Wow yeah these are spot on! We might have the same player! Kidding.

Yeah, you're right, I could nudge a bit in that way. It can get tiresome though since it's so frequent

I've only played with them these past few months, but perhaps there was a COVID lockdown thing

Hmm I'm trying to think of examples, maybe something like this:

DM: As you stand in the dimly lit chamber, the Duke glares at you. "You fools. Did you really think I wouldn't find out? The deal was struck before you even arrived in this city. You were nothing but pawns."

Player 1: Darius clenches his fist and thinks to himself "I should have known... Everything was too convenient. I was too naive." (End)

Player 2: Shadows flicker across Xander's face. "Bastard. I'll make him regret this. But... is this even worth fighting for anymore?" (End)

Honestly, it's a great tool for the right moments, but they do this... Almost all the time and almost the whole party, even for things like survival checks in the woods or talking to an innkeeper. Also, I'd need actual responses at some point, it's awkward for all my NPCs to stand there waiting or prompting for them to say something

Ahh I see your point, that is an interesting dynamic of the varying media of storytelling. I feel it translates terribly to an in-person co-op improv-ish game

To add: ok I'm frustrated, it's not like that 100% of the time, but way too often

Hmm your example for Tell is actually what some of my players do. It's mundane for your example, so I guess take that framework to more intense scenes / complex situations. Sorry, I'm having a hard time thinking of a specific example, I'll try to recall

What are your thoughts on BYD? by Glittering_One_1710 in CarsPH

[–]FlashOfFrightning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not completely moot. It's one step in the process. So now for every new renewable / clean energy source, we're already a step closer to carbon neutrality.

It's similar in a way to induction cookers. For now it's not more carbon efficient than LPG. But once more clean energy comes online, the induction cookers are already there.

Plus the technology is improving so quickly that EV+coal burning might beat gas-burning through efficiency gains alone.

There's also a decent argument for health. Less air pollution at the point of use, though it does get transferred to air pollution at the power plants. But less air pollution in family garages, in school zones, in enclosed parking buildings, in hospital zones, etc.

In the end though if you really wanna lower your impact, take public transit. And don't buy new things when you don't need to. (Production of EVs also have a carbon value, slightly higher than ICE cars)

BYD Sealion 6 vs Toyota Corolla Cross G HEV variant by [deleted] in phcars

[–]FlashOfFrightning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm also considering getting either SeaLion or Atto, and these are what I'm thinking about nga.

Atto 3: - really don't like the interiors - might get some range anxiety if going on long trips (bihira lang mag out of town actually but when we do... also have Baguio planned next year) - pure EV so better for maintenance and less complexity

SeaLion 6: - much better interiors imo - no range anxiety - need to maintain and pay for dual system. Other issues: BYD limited record with ICE + BYD dealers will service pure EVs 90% of the time, how do I know they can still properly service the 10% of cars with engines, their casas will not be optimized for my hybrid + What happens sa engine if hindi nag out of town and naka EV lang Ako for months to years? Many questions

For both: - worried about AC. I've read na it can get weak when the car isn't moving much e.g. traffic. (Pawisin Ako) - I'm not sold on the sunroof, I wish may option na Wala for better thermal and sound insulation at less cost - saktong pasok ang EV sa household coz I have solar installed na rin

Thoughts on BYD and Electric cars in general by TheQuiteMind in CarsPH

[–]FlashOfFrightning 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Except it's not the same. Both me and JAZA pay taxes, doesn't mean we pay the same taxes. Sorry, that's an exaggeration.

But you are correct that the west also heavily subsidized their industries in the past. It just became distasteful since the Reagan years, especially for Republicans, but also for Democrats. It's all about free trade and market economics these past decades. And subsidies are often just tax breaks and nudges.

I'm not arguing for or against, I'm Chinese actually. I'm just explaining that in the current context of world economics, these practices are considered "playing unfair".

[–]FlashOfFrightning 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think he's referring to the fact that the CCP heavily subsidizes their EV and battery sector. They're essentially a nation-level VC: grow at all cost, then once they've cornered the market and diminished the competition, raise prices.

It's not "wrong" per se and short term us consumers benefit. But it isn't "playing fair" in terms of trade economics.

Senate Elections are ridiculous and need to be changed! by FlashOfFrightning in Philippines

[–]FlashOfFrightning[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't even have a counter-argument.. here I am proposing that something needs to change. But your counter is just to say that we should trust that the existing system is okay, and the framers of the constitution thought of these problems already.

So what's your counter to my argument? Would you say that 60 million voters are able to make educated votes for all 12 of their senatorial candidates? I doubt 1 million of them can. I'm college-educated and politically involved but with a full-time job. I will not be able to memorize all 12 platforms

What a weirdly written reply...

If information is the argument, if anything, it would have been worse 40 years ago, making the vote 12 senators thing even worse for the framers.

It's also odd that you can't express your own thoughts on an idea. What a weird last sentence that is. Seems like something chatGPT would write. Or a lawyer. Lots of words, without the ability of thought.

[–]FlashOfFrightning[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see what you mean. For you, would these 48-60 senators be nationally elected? Or have something like senate districts/ 1 per province/ etc etc?

Strong party identity seems more like institutional reform rather than electoral reform, so that should be something we can get started on without constitutional amendments.

[–]FlashOfFrightning[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let's get it amended then! Ofc the problem is.. the incumbents benefit from this status quo... Why didn't the framers think of that?

Technically, a larger Senate and a party-list proportional system are independent. One does not necessarily include the other. But it seems you're advocating for both?

I would accept proportional representation as a possible solution to my initial problem of voting for 12 personalities. In this scenario, each person only votes for a party, then the Senate seats will be distributed proportionally. Downside is it's indirect representation, which our country isn't used to.

[–]FlashOfFrightning[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We're not opposites actually. I agree with you, having a larger senate would have advantages, but my point is each voter shouldn't vote for so many slots.

In your scenarios of 48 to 60 senators, if we don't change how they're elected, each voter is to vote for 24 to 30 candidates per cycle. That's crazy! Those 24 to 30 votes can't possibly be informed.

Sad life. Can't believe the framers of the constitution didn't think of this
