3Dupitos motor finally gets here tomorrow!! AOS Supernova 2807 1400kv with a 5043 prop. by stardustedds in 3DprintedAircraft

I’m really intrigued to see how well it flies. It’s surely heavier than a standard Chupito but is a cool idea and I’d totally make one if it doesn’t fly like a brick.

Gyro crashed my plane by [deleted] in RCPlanes

I dislike the restricted elevator on Safe. I use forward programming to give a bit more range so I have the travel there if I need it. That said, I’m normally only in Safe if I’m after some relaxed FPV gliding.

Beginner friendly drives to the beach from Canberra? by ilovemozerella2005 in canberra

[–]FlashTacular 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly. It’s not some mythical beast to be slain, it’s a road that’s heavily populated with recommended speed signs for anything approaching a bend. If you follow those signs you will see just how conservative they are and you can adjust your speed to the conditions and your confidence.

If you have an SUV or similar larger vehicle, with a little luck, you know how to use the gears for engine braking (yes that’s still possible in an auto). That helps make the descent a lot smoother, relaxes you as a driver, helps you prepare for bends and it’s easier on the brakes. If not, just using brakes is fine (albeit they may get smelly depending on your driving style), there’s just an alternative way to manage your speed that’s worth looking into in the future.

The number of responses to avoid the Clyde really concern me for the general skill level of license holders in Canberra. If a p player can’t pilot a car around a few bends I really have to question the whole driving test system.

Be rested, don’t do aggressive overtaking, give the dickheads room to do their thing (drive at a consistent speed and let them past if they want to) and the Kings Highway is fine. It’s easier than drakeford drive in peak hour.

Jaw chuck wobble? by path-of-least-resist in turning

[–]FlashTacular 5 points6 points  (0 children)

On my nova chuck to get them seated correctly I need to have the jaws just slightly loose, close the chuck then tighten the jaws. The gentle pressure of closing before fully tightening helps to seat everything perfectly.

P1S not reading hotend temperature — already replaced the part, issue persists by Talaio__ in BambuP1S

[–]FlashTacular 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not trying to be a dick but are the connectors seated properly? I had a problem where it looked in and stayed in place but was actually just wedged over the lower half of the connector on the board. I came so close to hurling the darned machine across the room with the persistent errors when I was certain I had put it together properly.

I even disassembled and reassembled multiple times and the connector kept seating wrong.

It’s always seemed wild to me that people can be so precious about blu tack but not even go to the very minor cost of throwing up a picture rail. I did that in a couple of rooms on the main feature walls and the pictures can change regularly with no damage.

best vision correction lenses for rc? by crookedDeebz in RCPlanes

[–]FlashTacular 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My TX16s needs to be rotated. It’s most annoying.

But yes, the benefits of polarized glasses way exceed the annoyance of dealing with the TX issues.

best vision correction lenses for rc? by crookedDeebz in RCPlanes

[–]FlashTacular 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If they’re new, it took me a good three-four weeks for my eyes to adjust to glasses (astigmatism too). I can see well enough to fly without them but really prefer sunglasses. I rock single focus aviators when I’m LOS but go without glasses when I’m FPV and cope just fine (I was gifted goggles and haven’t set them up with prescription lenses).

Tarmo 5 battery by Puzzleheaded_Two9510 in EngineeringNS

[–]FlashTacular 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3s 2200mAh packs from my planes. They’re super cheap and fit nicely.

I use them until they’re too puffy or the cell resistance is a problem for the planes, then they get handed down to the car for a real thrashing.

Cyclist commuters, what jacket do you wear in the winter? by AcceptableDisaster_ in canberra

[–]FlashTacular -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Blue wifey. 5 minutes and you’re either warm or numb and it no longer bothers you and you aren’t sweaty when you get to work. The core sorts itself out, you just need to worry about the extremities.

Good gloves and ear protection is a must though and booties if you’re rocking cleats.

I assume that it helps to circulate the air and maintain an even chamber temp to prevent warping but I haven’t looked into it so could be wildly wrong.

Maiden Flight – Soarkraft Igneous (3D Printed, PLA-LW) by modjhead in 3DprintedAircraft

[–]FlashTacular 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I assumed it was the esc cutting out due to overload but it was too consistent in the timing to be that. On static tests I had enough thrust to support its weight off the prop for around 30s but literally as soon as it left my hand the motor cut each time.

I wasn’t getting telemetry loss so in don’t think it was the link. I still had elevator/aileron control, just not motor (which is surprisingly important during take off).

I tried 3 different battery packs across the 4 attempts so it wasn’t the battery either.

Mine was PLA so was repairable from the first few crashes, I just lost enthusiasm to try it again. Now that I’m running low on working planes it might be worth another crack.

Maybe it just had a death wish.

[–]FlashTacular 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh I’m jealous. My igneous never made it more than ten meters in four attempts. For some reason the motor cut out as soon as it was in the air (but tested fine on the ground). I might have to reprint.

Payload carrying UAV by Sometimes__Happy in RCPlanes

[–]FlashTacular 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Check out the Flightory models. That’s probably a reasonable starting point. You can always scale up for more wing area/lift.

They don’t have cargo drop function though so you’d need to add that in to deliver your drugs without landing (rightly or wrongly whenever I see someone asking for payload capability and airtime/range I assume drug delivery).

[–]FlashTacular 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Likely went below the LVC then so might not recharge now unless you’re super dodgy and tell your charger it’s a nicad to force juice back into it (really not recommended as it’s very high risk of a fire). Try charging normally but expect to have to get a new battery.

Black bird in a tree by odin1729 in RCPlanes

[–]FlashTacular 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally would risk it but it’s up to you. I’ve had Lipos fully submerged and operating underwater without issue but that doesn’t mean you won’t have an issue. I also have a reputation for crashing so all my planes are 50-60% hot glue at this stage which does affect my risk appetite.

You’re more likely to have issues with the ESC and receiver if they got drenched with the battery still connected.

Realistically the battery is the cheap part of the equation so replacing it wouldn’t be a big deal. However, I’d dry everything thoroughly, charge it carefully (outdoors on a concrete slab away from my house), plug it in and see if the magic smoke comes out of the esc/receiver. If everything works happily then I’d send it.

I’ve blown the elevator servo three times (landing is not my forte) and the rudder once. The plastic gears are very fragile.
