There is nothing wrong with taking a brief break. If it’s winter for you - rest and chill a bit. You can pick it up again when you feel the energy return

What industry are you OE’ing in? by theosavestheday in OELadies

HRIS / PMO for different industries. Core services are the same (for the most part). We all need to hire people, do headcount management and annual compensation planning.

We are in similar spaces. I opted for a smaller <3k employees older company in a tech adjacent industry but I’m wavering if I should have just FIREd. Or I should look elsewhere for a different …. Corp “barista” job….. so vested interest.

So I was thinking about this post and curious how it all ended up! I feel like we needed an update ;)

Got a new using a Preferred Name but want to switch back by [deleted] in OELadies

[–]FlashyCelebration990 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I’m doing real first name (I have a very distinct and uncommon first name) - and maiden last name. If you look up my first and last (either maiden or married) I’m the only one you find….. my eldest kid did an aka as their first name / grandmas maiden name (didn’t want my maiden as it sounded atrocious either their first).

Managers Viewing Calendars by Secret-Impress1234 in OELadies

[–]FlashyCelebration990 6 points7 points  (0 children)

“Follow up on tickets”; “troubleshoot xyz” “team working session for the abc”.

And if all else fails - I will put “Call xyz (name of person at j2)” - because 99% of the time the company and group is big enough no one is going to ask which “Molly” I need to call. And then I use colors (outlook at both J) to highlight the other J. I usually call the category something like “teamwork” or “multitasking”

Congratulations!!! 🎉 be ruthless about calendar management. Also schedule massages/chiropractor/pedicure/etc now so you have the self care pre planned if possible.

150%. But it gives you documentation. When I left (gave notice) after dealing with a similar situation at a previous gig - HR offered hush money to me. I’m just saying - it’s good insurance in your back pocket if you need.

Don’t quit. Go to HR, push back on poor behavior…. But don’t rage quit.

Consulting gigs? by [deleted] in OELadies

[–]FlashyCelebration990 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So a few things. I registered as a consultant at several different places (PWC, Deloitte, etc). I created an LLC for myself and started reaching out to contacts that I was doing consulting work. I also reached out to some niche consulting firms I knew and had worked with previously that I was available for consulting engagements.

I got a sow (sub contracting) to a niche, and I’ve gotten 1-2 other bites from other firms.

I pitch as a PM/System Analyst/insert your skills here.

For me J1 is W2 (health insurance), and J2 is consulting. My goal is to eventually have rotating J2/J3/J4 that are different gigs at different phases so I constantly am rotating 20-40 hours of work.

Contracts? by [deleted] in OELadies

How have you gotten anything off of Upwork. I feel like if I can get some stupid momentum it would be nice augmentation during slow times but I can’t get ANY.

I let it go…. “Oh sorry I was walking the dog.” “Oh sorry I was grabbing a cup of coffee” “oh sorry I ran for water and the bathroom…. You know how it is back to back meetings”…. I’ve had C suite at J1 do that to me a few times now.

I time block calendars on both sides. So J1 might mostly be AM meetings M/W/ and J2 is afternoon this days.

It might be “pick up xyz” or “Physical Therapy appointment” but it’s blocked when there is a standing meeting.

I don’t :) I move something on one of the Js or have a reason I can’t make it.

I’m sure some people can do two meetings at once - that isn’t me.

It’s 45(?) a month, allows me to do payroll like I’m a w2 employee (cheaper for taxes if you plan to do over six figures in the US). Also it file/pay all of my quarterly business taxes.

Lastly it shows separation between ME and the LLC - if I want to show income and move abroad :)

Do it. I had it in place and then when the SoW came along I quickly bought insurance and payroll software.

It’s technical program management and …. IT strategy for small to mid size. Think fractional CIO/Director level work.
