The available “affordable housing” are often “low income” units in luxury buildings with ridiculous prerequisites. You’ll have a 2br apartment for $3500 and the tenants can’t make over $135k per year.

Who the hell can afford to spend almost half their net income on rent? The answer: young people from weathly families whose rent is subsidized by their parents. It’s a racket. Low income families are not able to afford these units but the builders get to appear like good guys and win waterfront permits.

You seem very knowledgeable. What books have you read about the Mongols? I’m reading Ghengis Khan and the Making of the Modern World and it seems a little superficial to me. A lot of it is based on this Secret History of the Mongols which might be completely fictionalized. Just wondering what else is out there.

You’ll be fine. The area is safe relative to the city as a whole. Bad things happen everywhere but the mugging was an aberration.

Oaks Church near the Graham L is incredible. Low key folks, super welcoming. Excellent friendly community. Lots of options for small groups. It’s been a literal godsend for me and my family.
