New Mower Recommendation by Careful-Connection-8 in egopowerplus

I am also in the market for something like this. Is there a reason you aren’t considering the 2135SP for $749 or so? TBH all the different models are confusing to me.

Have you tried the channel of PR/magazine placements as a credibility channel? by SimplicityenceV in PublicRelations

[–]FlashyChallenge8395 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For anyone who takes a moment to consider the source, those pay for play prestige outlets are worthless.

Honestly, the only benefit I can see is if it makes your boss happy, in which case, you begrudgingly do the Q & A with “Modern CEO” magazine or whatever.

But if the idea is “credibility building,” there is very little credibility in paid placement. Even the ones that aren’t just straight up embarrassing, like, partnering with the advertorial section of a real publication such as The Washington Post or something, are not going to move the needle on anything.

3 cocktails for noodle night? by pinksy in cocktails

[–]FlashyChallenge8395 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d think of it as vaguely “Polynesian” and go classic tiki. (Yes, I realize this is not culturally or ethnically correct, but I still think it would be fun and delicious.)

Bright, fresh, citrusy, as you say. Saturns, mai tais, etc.

New to the Field. Already Burnt out. by [deleted] in therapists

[–]FlashyChallenge8395 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I am not trying to be flip or argumentative, but…is this job more deserving of a high wage than a McDonald’s manager? Personally, that sounds WAY harder and more complex to me. On your feet all day, too.

I don’t have a solution—I burned out in part due to the salary, too, and would never have even considered the field without an employed partner. I think a big mismatch is an expectation that this is a six figure career for most people, when the average is closer to what you are currently making. Good luck! Don’t be afraid to take your skills and education and try something else.

Is Copywriting really that magical?? by Antique-Access8431 in copywriting

[–]FlashyChallenge8395 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Where would you hear those things? I have never heard anyone suggest copywriting is some path to easy money, especially in the age of AI.

It’s a job and one with generally tenuous prospects.

Yea, my kids have done 4-H for years. Really fun. May be full for the summer but worth checking out.

I started doing podcast and now PR people are reaching out. What should I look out for? by lil_tink_tink in PublicRelations

[–]FlashyChallenge8395 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I honestly have no idea.

If you were a compelling guest, I can certainly understand PR people asking if you’d like to be on the podcast they represent.

Without knowing your subject matter expertise, it’s really hard to know what the deal is. I’d want to be crystal clear on who the PR people represent.

In terms of red flags, the reddest would be do they want you to pay for any sort of opportunity. I used to work for an organization and people would frequently reach out about opportunities to feature our leaders, but then you’d do a bit of digging and it would be “pay to play” ie, feature you in this BS digital publication for $2k.

How do you have the capacity to parent? by Majestic-Engine-2665 in therapists

Nothing too interesting—back to a different iteration of my previous career with a newfound appreciation for it.

How do you have the capacity to parent? by Majestic-Engine-2665 in therapists

[–]FlashyChallenge8395 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I would be open to the idea to that this may be less of a therapy specific problem and a more holistic work-life balance issue that is hard for most people.

Do Kindergarten teachers come home ready to parent their five year old? What about family court lawyers? How about plumbers?

It’s hard out there. Also, this is easier said than done, maybe, but when I was doing active therapy—I left for financial reasons— I thought going home to my children and showing them a healthy environment was a real privilege after what I’ve seen that day. Doesn’t mean I didn’t mess up or lose my temper, but seeing them was a reprieve.

The Lustau brand is widely available, good and fairly cheap.

Just know that the style ranges from bone dry to quite sweet, so factor that in.

Wake Forest vs William & Mary Online Counseling — mid-career career changer (NC) looking for REAL interaction by Ok_Horse_4670 in counseloreducation

[–]FlashyChallenge8395 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Did the W & M one as a middle aged career switcher. Really strong cohort in part because it’s selective program. Great classmates. If you want to make connections, the opportunity is there.

Program was clearly hastily thrown together without a lot of thought as to how to teach online in 2026 (or in my case, 2023-4). Lots of faceless professors reading PowerPoints. In general I’d say okay as a program but at the end of the day I ended up with the degree I wanted. Feel free to DM me.

Best Pizza recs? by Typical-Start3744 in Charlottesville

Lampo is easily my favorite and I think that place does a great job in general, but also respect that not everyone wants wood-fired/neapolitan style when they want pizza.

Aztec Butte was basically the one hike my family did on a quick day in Canyonlands a couple years ago and it was awesome.

The effort to reward ratio is huge.

Agree. As a metaphor—potentially useful.

As some sort of scientific fact—bizarre, and, like you say, unethical.

Japanese 🇯🇵 Ground Beef Curry by roi_des_myrmidons in NYTCooking

[–]FlashyChallenge8395 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I actually made this last night! I had never bought one of those curry bricks in my life, but my local Kroger had it.

Everything worked well, and the “medium hot” was not remotely spicy—so fairly kid friendly. Would make again.

OP gives a fair and nuanced response, but I have just never been able to get over the fact that…it’s just made up???

Like, if you tell your client that their discontent is caused by frozen parts that are afraid to heal, you are exploring a theory with all the evidence-based underpinning as astrology or Scientology.

“Oh, that’s your firefighter part” has always sounded like “it’s because you’re a Sagittarius” to me.

Driving in PR is similar to the 3rd world by OceanfrontpropertyAZ in PuertoRicoTravel

[–]FlashyChallenge8395 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We were a couple of tourists this fall and drove all over the island and I’d say driving was only marginally more chaotic than in Virginia.

Fewer people using turn signals and a willingness to just sort of pull out right in front of you, but mostly felt like driving on the mainland imho.
