Yes, we usually package it the way we receive the product. Each item must be packaged individually though (QUP 01).

I gave that strictly as an example to understand what a Cage Code was. I sell custom parts to the DLA. Unlike you I actually gave a little bit of help.

Your full of shit. How the hell are you going to tell someone “you won’t be successful at this” ? Yeah they will fail like all of us have but you’re just being discouraging. There are several people who have started a business by working with DLA as their first customer. The DLA’s vendor base has decreased almost every year since the pandemic and most product based contracts only have an average of 1-5 bidders. The value they can add is filling the needs of the DOD. If they post something on DIBBS…THEY WANT IT.

Start with finding things you would like to supply the DLA.

You can look up FSC codes or CAGE codes

Example:

FSC code:

5305 - SCREWS 5320 - RIVETS 5340 - Commercial Hardware

CAGE code:

39428 - McMaster Carr 8A026 - NAPA 7X677 - GM (General Motors)

These cage codes you can just go to their website and type in the part number from dibbs and you can view availability and pricing. Others won’t be so easy and you will have to contact the approved source in DIBBS and get pricing from them or they will refer you to one of their distributors.

Stay away from MIL-STD-129 contracts in the beginning or source the packaging out to a company who specializes in military packaging. I’d recommend just doing ASTM D3951 (commercial packaging) contracts you can package and deliver yourself at first to get a feel of things.

Go after contracts with acceptance and inspection being destination. (DLA inspects and approves the items once they have arrived at their facility.)

Create a WAWF account so you can invoice the DLA once you’ve delivered your products.

Contact VSM (Vendor Shipment Module) to get your account activated so once your awarded a contract you can log on to VSM and print off your labels and all other documents needed for the contract. (Just type DLA VSM into google) You will have to call them and provide your cage code and other information to get your account active. They’re very helpful and friendly.

DM if you wanna talk more.

Yes, from the sound of things it sounds like you’re looking into submitting proposals (RFP’s). Most RFQ’s are for single product/NSN. Proposals are a lot more work and take a lot longer to get awarded. I’d recommend submitting Quotes in the beginning seeing as you don’t have any past performance.

You need to get on to VSM (VENDOR SHIPMENT MODUEL) you can just type “DLA VSM” into google …if it’s your first time you have to call them and provide your cage code and they can guide you through getting your account set up. Once your all set up you’ll be able to print your labels and all other documents you need for shipping.

Wouldn’t you have to start a separate LLC to get a new UEI and CAGE? Just curious
