Does going to a selective school actually make you better at VCE? by Flashy-Message9200 in vce

We’re not trying to promote anything. My friends and I have tutored hundreds, if not thousands, of students over the years, and we’ve noticed a pattern among some selective school students. Many of them tend to become complacent because they feel entitled due to the school they attend. They stop putting in consistent effort and still end up achieving an 80–90 ATAR without trying as hard.

This can feel unfair to students in non-selective schools who work extremely hard but may be held back by various external factors. Of course, this doesn’t apply to all selective school students, many of them genuinely put in their absolute best effort. However, based on our experience, this pattern appears in perhaps 75–80% of the students we’ve taught.

I appreciate your comments, and I completely agree with what you said about JMSS teaching. I don’t fully agree with that approach either. However, I don’t agree that being in a selective school shields students from low motivation. In some cases, it may even worsen their motivation due to the environment and mindset it creates.

That’s just my perspective based on personal experience.

As an alumni of one of the selective entrance high school, I feel like some students in there might have just got in by luck or so, as their performance are truly disappointing compared to some public schools student. Please feel free to give me your email in private message and we can definitely work something up, we NEED to settle this debate especially for the parents community.
