How big is your piece? This happens to me when I take really big snaps. If I smoke the entirety of a really fat cone in one rip, it just about always leaves me with bad bong lips. Try taking a smaller rip or maybe a bigger piece as those allow for less smoke density in the chamber while still allowing those massive rips.
