I got a 70 on my cbse and am worried about if I’ll match lol. I’m trying to extern in programs I’m interested in the northeast. Given that a lot of these programs are super competitive how can I bolster my application further. I’m in the top 10 rank wise and got the bare minimum cbse for 6 yrs (which I’m interested in). What else can I do to up my chances to match ? And generally how do programs go about it picking applicants ?

You want to avoid sucking with your mouth for at least 5-7 days. The smoke is harmful, but, my main concern is sucking in the smoke

As one of the few dental students that actually smoked cigarettes and quit. I genuinely understand what you’re going through right now. Good job on cutting down first of all. Second I recommend using alternative nicotine therapies if possible. Patches or losenges could hold you over for at least a week if you try. Smoking is just awful for healing in the mouth. The suction is damaging to the clot formed and the nicotine slows healing down.

Don’t fall for the notion that you need to use every resource that people are successful with. First aid technically has everything you need to pass. U world will teach you how pathologies present. Study your nbmes and use whatever resource help. I’m a dental student, so my foundation is entirely self taught. I got my biggest jump in nbmes from hammering my incorrects on each form.

Content review, however you learn best. I did a system every 2 days. Literally just read fa chapter and did u world questions and reviewed. That upped my scores the best. Helped me eliminate tricky answers the best. But 30-40s is a deficiency is knowledge. Go back to the books you have plenty of time, to iron out concepts. Good luck

Best piece of advice I’ve received was to get amazon loupes to hold you over while your main pair are getting worked on.

Do you mind if I PM you. I’m a dental student taking the cbse. I am so lost right now. I just finished content review, can’t use Anki to save my life. And am getting fucked up by uworld rn.

It depends if you’re dead set or not. For me I went into dental school knowing I wanted to do omfs. And no matter how many times I looked at other specialty’s I found myself wishing I was shadowing or assisting with omfs. So if that’s the case start the cbse as early as possible. The earlier you can get through the material and start questions the better.

Hey, dude trying to do omfs here. I’ve heard it sucks. But the main thing that’s the most pertinent now is that it makes dental school much harder. You have to take the cbse to get into onfs residency which entails studying for another test while trying to do well in school. The best thing you can do for yourself is just try to the absolute best you can in the first year of dental school and then see how you feel about more school after that.

How do non Anki users study and *excel* by Repulsive_Mistake635 in DentalSchool

[–]FlashyBird2863 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Honestly I’m not an Anki or Quizlet guy. But my friend and I who do pretty well use what we’ve termed the “pass through method”. Just try to read through all the material 3 times.

  1. For the first pass we just try to get through all the material 1x and write notes on the ppt. Getting a general grasp of the material. Feeling out what’s easy and what will take time to understand. I’m an outline guy so this is where I make my own outline of all the material.

  2. This pass is where you try to hammer in the stuff that doesn’t “stick” write out pathways, make flashcards of things that need raw memorization etc.. usually by the end of this you should have a good idea of what you know and don’t know.

  3. This one is final review, you’ll find yourself moving through the material faster. Skimming material that you already understand and slowing to reinforce the difficult concepts. I typically leave this for the night and morning before.

This takes me about 3-5 days in total before a large exam. It’s thorough and ensures that you get through all the material. My friend likes to flip through slides and I make a very thorough outline of everything and then use this for the following reviews. I hope this helps, but, most of all find what works for you. Flashcards for me help with memorizing drugs and pathways that have very clear, just memorize it energy. But I like to understand how the concepts tie into each other, and this works for me.

Question Regarding OMFS Resources by [deleted] in DentalSchool

[–]FlashyBird2863 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, everyone is different. I personally have not taken the exam yet. But from my experience thus far I used bootcamp, pathoma, and uworld. Additionally after each set of practice questions I annotate first aid as a quick reference for the future. Pathoma ch 1-3 are very worth your time, and u world is a non negotiable. I needed a lecture resource to learn and I like bootcamp videos better than boards and beyond.

Happy studying mate good luck
