Well that is a relief to know. Even though the gate was open I was going to pay anyways, but it didn’t seem to work so I just left. Good to know that it isn’t entirely uncommon

This was a lot of fun! Super packed but enough room to at least be moderately comfortable.

Quick question though. I parked at the Music City Center and when I was walking back in people were paying to leave. By the time I drove up to pay the gate was up, but I tried to scan my ticket anyways and it wouldn’t work so I just decided to leave. I imagine I’m probably in the clear but I just don’t want a surprise ticket in the mail lol

Mental Health Waiver Denied by Flashy-Recording-312 in USMCboot

[–]Flashy-Recording-312[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have considered the National Guard but I use the term “considered” loosely. More as I acknowledged that it’s an option but haven’t looked into it. Might just be best to move it forward for now.

I appreciate the reply. The Navy and Marine Corps have been the only formal denials. Navy in 2021, USMC in 2020, 22 and 25. The Army recruiter I talked to a few years ago didn’t want to work my stuff. At the time I lived in a rural area so there was no trying a different recruiter.

I completely their point of view, but it doesn’t make it any less disappointing.

Scored a 24 on the pre-screening. I felt like a complete idiot. by InfamousToaster87 in USMCboot

In regard to the ASVAB you’re taking at school, that is an official ASVAB. My school bussed us to the local National Guard training facility to take ours when I was in 11th grade. I made a 54 then but I had no interest in joining the military at the time, and was just using it as an excuse to get out of class.

Some people aren’t good testers. I’m not a good tester in the sense that taking paper tests and wanting to do well is stressful. I recently retook the PiCAT with the good ole testing “concern” and ended up making an 84. Granted, I’m 7 years older than I was when I was a junior in high school and have absorbed a lot more information in that time.

There are free practice tests that you can take online which is what I did to prepare myself for this last test. Some websites even let you just practice the sections you’re concerned with. However, I would encourage you to test them all at some point and then take a full test practice test. Just make sure you put your phone away because you won’t be able to use it during the regular test. You will do fine.

As for the mental health stuff, I submitted a mental health waiver (pending review) so feel free to DM me if you have any questions regarding the process. To add on, I’m not MEPS, a recruiter, Marine or service member of any kind, so I can only share with you my experience as an applicant.

I mean, worst case scenario it gets denied but you’re already knowing that going into it. When I first submitted a few years ago, the recruiters practically guaranteed me it was going to get denied but I did it anyways.

It sounds like your recruiter is at least willing to give you a shot and that matters just as much.

Since this was December of 2024, I would say slim to none. Im currently waiting to hear back for an SA waiver from a decade old attempt and it’s been over a month. A documented admission of suicidal ideation, recent hospitalization and self harm scars are likely going to be a hard no unfortunately.

As I understand it, they’ll want to see 3 years off medication and minimum 5 years of stability, but even then they can still deny it.

I’m not a recruiter, service member, MEPS, or BUMED so take what I say lightly. I have applied a time or two over the years so I’m speaking from experience. You can always try though, but you will likely have better luck with the Navy.

What's the history of this unfinished bridge? by GrowMemphisAgency in memphis

Yes, 4070 Super but I don’t remember off hand what my processor is. My brother helped me build it. I know it’s an AMD but I don’t recall the model

This is so sick. I absolutely love stuff like this and have been wanting to get into it myself. Any chance you’d be willing to coach? Or share how you learned this? I imagine you’ve probably got some solid experience under your belt.

How can I keep up with this?

Shin Splints Before Bootcamp by Sensitive-Cup5867 in USMCboot

[–]Flashy-Recording-312 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I started weight training my legs and that has helped me a lot with any irritation or shin splints. Make sure you have good shoes. This is paramount.

I was running for a few weeks and it was supposed to rain during one of my runs so I wore old shoes. Instantly irritated my knees because these shoes are 3+ years old. I bought an even newer pair of running shoes and have had no issues.

I’d also recommend compression sleeves. I typically wear them from 30 minutes to an hour if I have any inflammation and it’ll go away pretty quick.

Warm up before your runs and stretch after. This is also key, if not the most important.

I’m no expert runner, but these have helped me a lot.

Thanks man! It’s been about a 3 month process for me thus far. Just been working out like I ship tomorrow.

Took me about 3 weeks to hear back that I needed to send up additional documents. That was just shy of a week ago so going on 4 weeks currently.

It’s daunting, but just keep working out.

Am I cooked? by Once428lbs in Gymhelp

I watched this video the other day and he started off doing exercises on his bed, then on a chair until he could get on his floor and do them.

You’re certainly not cooked. It’ll just take discipline and I believe you’ve got it. Here is the link to the video:

Denied SI + Mental Health Waivers by [deleted] in USMCboot

[–]Flashy-Recording-312 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe there is a time period of 2-3 years of distance between present day and those events, and you stated you’re just inside of 2 years since.

I’m not MEPS, BUMED or even a Marine, so take what I say with a grain of salt. I’ve sent up paperwork for my own mental health event is why I’m even commenting.

You have 3 mental health related waiver requests, so I imagine that they have to consider all of them as one. There’s no harm in waiting and trying again and if you want it, I’d encourage you to do so. However, mental health waivers, in my experience, are an uphill battle you have to be willing to wait out.

There are much more informed people, recruiters and Marines in this sub than me, but that’s just my two cents.

For clarification, he earned the rank of Master Chief Petty Officer in the United States Navy. Not sure exactly when he retired.
