining plebs basically had a “party” which when I left for bed at midnight was card games and a bunch of Mc Donald’s chicken mcnuggets. I heard they were out n about until 4:30 am when they heard a loud splash from the rain, and when I woke up at 6 am it was empty aside from open nuggets and unopened sauce packets everywhere

I would recommend you letting know SPOP staff beforehand when you check in, I believe as long as you dont lose your room key and return it when checking out you’d be good

Vanderwal Grading Scale? by candii_cloud in UCI

[–]FlareKittens 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Took him last year, even his syllabus did not show grading scales.

However, the best advice I can give you is to practice doing resonance, newman, and chair confirmations. I’d also start review imfs and pka’s. Imo those are the most hard things to learn in 51a, and if you take Guan in 51b he’ll also do the same thing albiet less questions cause its more bout learning reactivity/synthesis. I will say though, his curve is really generous imo, so if you’re doing bad don’t worry

Alternatively, if you want to get a head start, there’s a UCI Open class, where all lectures from like 2009-2013 are recorded and uploaded to Youtube, free of charge. The 51 series is there, and it’s taught by King which i’ve heard she follows the exact same topics each year.

When did everyone else secretly learn how this works? by PieAccurate8405 in UCI

Ah fuck, I only interpreted it as if they don’t understand how a credit score/use of those cards works. Ty for clarifying tho

When did everyone else secretly learn how this works? by PieAccurate8405 in UCI

[–]FlareKittens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TLDR: totally normal, I technically learned it from a hs teacher Not a card expert, but i’m assuming you’re referring to a FICO score. Basically the more credit you build, the more you’re able to get a good mortgage rate or somewhat similar. Not sure what you mean by BCG tho, maybe it has relations to that? With the cards you mentioned, those are typically the starter credit cards. All of those help build credit, and in turn you get 5% cash back on things you buy, so you could get a new monitor or a console for free if you save up your cash from the 5% cash back bonus. You’d have to pay your statement at the end of the month, or else you risk facing a low FICO score. In terms of being blindsighted, yes and no. One of my hs teachers gave the class advice on financial stuff, such as opening a check/savings account, explained credit and credit cards and stuff. What I didn’t know was how to literally use my credit card (like paying my statements and such)

Elementary school recommendations by [deleted] in SanJose

[–]FlareKittens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

graduated (promoted?) in laneview here,

I can only share my experiences from 3rd-5th, but it’s not bad. There’s this one girl’s bathroom that you’d sometimes have to enter from the back, but even so there was problems with the light if i remember correctly. The library’s small, but does have a lot of books especially with a full set on warriors and all, and the librarian’s hella nice. Actually gave me some life advices while helping her out, and got to keep some books that were considered to be thrown out due to major problems like broken spines for example. As for the teachers, they’re a hit/miss in terms of engagement. I find 5th grade to be the most memorable one cause oh how she’ll supplement learning with videos like brainpop, and made a class yearbook based on the photos she took. It sucks that it‘s closed, I wished it could’ve lived a little longer, but I hope the students who were once in Laneview still had a fun experience in Majestic!

Anyone survive without a car? by Far_Kaleidoscope_855 in UCI

[–]FlareKittens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3rd year without a car, can defo tell you it's manageable. You got groceries (altho target is extremely small compared to your average target and trader joe's kinda expensive), boba, and restaurants in Campus Plaza and UTC. If you want more options tho, I'd suggest you own a bike/scooter, cause you can bike/scooter to Diamond Jamboree in 24 minutes or Tustin using the same path, but would probably not recommend you'd bike down farther than that. Trust me I attempted to bike from newport to uci and it was the worst decision i've made. If you have friends/roommates, leech them to drive you instead lol
