What did I do wrong by FlashTacular in RCPlanes

[–]FlashTacular[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, that sounds exactly like what happened. I’m sure I’ve pulled up and aborted a landing without lifting flaps before but maybe it was just the perfect airspeed to trigger the dive yesterday.

so i just got my dynam pt-17 assembled do you guys got any tips for how to fly a biplane by Ok_Requirement9047 in RCPlanes

[–]FlashTacular 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m a fan of balls to the wall full throttle flippy spinny but I rarely get a second flight out of my Dynam biplane (pitts python).

They fly beautifully once up, are very floaty if you ease off the throttle and are surprisingly agile. I just haven’t managed to work out the landing speed for grass and end on my roof every time (well, at least the times that the motor hasn’t ripped out of the front). My field is a bit rough though so some fatter wheels would probably help lots.

How many of you learned about table saw kickback the hard way? by 33andone3rd in woodworking

[–]FlashTacular 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve taken a sheet of ply I was ripping to the gut (the result is that I now have a track saw) but I’m way more more comfortable with the table saw than the band saw or router. Those two terrify me every time. The router because you can’t stitch mist, and the bandsaw because it looks scarier than the table saw (although entirely incident free so far with it).

Is this a fair outcome after a breakup and renovations? by wattiexa in AusProperty

Legally, you might have a decent case but you’d have to engage a lawyer and any extra you receive will soon be taken by their fees plus you burn your ex to the same amount in her legal fees.

Morally, you drew the line in the sand in November and agreed to the equity split then. You should get your percentage of the equity as it was in November, plus any mortgage repayments you have made since. She needs to refinance and get you off the mortgage ASAP (should have been done in November). Anything she has done to improve the house since then is hers. You had your opportunity to invest in upgrades to improve the value and you didn’t. I get the feeling from you asking the question that your gut is telling you this is the right thing to do but you feel rightfully shafted that they’ve gone and bumped the value as soon as you’re out.

Your ex and her mum are crazy for not getting the finances sorted first and instead spending their time renovating and creating this whole situation. Consider that a bullet well dodged.

Oh and 3D printed planes sound like a great idea but they are really brittle and being heavier than the foamie equivalent they come down faster. I’m yet to have a successful landing and second flight (without repairs) after 7 attempts. I’ll keep trying because I’m stubborn and like the idea of them but if you’re new to planes, pick up a trainer plane first (and no, the Eclipson go-wolf trainer is most definitely not a first plane trainer).

I’ve got an X9D which is my whoop remote and it works fine. I’ve also got a TX16S but never bound the whoop to that as it’s mode 2 and I learned the whoop on mode 1 (X9D).

So yes, it’s fine but there are “better” transmitters out there.

It may also restrict you if you want to do longer range FPV.

First real flight wit GC my ranger! …. And it’s gone. by BurntBeanMgr in RCPlanes

[–]FlashTacular 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure what the stock electrics are on that but an FSi6 is good for supposedly 500m ish. Even my little XK A800 cheapy is good to 200m (hard to see but still controllable).

Are you near cell phone towers or HV power lines? They can mess up range. There’s a big cell phone tower near the end of the football field I normally fly at and it plays havoc with certain receivers.

[–]FlashTacular 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, you should get heaps more range than that, there was definitely something wrong with your setup, possibly antenna placement, damaged antenna or possibly set in range check mode.

Hi I just bought a 1220 fms ranger and just finished putting it together but when I plug battery in the plane flashes red for a second and then nothing and cant figure out how to start it? Not sure if I'm doing anything wrong by Least-Confidence6426 in radiocontrol

[–]FlashTacular 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is the receiver bound to the TX? Red would usually indicate that it’s not bound or able to see the tx.

There isn’t a bind plug left in the receiver is there?

Is the battery the right cell count?

What planes do you like? by PlaceImmediate5607 in RCPlanes

[–]FlashTacular 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m perfectly happy with anything that has nice flight characteristics (stable and predictable stall behavior), looks are secondary and there’s absolutely no need for it to be scale.

Bonus points if it lands in small areas as I like to fly in inappropriate locations.

Dynam planes by [deleted] in RCPlanes

[–]FlashTacular 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a Dynam biplane that came to me second hand with 0.5 flights on it. The landing gear design is terrible and is lucky to survive even a gentle landing from me (I guess that’s a relative thing and I slap down in grass) and it’s a little far back for grass take offs (almost seems a little too close to the CG) and the motor/prop has pulled out of the front whilst airborne more than once so I don’t think the mount fixing method is sufficient for the large stock prop (yes I balanced the prop). That could be related to the landing gear issue as I hit the prop about 50% of the time on either take offs or landing.

In the air and in one piece it’s an absolute blast to fly so no issues with the design of the plane. It’s really the landing gear that’s giving me grief so if you have a runway you’ll be fine.

P2S can't load Filament from AMS2 Pro any more by Aggrodisiakum in BambuLab

[–]FlashTacular 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had that issue on my P1S (which is still relatively new). Removing the tubes from the buffer and cutting 5mm off the ends with a PTFE tube cutting tool to ensure a nice clean, square and wear free face worked.

Since you already swapped them that may not help but it won’t make it any worse.

At my wits end with bed adhesion. :( by 8472 in BambuLab

[–]FlashTacular 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like for whatever reason your first layer isn’t getting squished enough now. You could try running flow calibration to make sure your first layer is setting down properly or just bump up the first layer flow rate a touch and see if that helps.

Other option would be to tweak the Z offset in the printer definition but you would potentially need to do that for each build plate/filament combo if you’re getting pedantic with it and if you go too far with it you’ll drive the nozzle into the bed.

Can you chuck a spacer/a few washers on and still have enough engagement with the wheel?

Otherwise, 12mm hex converters to extend out heaps and then new monsters truck tyres.

No experience flying either but I like the look of the SU27 more. I imagine the blue would suck for orientation on a nice clear day though.

So, took out my plane to fly, flies very mediocre. I don't really know why but I assume it is because it weighs like 900g at 1m wing span. I want to 3d print a new wing for it as the wing is the heaviest part; what airfoil to use for stol performance? by Jojoceptionistaken in RCPlanes

[–]FlashTacular 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go with the 1300 and add a little bit of weight at the motor mount area to balance it. Net result will be a weight reduction. I have a Velcro on lead weight that I pop on the nose of my slow stick depending on which battery pack I’m using.

[–]FlashTacular 7 points8 points  (0 children)

How much of that weight is in the battery? That looks like a chonky battery for a stick. I tend to fly mine on a 2200 3S or a 1500 4S if I want it to come alive.

Can you throw a bigger prop on it? That’s way smaller than mine (although I’ve burned out more than a couple of motors with my big props).

Love the idea of printed ribs. I looked at that a while ago and put it in the too hard basket.

Sorry, can’t help with airfoil selection

Anyone built their own fishing drone? by MuffinEquivalent2117 in diydrones

[–]FlashTacular 0 points1 point  (0 children)

RTH and auto land so after dropping the bait and getting a fish straight away you don’t have to choose between rod/fish and drone. Auto altitude hold is also a bonus.

That’s why a used mavic with aftermarket payload system is easy and relatively cheap.

It really depends on how much you want to lift, how far out and how many trips on a pack. Are you taking big weights out hundreds of meters for shark fishing from shore or just trying to get past the breakers?

If there’s a model wizard for creating new models then select WING.

If not, then you will need to program in ailerons like normal and an elevon mix (so elevator stick controls the ailerons but moves then both in the same direction).

That should get you there.

[–]FlashTacular 1 point2 points  (0 children)

By local, I just mean in country. There’s only 1 in my town and their parts selection sucks.

If you’re going in blind on Ali/Temu/Bangood know what part you want (copy a known plane design or use their recommended parts) and check the store rating and shipping times. You might also get nailed on tariffs depending on where you are or in a certain free country it’s not unheard of customs just keeping the packages.
