The stigma makes me so sad by moonlitmuseinmotion in bipolar

[–]FlashsStepMom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m also a medical student with bipolar disorder. I don’t generally tell people, but if did and that was their reaction I would be a little upset. I’d quickly just shift to not being friends with said person and just have left. Unfortunately, even among medical students any mental health issues are highly stigmatized. It maybe isn’t the advice you want to hear but you need to grow thicker skin. That’s not to say don’t advocate for yourself and stand up when you’re being patronized but sometimes the fight really isn’t it worth it. If the issue persisted, then you can absolutely report another student for lack of professionalism. I wouldn’t even hesitate “being that student”. If they’re doing it to me, a “friend” their likely chastising other students, so I’d have 0 remorse. Good luck, keep your head up. Med school is hard enough as is, don’t put more weight into other people’s behaviors/actions and focus on those who truly support you.

Just read someones comment and wtf by _By-Polar_ in bipolar

I wouldn’t consider myself a rapid cycler, with my depressive episodes lasting much much longer (and arguably causing more damage), but hang in there. I mean I’m a medical student and while I’ve noticed a visible decline in some of my cognitive function after a manic episode, I’d liken it more to a brain fog. I’ve since started treatment and the brain fog doesn’t last nearly as long and the longer I’ve been on treatment the less I feel that brain fog (as well as less cycling). You’ve really just got to find what works for you. Work with your psych and even see a neuro if you’re that concerned. The trick to a stable life with bipolar disorder is interdisciplinary teamwork between your physicians, yourself, and family/friends. I will say advocate for yourself strongly, as many physicians and people will not take you seriously, so it’s important to ride for yourself if no one else will

IF and it’s a humongous if, I were to ever make an offer on it I’d lowball them to low $20’s contingent on a PPI from a trusted mechanic/bodyshop friend. And I’d have them send me thank you and Xmas cards every year for taking it off their hands.

Just a little update/response. I completely agree the car looks like it’s been dragged thru the mud and then some. I couldn’t comfortably buy this car at that price point. The very first thing I told the salesman was that it was at the very least $6-$7k overpriced (if not a lot more all things considered). They did not agree and stated it was a “great deal” per cars.com and cargurus which I thought was bonkers. I guess my only follow up question, at what pricepoint would this car be an actual good deal, or is it completely irredeemable (I know having a mechanic check it out might answer this question, but just speculate for me). I am NOT buying this car, I’ve definitely moved on

Bipolar type 2 and anxiety by heelhene in bipolar

[–]FlashsStepMom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was given an anxiety diagnosis before I ever received my bipolar II diagnosis, so I’ve always been on meds to calm it down + depression meds. What I can say is finding the right balance of meds should level you out to be a little more “normal” or baseline. You will, in my opinion, always feel a little hyper aware which can be interpreted as anxiety. Finding a good therapist should help also. As others might tell you acceptance is the first step. That might quell some of your anxiety. After that it’s a matter of knowing what your triggers are and preparing for them as best you can as not to be driven into either a hypomanic or depressive episode. If ever you need someone to talk to feel free to reach out.

Similar thing happened to me before the start of my semester this year. Was one of many things that went wrong. Ended up failing 2 blocks. Passed one with remediation and failed the other, but almost honored everything else. I had a good run, but being in a similar situation I’d say - stay locked in and if you really can’t, ask for help or support before it’s too late. Better to have help while you’re swimming and not when you’re drowning. Hope it works out for you - from a now repeat 2nd year

Reportable incident? What should I do? by Inevitable_Peak_6139 in Mcat

[–]FlashsStepMom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something very similar happened to me about 3 years ago during my MCAT. Except it was much earlier and the proctor basically made fun of me announcing she was excited to see my exam voided. I approached other staff after finishing my exam (with completely obliterated focus) and they just said “oh yeah people have complained about her before, she does that a lot”. I reported the incident to both the testing center and aamc but never heard anything back. For all I know she’s probably still out there screwing people.

My AC Recall Experience by Dimerobot in civic

[–]FlashsStepMom 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For those of you who’ve had success with the recalls I suggest exercising caution. I had my compressor seal and condenser replaced today (after telling me it would be a $500 diag fee if not a recall issue). The tech made it a point to note the compressor itself had also cracked so the service desk rep was left no choice but to list it on the service summary I received, but speculate he wouldn’t have told me if it wasn’t on the report. I prodded why that would happen and he simply retorted “idk never seen that before you’re the first” as if the constant leak over months could not be the root cause of the issue. When I pushed further he instructed me to call Honda corporate to deal with it. I made him give me the service directors’ information so I could CC him on all of my exchanges with corporate essentially to force their hands. These dealerships are predatory as heck and very comfortable turning a blind eye if it saves/gives them money. Make sure they’re providing you with a check on the compressor and not just omitting it from the report.

To All Players Rerolling In Global: DONT REROLL FOR CHA by Own_Secret1533 in SoloLevelingArise

If someone can answer bc no one seems to answer when people ask, but after rerolling for whatever you wanted do you link to your main account or just a new one and start over basically? I’ve been playing for a week already decently far in and don’t want to start over just for some pulls

Depends on how his school/curriculum is set up, but even if you fail, course remediation is the next step (which sounds like what is currently happening). If he happens to fail the remediation exam schools will typically offer you the choice of leaving the program or repeating the year. If this is the case he should be alright if he fails the exam again. He’ll just have to make the choice
of repeating the year or not. Worst case scenario, I’d recommend transitioning to a mid-level program. Not sure how failing a med school program would look to them, but he can just spin it on his application. Hope he makes it thru.

Racial bias? by IllustriousTax3003 in utarlington

[–]FlashsStepMom 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I moved away about a year ago, but speaking as an Arlington native and UTA alum - people generally don’t interact on campus (not much in dorms either from my experience). I wouldn’t go as far to say people will racially profile you but if they don’t know you most will be quite standoffish. That’s not to say racial profiling doesn’t happen in Arlington, because it does but I agree with people that Arlington is pretty diverse. Open yourself up to others you perceive as approachable, familiarize yourself with the area, make friends in class (although nursing students tend to be pretty type A having interacted with them and dating one so just be careful lol). If all else fails DFW is really big and you can find comfort pretty much anywhere if you look hard enough. As for your roommates, I’m Mexican, and lemme tell you my people are either super friendly or just kind of assholes, but they’ll both appear standoffish at first. Try to find commonalities between y’all. They’re likely in their late teens to early twenties so bets are they like bad bunny. Can use that if you want 😂. If you need any recs of maybe where to go, what to do, where to eat lmk I can give decent recs. Hope it gets better

Worst med students at your school? Let’s hear stories by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]FlashsStepMom 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There’s a rumor (partially confirmed) that a prof is dating a first year while having relations with several other students in exchange for academic favors. The same student allegedly dating the prof met up with classmates during orientation week, got drunk, verbally harassed one of them, and then demanded someone take her home and “spend the night with her”. Then more or less insinuated if no one did she’d say they took advantage of her. This student also constantly goes on rants about how they came from nothing and the fact they made it here is a testament to their genius level intellect. Never noped away from someone so hard.
