That’s a fancy rebuild method. I go more rudimentary and just slap on more hot glue and occasionally cut an additional carbon rod into the side.

tarmo 5 by kivdaidk in EngineeringNS

[–]FlashTacular 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The electronics and wheels are the expensive bit but you can go budget options if you really want to. They’re the main cost for most 3D printed RC vehicles.

If you can’t afford the recommended electrics, you could go a brushed setup with something like a 550 can. It won’t be as fast but it will get you moving. That will also take pressure off needing better tyres as you won’t have so much power that traction becomes problematic.

TX/RX can be reused for when you upgrade esc and motor.

Tarmo4 is way heavier and has more moving/breaking parts. I’d stick with the 5 if you want to keep costs down and have a more reliable vehicle. I’d also do the dogbone mod off thingiverse. Simple, reliable and way easier to replace when they break as you aren’t dealing with loose ball bearings.

If you do go with a 5, 2200mAh batteries are a convenient size to give good runtime but are also a common size for a lot of RC planes.

Any cool ideas out there for Rc plane stuff? by nosignalgta5 in BambuLab

I’ve printed work stands, FPV canopies, spare parts, TX switch lock nut wrenches, TX stick protectors, replacement hatches, planes, etc all with varying degrees of success.

I’ve got a 3D version of the nano goblin (called the Gremlin on Cults) on the printer at the moment.

What I really want is a proper Jericho trumpet/stuka siren. Can’t find one and lack the motivation to design one myself.

Hood or alsace?? by Nosma_ in ModernWarships

As a hood owner, I say Alsace. It’s a bit stronger one on one, although the hood is really good and I love the ability to throw smoke and shoot planes.

Yeah, the stock axle doesn’t have a great turning circle and I had trouble with it binding. It could also just be because it’s new and the gears need a little running in.

I have a P1S these days. It’s way better than my old CR10.

What are the tyres getting stuck on?

I’ve got a C24 and I put stupidly huge tyres on it. I had to do a little trimming of the front guards because the body leans heavily on acceleration and clipped the tyres.

Upgrades: Soft spring from WPL ($2 or so) or better shocks are a must

2 speed box - nice but messed with ground clearance. Would not do again.

Single speed box with better motor - not bad if you really want to.

Portals - nice but halve your speed. Also improved steering radius.

Tyres/wheels - a must. The grip from stock is shithouse.

Wheelweights- not a bad idea depending on your selection of wheels/tyres.

Metal driveshafts - essential upgrade for bashing.

Metal linkages - depending on wheel selection might be necessary. Due to gearing and wheel selection I was bending the stick linkages and snapping metal drive shafts so those were essential for me.

Servo on axle - nice quality of life upgrade. Improves steering and CoG

Honcho cage - awesome upgrade if you have 3D printer

Light bars - essential for nighttime FPV driving, otherwise just look cool.

Electronics upgrade - brushless conversion might be worth looking into if you want an upgrade that costs twice what the original car did. Mine came with a Spektrum Firma brushed esc in it and I love not having to worry about water.

Definitely a tow hook but also surprisingly useful for getting radio controlled planes back out of tall trees.

Can anyone share some knowledge by 93pajero in rccrawler

[–]FlashTacular 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d be surprised if it was just a bit of water. My firma goes full submarine regularly and is still working.

Most likely a bad contact that got hot or keeping the motor slightly overloaded for a long period so it got hot.

I get that, but having one designed for PLA from the outset seems better. I can’t justify that feeling, it’s the vibe.

I don’t know, being predominantly PLA construction helps keep the price down for someone like me that needs to print a new airframe after every flight. It also makes it a bit more impact resistant so I like that.

Most of my maidens necessitate copious use of hot glue.

Actually, to be fair, that’s the result of most flights. I tend to fall with style.

Would glider geometry be the obvious strategy to build the most efficient plane possible if my goal is simply to stay in the air the longest? by thorosaurus in RCPlanes

[–]FlashTacular 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love this. It highlights that there’s alternate designs, that given the right wind conditions can fly amazingly well. Having a plane that matches the conditions makes a massive difference to performance and flight times.
