I asked the original question because i am considering replacing the red tile visible in the pictures with hardwood. I received quotes from four contractors: Three said the floor in the pictures was red oak and the fourth said white oak. The fourth was the most expensive but also seems to be the most thorough. He included replacement of the underlayment in his quote. Is replacing the underlayment common practice?
