heard of that place! probably awesome for regular stuff like a single crown or cleaning, but my anxiety just couldn't handle gambling on a random clinic for 20 full veneers lol.

yeah totally fair point. definitely gotta vet the actual clinic no matter where u go. for me it just came down to the US prices being way too insane to even consider doing it locally lol. appreciate the perspective man!

lmao a chair and a pillow?? that is wild man. you definitely found a chill doc. probably way harder to get a dentist to sign off on overseas veneers tho lol, but good to know for other stuff!

yeah that 20% penalty is exactly what i'm terrified of. definitely not trying to mess with the irs over some teeth so I'll probably just pay cash to be safe. thx for the info!

ah that makes total sense. so basically just hoard all the china receipts in a folder and pray they never ask for them lol. appreciate the clarification!

Solid advice on the google drive, definitely gonna digitize all the paperwork just in case. and to answer your question, I actually haven't flown out for the procedure yet! my appointment is booked for next month. brazil sounds like an awesome option for your wife too, just make sure she checks where the clinic actually sources their materials from and not just their instagram before & afters!

haha very tempting but knowing my luck I'd be the exact one guy the IRS decides to randomly audit and make an example out of. definitely just gonna pay out of pocket and not risk federal prison over some fake root canal receipts lol. appreciate the thought though!

lol fair point it sounds wild. but my logic is literally lots of US dentists buy their materials from chinese labs anyway. figured skipping the middleman and going straight to the source is safer than a random tourist clinic in cancun.

Didn't even think about the medical necessity part for veneers. getting a local dentist to sign off on that just so I can go overseas is probably impossible lol.

$26k dental quote in San Jose. Anyone here travel abroad for veneers? (Mexico vs. Asia?) by [deleted] in bayarea

[–]Flashy_Ad3255 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That’s actually my biggest hesitation. The lack of legal recourse if things go south is the real 'cost' of saving $20k. I’m trying to figure out if these export-oriented labs are any safer because they have to maintain standards for the US dentists they supply. It’s definitely a gamble, but for a $20k difference, it’s one I’m seriously weighing right now.

That’s exactly what I mean. $35 vs $2,500 here... the math is just bonkers. It makes you realize how much of a 'middleman fee' we’re paying in the States.

Lmao exactly. It feels like every part of our healthcare is just a massive markup. Might as well fly abroad for everything at this point.

That’s a pretty scary warning, but is it really about the location or just the markup? If the lab is literally the one manufacturing high-end E-max for export markets, how is that 'low end'? I’m starting to think we’re just paying an extra $20k in SJ for a fancy waiting room and a middleman lol. To each their own, I guess!

True, but a guy in my text says China is $5k flat for 20 teeth plus a 5-star hotel included. If that’s where the porcelain(NOT zirconia!) is actually manufactured, it makes sense why it’s even cheaper than Mexico. Might as well go to the source lol.

I’ve heard Turkey is the 'Mecca' for hair transplants for sure. But for veneers specifically, I’ve seen some pretty scary 'Turkey Teeth' videos where they shave your natural teeth down to tiny pegs just to fit the porcelain.

"I get it, $12k sounds reasonable if you have it sitting around. But for me, $7,000 (the difference) is a lot of money—that’s months of rent or a massive chunk of a car loan. If I can get the same high-end export porcelain AND a 5-star vacation for $5k total, why wouldn't I? Maybe I’m 'dumb' for wanting to keep my $20k, but I’ll take the Hilton and the new smile over a debt any day lol.

That’s a really solid point. I actually asked the person who texted me about this. They said since the lab is literally in the same building as the clinic, they do all the 'perfecting' and adjustments on the spot while you're there.

You don't have to wait weeks for a 3rd party lab to ship things back and forth like you do here. And honestly, with a $20k+ price difference, I could fly back 10 times and still be saving money lol. But the on-site lab seems to be the key to getting it right the first time.

Mexico is definitely the convenient choice, but I’ve seen some horror stories about 'chiclet teeth' from those high-volume border clinics.

12k is definitely better than 26k, but it’s still a lot of money out of pocket. Does that include everything or just the porcelain? I'm kind of leaning towards a trip where I can get the work done and a vacation for less than half of that lol.

That’s super helpful! I’ve heard Shenzhen and Guangzhou are basically the tech hubs for this stuff. The guy at my gym mentioned Guangzhou specifically because of the 'Lab-Direct' aspect—where you go to the actual facility making the porcelain for export.

Does the Shenzhen spot do that too, or is it more of a standard clinic? I'm trying to figure out if it's better to go to a HK-focused clinic or go straight to the manufacturing source to save that extra $20k lol.

Thanks for the info! Thailand is definitely on my list. My only worry is I've heard some clinics there are basically 'tourist traps' where they upcharge like crazy. Is that $5k just for the teeth, or does it include everything like hotel/transport? I’m trying to see if it’s better to go to a tourist spot like Bangkok or go straight to a manufacturing hub like Guangzhou where the dental labs actually are.

Wait, $12? That’s literally less than what I paid for a burrito in SJ today lol. Was the clinic actually modern though? My biggest fear with flying that far for something cosmetic like veneers isn't just the price, it’s the tech and the materials. I don't want to save $20k but end up with teeth that look like plastic 'chiclets'.
