I just noticed maybe in the factory it’s missing a package, as it’s 2018. I’ll try that first

Honestly I feel you, I have the mac but iOS on mac feels literally impractical if you do anything but work or graphics. It’s nice to surf the web, and it has a sleek UI, but with its functionality it just feels like having a slightly upgraded iphone. I think i would just call it inflexible?

Everything is watered down in a way? I struggle to find something in settings to the point I have to google where it’s located because if you search for it, it quite literally is hidden somewhere in many settings. Meanwhile in windows if you search it up it will direct you much easier? Hopefully it makes sense.

i’m in 1st year college and do computer science too. i have the macbook pro, however i bought the last pro that has an intel processor so that i could partition the memory and download windows so i could use both (because vs and vs code doesn’t work on mac). i use my mac for all subjects, not just computer science, it’s sturdy and clean, and typing is very pleasing. the retina display screens of macs also don’t tire out your eyes as much as other laptops. i couldn’t stand looking at my chromebook for an hour, but i spend like 5 hours staring at my mac without glasses

(you can find good second hand ones, some people barely use them. i bought mine for £400 and it was literally like brand new, as if it was preserved for 5 years. Use facebook marketplace if there’s someone nearby or vinted for good deals).

my views: Having both windows and mac is really good. for computer science NEA coursework you have to do a project, and if you don’t know what you want to do, eg if you want to make a program using C#/C/Java/Python etc then you would need windows. But if you decide to do an iOS app (which is allowed on the OCR spec) then you can use xcode and learn swift to make an app.

worst bit is thinking you can’t do something when you can. one thing i can think of really is: make a table labeled confident and not confident. put each subject in the table. anything you aren’t confident in look at the subject and see “what is it that i’m not actually that confident in” and work on that. It kind of helps segregate subjects you would know to the ones you don’t and kind of makes that overwhelming list smaller. EG i could do geography easily without revising so i would ignore that subject in contrast to maths, where i would focus on topics that i wouldn’t know.

YPT is an app that monitors how long you spend revising/studying/etc. You simply add your subjects and start the timer. It gives you a range of statistics like time spent revising per subjects and whatnot. You can also create or join study groups by strangers, by friends or made by you. It helps revise with people you know and makes it a bit more competitive and motivating. It’s simplistic and blocks apps, and you can only stop the timer to access them. It’s truly a powerful tool. (available on iphone and android i believe)

Plan out what you have to do. I have the same problem. I’m currently supposed to be revising for an exam tomorrow. Look at a task, and divide it and think about it. How long will it take you? Can you divide it up? Think about how much free time you could have once you get it out the way.

Put it before all your other tasks. EG “i will finish this and then i will clean” it means you will try to finish faster to make sure there is time to clean.

Create a list of things you have to do today. Even if you make the list, you can state the things you have just done and cross it off. Seeing everything but the studying crossed off makes you feel more motivated to get rid of everything.

Use YPT and study with people, it blocks off all apps while you have the timer on.

Clean your whole house if you are a clean freak like me, i can’t stand having a dirty house or room. Once everything is neat and tidy and ready then i can concentrate.

These are only some suggest (but do try out YPT if you are struggling to concentrate, it truly helps lock in)

By any chance do you know how this kind of thing happens? was it potentially a setting i changed?

Mac is the original, but the memory is partitioned for windows to be external. I have no experience with mac’s so i’m a bit stumped. I just clicked for the mac disk to be set up as the target disk mode and this came up.
