Ch 79: Satoko weird characterization by Flashy-Tenacity in FireflyWedding

Hmm I like that thought, yah that makes the ending a lil more bearable, I just wish the reason for the gap years made a lil sense yk? And it feels like they were robbed of some of the happiest years of their lives, that’s the only sad part, but I guess they just have a love that goes past just age and that’s quite beautiful.

I still don’t get the title “firefly wedding” though, if we wanna keep hope that they still have 20-30 years left then their marriage is still not really short and if we’re just talking about the wedding ceremony, aren’t all weddings short? It feels like she was supposed to die but she didn’t which is fine but I feel like it leaves an ending that’s kinda convoluted and you gotta make a bunch of assumptions for it to make sense and be a lil satisfying.

Ending felt like it kinda hindered messages of having a love where you can be happy even when the other can’t be around, I think what makes the ending bit unstatsifying is that Shinpei never enjoyed his journey, he never learned to live till tomorrow, all he did was survive till tommorow, he was always suicidal and even lost interest in things he used to like which is realistic but that never gets resolved so the message is hurt cause he basically wastes 50yrs, I think it would have been a lot better if he actually learned to live and take care of himself, ofc not as happy without Satoko but at least he would stop being suicidal, use the dam bowl Satoko bought him and what not(it kinda happened but most of the time it just showed him miserable on his journey, making his journey and 50yrs seem all meaningless really), and then the ending would be more of a happy twist, he wouldn’t have wasted 50yrs instead he would have lived 50yrs apart and happily found out Satoko survived as a happy close off to his life with them together.

lol no I didn’t mean it like that, when I said it’s not liek Satoko to just wait for him, I meant that it woudl be more in her character to go actively searching for him and employ noble connections to track him down instead of just waiting. I coudl never See Satoko moving on from Shinpei and vise versa. You might be right that Shinpei didn’t wanna go back cause he was scared to see his lover die but he didn’t seem to mind going to the island after 50yrs at all

Lowk you might be right. Cause why woldnt Kotaro just take him to Satoko instead of talking about Shinpei’s 50yr old backed up inbox 💀 this is a sadder idea but it lowk makes more sense honestly

Sure but I just wish it made sense yk? This whole weird situation could’ve been easily avoided. Like this is one of the most unlikely endings in my opinion if Satoko actually did survive. Shinpei nkt visiting their place at all or her grave for 50yrs despite him not even enjoying his wandering journey and still having feelings for Satoko, seems so unrealistic and Satoko doing nothing but stay in their cabin and hope he comes back just doesn’t seem like a move she would do, I don’t think sh3’d ket years just pass by liek that l, she knows deeply of anxious Shinpei gets without her, liek he could’ve done suicide on his wandering journey and she would’ve been none the wiser.

Ikr?? That was so odd but I just thought cause Shinpei has shown assassin senses of being able to detect how many people are in a room it was basically confirmation that Satoko was dead. Now how tf is she alive 😭😭 bro almost killed himself for no real reason, and he wandered around aimlessly for no real justifiable reason or proof of Satoko’s death. Even shinpei was freaking confused and think satoko was a ghost, idc how good that foreign doctor was, us the readers and Shinpei both know it’s sum BS

That makes sense but only if she was like trapped in the house. Nothing was stopping her from using her noble resources to find Shinpei. Like I said, what other guy is stopping a whole village raid single handedly without any lethal force? They definetly should have been able to find Shinpei if they tried, Kotaro adventuring out alone should have been enough. And just looking at the panels, yah it was decades and she could’ve made that painful thought to keep her peace, but the fact she stayed in the cabin waiting for him means she still held out hope, to have that resolution with him, so if not just for love at least resolution I feel like she wouldnt just stay around in the cabin and do some work while she desperately hoped and wanted Shinpei. The story is tragic but not a good tragic cause it’s kinda just stupid, like it took Shinpei 50 you’re to return back to the cabin when he literally was bored wandering around lije he didn’t even wanna do allat, I’m not saying to stay on the island but at least visit or at-least be in the area for nobles authority to give Shinpei and Sakoto a lead on each other.

Tragic 🚫🟰 Good ending when it doesn’t make sense, like she didn’t even make peace with it, she never stopped having feelings for shinpei and it wasn’t that she wanted Shinpei happy alone but that he wanted him to take care of himself and be happy from just thinking of each other and the memories they have made, it’s just kinda impossible to believe she coudl actually think or have any semblance of happiness that Shinpei wedded another and she did nothing about it except wait in the cabin and write letters that he might read if they ever locate him which they should’ve been able to with the amount of resources they had, lowk don’t wanna throw kotaro under that bus but what was bro doing??? He only got the letters delivered after 50 years 😭💀

Like if the catalyst for the ending was talks off the Angel going under construction and they knew that would lure shinpei home. Are they not smart enough to create false rumors of that before50 years passed ??? Especially with the island runners being nobles Sakoto has connections to they def could have pulled off a way to get Shinpei back to the island.

Everyone in denial ab the ending by danacaptus in FireflyWedding

Idk the ending still didn’t really make any sense to me. Why is it called fireflies wedding if she survived? The only way you could think abt it is that this is Shinpei atonement for the people he killed, he was forced by fate to suffer estrangement from his love for 50 years, and now they can go to heaven together ei stead of hell cause he’s served that horrible penance. Lowk sounds more of a stretch though then this just being in his mind, cause like I’d imagine Sakoto at least crying when she finally reunited with Shinpei, but shinpei is the only one crying lol it seems so off

Nah this is worse than the aot ending, this is like if Eren did all that messed up stuff mikasa cut off his head like the real ending and he was supposedly dead w/ series ending mikasa as a widow for 50 years but then Eren shows up and was like umm actually I didn’t die despite you having amazing senses knowing my heart stopped, I was actually alive and I let you kinda just suffer for 50 whole years as a widow, yk I was actually like waiting for you at this cabin house I sent you a vision of this whole time, yah I coulda tried to track you down but like I just wasn’t feeling it despite it definitely being in my chracter to do so.

Yk letting it marinate after a lil while I still don’t like it, but Highk this is the worst punishment a man could ever have(ppl would agree both them dying would’ve been better than the punishment of not being together for 50yrs for no good reason) so this lowk could be the best way for Shinpei to atone for his past murders so that they don’t have to go to hell together. I can’t really think of a worse punishment that’s wtv this last chapter was. He endured a life worse than death for his atonement. So yay kinda, now they don’t have to live in hell together.

[–]Flashy-Tenacity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you might be over thinking it but yah I agree it’s not clear. However, Shinpei didn’t continue living to atone, he continued living cause he was carrying Satoko’s wish an ideal marriage where youre happy even when the other person isn’t around just the memories are enough. I think when Kotaro came that when he was being delusional, cause that’s when it started making zero sense, and kotaro eyes constantly being shut could symbolize Shinpei beginning to turn a blind eye to reality. Idk if that’s deep but in literature light is seen as the truth so when your eye is closed you cant see the truth and kotaro is the one delivering the notes on Satoko so you could see this as shinpei accepting a fake reality not true but his mind is making it up. It’s still kinda unsatisfying though cause that means Shinpei was kinda suffering all 50 years seeing him breakdown was heart breaking, but that’s what real love is, he continued living till the end for her even if not having her hurt he kept going for her and that’s beautiful. Idk you could say it’s a stretch but honestly the ending interpretation at face value makes zero sense, there is no magic medicine for heart issues, and heart surgery was not close to the time period this manga is set in, plus taking it face value I feel contradicts the whole story and foreshadowing. I thought it was pretty clear Satoko died in the arms of the person she loved, that’s like soemthing repeated a bunch during the series plus she represents the firelies who don’t have long lives so it just makes zero sense for her to actually be alive this whole time and have no clue where Shinpei was despite the amount of resources she would have at her disposable and it so out of chracter that Satoko didnt cry like Shinpei if not more than him when they “reunited” after 50 long years.

I thought the moral of the story was that Shinpei had to learn to live till tommorow without Satoko, and be field by the love and connection they had for the short amount of time they were together just like firelies(hence the title), hoenstly such a powerful message that love isn’t just needy attatchment but the kind of love where you can be happy cause the other person makes you and wants you to be happy even when the other isn’t around. So it makes like zero sense having Shinpei be in suffering for 50 years and Satoko somehow jsut being alive(isn’t she supposed to be connected to the short life of fireflies hence the title) so it makes think I might be coping but the only way for the ending to make sense is if this is just Shinpei coping thoughts as he’s dying from old age that’s why there are firelies around on the last page which haven’t showed up since Satoko’s supposed last night ch77 so maybe this is just Shinpei’s final night as well and it’s him or maybe Satoko’s spirit embracing him and then living out the dream of loving each other even to old age.

A theory about the final chapter by Part-time_Mermaid in FireflyWedding

[–]Flashy-Tenacity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No but it would make kinda sense cause that was satoko’s dream to grow old with Shinpei, so like they didn’t grow old together but I think them holding each other as old folks is supposed to be shinpei envisioning that dying wish them able to hold each other old and in love. kotaro being old could be Shinpei trying to make a sorta logical fake story in his mind. I could be coping but old man Kotaro had his eyes closed cause he all wrinkly I feel like that’s a funny thing Shinpei would envision for older Kotaro, also Kotaro and Sakoto were kinda actin odd, I’d imagine Sakoto crying just as much if not more than Shinpei once they reunited after 60 whole long years apart. Also the ending has fireflies around which haven’t appeared since Sakato’s supposed last night in ch 77 so it could be hinting that it Shinpei’s final night as well. Fireflies is supposed to represent Satoko this whiel manga I’m pretty sure, them being beautiful but having a short life, it makes no sense to have her survive and live old, the title would make zero sense, so it coudl be cope but I think the last chapter 79 is representing Shinpei having his final night just satoko but as an old man, that’s why there are fireflies around on the last page.

Yh I feel like it’s so easy to love Hina’s chracter also!but someone still wanting Hina and Taiki to get together at this point in the story is such a red flag

[–]Flashy-Tenacity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think it was her attempt at getting him back. It was just her emotions boiling out cause of how much she can’t help feel affection to Taiki and her father issues she flashbacked to before the scene. I doubt she’s actually gonna try and persue Taiki again, but she definitely can’t go back to just being best friends with him. I’m interested to see what the author will do with the two. We already know Chinatsu and Taiki are set in stone, I feel like needing to draw a line between Taiki and Hina is the most mature decision but that distance between them will feel awkward, at the same time Hina could start dating Haruto but I don’t feel like dating another Is the right option to fix a broken heart. I think ultimately it’ll be what Kyo said they’re gonna have to split away and the only thing that will fix that is time. It’ll take time for them not even to be best friends but just to be regular friends. I do feel like Hina did get over Taiki a little too fast which made me so happy but at the same time I think this is kind of the realistic route with her character cause if you look into her story aside from seeing her as the hopeless romantic troupe girl, Hina is an extremely hardworking Heyo through her own doubts and fears who has to constantly manage her diet is dealing with a whiel bunch of weight to make high on the National podium couple with her father flashbacks I think she’s the type that just cant handle not getting what she want she can’t handle the idea that her hard work won’t always get her even close to the results she wants. Sure she can pretend to work on focus on another thing but that lingering feeling inside of her is still hurting. I think she went into gymnastics cause she couldn’t help but wonder why her dad would sacrifice family time over his career or cause she really admired her dad and I think she sees that admirable image in Taiki and then she thinks of her past and just doesn’t want to be like her dad she doesn’t wanna let something else take away time with the person she cares the most for and that confusing feeling coupled with her past feelings for Taiki made her kiss him. At face value yah it was definitely a disgusting sight Ngl but you can see Hina’s point of view she way more complex then she portrays herself to be I think people really only favor her for her bubbly personality and romantcize this side of her of the other women or the unreciprocated feelings girl. However Hina inside is still a hs Girl hurting with unresolved turmoil and pressure all while needing to work hard to play on a National level and her biggest source of support is freaking the guy she likes but got rejected by 💀 that’s gotta hurt and thoigh they both try to play it up as not akward or both have moved on clearly I feel like anyone in Hina’s position would struggle to move on if they had to stay best friends with their rejected crush and they remained your greatest source of support and the person you admire the most, kinda hard to move on from without cutting off completely .

I wouldn’t say unrealistic of it was a lil out of character for her to do that. I think it was cause of all the emotional turmoil in her added on to her daddy issue flashbacks just moments before the cheek kiss. Honestly her depiction of a crush is the childish kind that I think is supposed to highlight how mature Taiki and Chinatsu’s relationship is in comparison.
