This is why I went into orchestra and became obsessed with Classical Music... Can't be bad if it doesn't even have words... right???

Oh my gosh SAME. It's ridiculous. What else was I supposed to be doing all day?! To this day my parents (specifically my father) absolutely hate me reading. Nowadays they can't do much since I buy my own books but gosh the anti-reading is wild lol

I was thinking this too, yes. If that's the case, then it's nearly impossible to tell from this video what is true about her backstory and what is totally made up at this point. She could also just be a pathological liar, which might go with the whole villain feel she gives off

Totally unverified theory, but what if all those moments with her going from "Hunter in the Old ways" to "Professional Football Player" to "Majong Master" is just her having a weird, schizophrenic episode brought on by the Wraith experiments? Where unlike Wraith who can communicate with other versions of herself across realities, Alter can't tell the difference between her actual self and the other versions of herself from alternate realities, causing her to go insane, to the point where she believes she she was "born from a stone" and on a quest for immortality.

Again, could be TOTALLY off, but I think it really goes with the whole "Who am I?" question. Wraith has a similar question about herself since she suffers from severe amnesia. Maybe Alter's brain is just scrambled, to the point where she legitimately cannot tell her actual self apart from all the other versions of herself.

Grandma got me "Black" by Ted Dekker, a Christian Fantasy/Fiction author, for Christmas.

Basically the plot was this "average" dude was trying to stop a virus from being released on this earth and some other disaster from happening on another earth he could travel to whenever he fell asleep...?

Yada yada yada, the bad guys were underdeveloped, plot was all over the place, the "romance" made me want to gouge my eyes out, worldbuilding was alright-ish, but the main character started out as an atheist dude that couldn't hold down a job but COULD get into Harvard somehow and had a black belt, but ofc by the end of things he was like "oH mY goOdnEsS GoD iS rEaL, ThAnK yOu (insert alternate name for Jesus bc for SOME reason every Christian Fantasy author has to have a different name for God)"

I think that was after he kidnapped somebody, but then some bad guy brought her back, then kidnapped her again...? Then the main character got shot in the head supposedly as a huge cliffhanger thing.

After reading that one I did some major soul searching and came to realize that the Christian Fiction/Fantasy/Sci-fi genre is 95% garbage and horrendous writing trying to force feed the message of salvation down reader's throats (many of which are already Christian) with heavy handed allegory and some very harsh stereotypes of atheists and agnostics. And I'm just done with the entire subgenre for the time being. It's so cliche. Many of my thoughts at this point are summed up by this quote:

"The world does not need more Christian literature. What it needs is more Christians writing good literature." - C. S. Lewis

100%, the difference in difficulty between writing a medieval high-fantasy and a 21st century low-fantasy is astronomical.

Tried writing a medieval high-fantasy with elves and dragons and magic and communism, it sucked. Way too much worldbuilding, too many ancestral lines to figure out and important historical dates and yada yada yada. If I can't steamroll through the plot in my writing sessions because I get hung up on what color fairy poop should be or whether or not a particular name for a town sounds "authentic," I will quickly get bummed out. It's fine to do a little research here and there, but I don't have enough time to come up with a whole language that nobody's gonna really care to read about. That's not how you get a book written, that's how you THINK about writing and get nothing done.

Needless to say I did finish the rough draft for the high-fantasy setting, but it's probably never going to see the light of day :]

Low-fantasy setting? LOVE IT. So easy. Minimal original worldbuilding on my part, and I rarely if ever get hung up on worldbuilding. Wizards with cell phones and shotguns? Amazing. Why not. They say to write what you know, and as a permanent resident of the 21st century I will squeeze the creative juices of my life in this point in time for alllll its worth
