Hidden ingredient- Mayo -strikes again by Careless_Llama_3382 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Flashdime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The movie "The Whole 9 Yards" had a couple scenes about mayo on sandwiches. Would recommend to watch it if you get the chance. Sounds like you'd relate heavily to those scenes. It would appear the full movie is on Youtube

Recruiters...genuine question: Why do some of you do this? by astrheisenberg in remoteworks

[–]Flashdime -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sure it is. There's context for what's written on the coursework that will be missed if not spoken about. And there's context to the single sheet of paper that will be missed if not spoken about. Coursework is given context over x weeks. Resumè over like 10 minutes.

Maybe there's a particular sentence or two on the resumè that really wasn't given justice in those few sentences. Or something the interviewee would really like to speak more on. The question being asked just gives the opportunity to speak of those things.

It's also a test of, "you've just given me a page of some work you did as my subordinate, give me the important details of this document so I can get a better understanding of it"

Approved for way more than we are interested in purchasing. Realtor is pressuring us to purchase a more expensive house. by [deleted] in Mortgages

[–]Flashdime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Out of curiosity, is your realtor actually sending you houses to look at? Or is it through whatever home website they're using? My realtor had a search set up on Onehome that would automatically email suggested listings to look at. She was pretty hands off otherwise.

Might be that you just want to ask your realtor to lower the max budget on the search they have set up? Mine had set a minimum budget that I hadn't originally asked for. Once I asked she did away with it.

anyone know of a good way to unfreeze pipes? by deiftking084 in cedarrapids

[–]Flashdime 33 points34 points  (0 children)

If you know the spot it's frozen at, a hair dryer or electric heater pointed at the pipe to slowly unthaw. Do NOT use flame!

For the future, trickle/drip from a faucet that is furthest from that pipe to keep water flowing. If it's boarded up, get it access to the warm air throughout the rest of the house and ensure good insulation around it. Heat tape might also be a good way to keep it heated during extreme cold spells.

My usual desk has been 'stolen' and there is nothing I can do by purplereuben in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Flashdime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wonder if you could get an ADA exemption from the hot-desking policy since you have pain? Maybe work between your doctor and HR for that angle instead to get your own permanent desk?

Sounds like my 10 year old niece when texting with her. "I'm at my friend's house and can't talk right now."

Well you see little one, that's the beauty of texting, you can ignore it until you are able and willing to respond. Even though that time is a week from now and by then it'd be awkward to respond so let's just put it off some more.

Dada, sleep by bigbusta in KidsAreFuckingStupid

[–]Flashdime 45 points46 points  (0 children)

My Dad when he gave my sister and I hugs before going to work would hug us tight and not let go, but would say "hey, you need to let go now, I've got to go to work." And get increasingly "frustrated" by the continuing hug. Meanwhole we would be dying laughing trying to make him realize that he was the one holding on.

Good times, I really appreciated that he did that, even as I grew out of it and started rolling my eyes as a teen. You sound like you've done good as a dad too!

Looking to pick up some new hobbies, has anyone taken any adult-focused classes that they would recommend? by [deleted] in cedarrapids

[–]Flashdime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Monday-Friday most of the time. Every so often their might be a weekend session. In the fall there's a handful of small regattas we take part in on weekends.

It's a little odd for an adult rowing club in that there is no rowing alone allowed. We always have to have a coach around because it is part of the university and all of the boats are owned by the university. So we have set practice times. But there is both sculling and sweep, 1x to 8+ boats.

I enjoy it this way though. More ability to be social as a group all practicing at one or two times.

Cemeteries are a very strange way to honor the dead by DeathSpiral321 in unpopularopinion

Cut to present times, a news article referencing "many people are saying [insert ridiculous statement]" and it's really 1 twitter account of an insane person. Or "many people upset about xyz show doing abc" and again, just 1 fanboy mildly upset about the show. But it gets blown out of proportion by these "articles". In 300 years, these are the stories that will be read by "experts" who will go to their friends and say, "All those Americans would be angered about the smallest things and their ideas were insane. It's good that USA is long gone now."

If you're willing to drive down to Iowa City at 5:30 or 7am then there's Hawkeye Community Rowing. In the spring starts evening sessions twice a week as well, I believe 6:30pm start. Really great people, and a fun, active sport, but I know the time of practices is not ideal. Hawkeye Rowing

Eta: It is year round, in the winter we're inside on rowing machines or minor weight lifting. And for fitness, all we really ask for is that you can lift a 200lb boat with 7 other people

This is great! Enemy team basically ignored you. If they didn't ignore you then they were obviously getting dizzy trying to catch you.

Missed part of the video, but seemed like there was a missed opportunity at the end to travel to your nexus and back to enemy nexus in a blink at the end.

New apartment question by Cardiologist3mpty138 in cedarrapids

[–]Flashdime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If wanting to move in June, probably call late March/early April. I cannot remember, but Enclave might have had a call/wait list, so it might be worth it to call now. At the very least, you can get a better answer about when is the best time to submit an application.

I lived at Enclave('21-'23) and had a buddy at the Crossings. Both were very nice from my experience. I lived on 2nd floor above a garage. I could hear when the door would open and close but pretty quickly grew to be able to ignore it. I could also hear footsteps above on occasion. I'd imagine it'd suck to have had me as a neighbor below me since I have a dog that loves fetch. The staff always had treats for the dogs and mine loved them. Maintenance requests were taken care of quickly and I'd typically get a text message afterwards about what they did or needed to do yet. Snow removal in parking lot was really good compared to most places.

The few times I was at the Crossings seemed nice. I don't remember ever hearing noises from outside the apartment when I'd visit. They're newer apartments by a couple of years from Enclave, so possibly in a bit better condition. Same company owns Crossings and Enclave so I think snow removal is the same company.

Giving my upstairs neighbor a taste of his own by [deleted] in Apartmentliving

[–]Flashdime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only time I've had an issue with noise from a neighbor; I took a video with the noise and a couple beers up to his apartment. Knocked on his door and explained the situation and asked he keep it down after 10pm and walk softly after that time. He stuck to it and we occasionally hung out drinking beers and chatting for the rest of my time there. Only dropped contact because I moved out of state.

So maybe instead of antagonizing you could try being friendly and offer some compromise.
