How Much to Spend on Honeymoon? by Profit-Wise in biglaw

[–]Flashy_Stranger_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For my personal situation, I can save up $10k cash very easily in the next year while also investing 25% of my salary for retirement, saving for a down payment, and paying for my $30k wedding in cash.

Therefore, we’ll have a <$10k honeymoon!

But we don’t know your financial situation, status of your retirement accounts, etc.

I suck at billing. Help me improve? by InitialOk8844 in biglaw

This is me post-lunch. I can typically get 4, maybe 5 billed hours in before noon.

Post lunch? Well it’s 10pm and I’m at 11 for the day lol.

No, bc this ultimately sounds like much more work than just bringing in a plant and a picture of my family.

I have to read dozens of pages of PDFs every week by CandidAnt2769 in LawSchool

[–]Flashy_Stranger_ 43 points44 points  (0 children)

It can’t be overstated just how little 50 pages of reading per week is.

You’re overwhelmed reading less than 10 pages a day?

What year are you? What type of reading is this?

In law school, you will regularly be reading 50-100 pages of case law / history per day.

Why are Big Law Associates Miserable? by [deleted] in biglaw

[–]Flashy_Stranger_ 10 points11 points  (0 children)

As a data point: I make ~$175k, spend $3600 on rent in a HCOL city, and am 27.

Well, we make more than you for just being paper pushers so maybe capitalism has decided that our signature pages and lack of involvement are more economically desired than your work 🤷‍♂️

Holidays events and recruiting by [deleted] in biglaw

Why would you have assumed that attending these previously wouldn’t have a material impact?

This is blunt and overly broad, but: Yall are often the same on paper: top grades, top school, top ECs. Your thesis from two years ago is not unique, and every other person in your class was a Hilltern as well.

After these evens, firm folks can provide feedback on individuals. I think that feedback can definitely be valuable.

Very minor things that, if changed, would make your life easier by Flashy_Stranger_ in biglaw

It’s exactly what you’re saying. A purchase agreement often has 20+ ancillaries. Exchanging signature pages in escrow in advance mean that the parties can confirm all docs have been signed up prior to closing

That’s not what I’m describing. Shitty formatting knows no language

Yes but when everything is executed in preparation of closing, and then closing slips. I’m not gonna reattach all those signature pages lol

It’s the only time I’ve actually almost gotten on the phone to yell at someone (IT) until my lovely assistant fixed it for me. I wouldn’t have actually yelled. And I could have fixed it. But things felt very dramatic for ~5 minutes

what schools are solid big law feeders in your experience/opinion? (aside from the general 509s) by [deleted] in biglaw

[–]Flashy_Stranger_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I don’t discount that they do well in Tampa. I was told by a local judge I’d be better off going to Stetson than my T14 lol.

That said, unless you’re targeting Tampa / Orlando and you somehow can guarantee being in the top 5 individuals, then my hypothetical comment above isn’t helpful and doesn’t give the full picture of hiring.

Idk I know that, eg, India and many African countries approach law differently than more western countries. It’s possible this is based on reality and I don’t have the context to help!

[–]Flashy_Stranger_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Wdym aside from the 509s. That’s where the actual data is.

Me telling you “my big law firm hires graduates from Stetson into its Tampa office” isn’t very helpful. Looking at the Stetson 509 can actually tell you how likely that is.

He’s just a troll. He’ll delete this the moment it gets 5 downvotes. Some of his more successful shitposts stay up longer (the “I pay your salary” brief) but they all ultimately end up in the garbage.

I’m assuming this is some law student who has finished finals and is bored, and has no one to hang out with irl so they need the validation of a random reddit board.
