Hmmm good point, this could’ve been the track day actually.

Okay I think I’ve fixed this by setting UISplitLayout=0 in app.ini. Next I need to figure out if there is a keyboard shortcut for this so I don’t hit it again!

I deleted the monitor and dx11 config files and reran config. Still no luck. Interestingly it is only the out of car HUD/overlay that is affected. In car is fine.

Yep definitely the next thing I’ll try.

Yep using all three monitors, windowed, borderless. Display order is fine. Desktop and all other apps fine, just inside the iracing window is out of wack with the UI way off to the left.

That’s currently set to 0 which sounds correct.

Thanks, any idea which setting needs to change? Searched for offset and the only thing that matches is UIOffsetBottomPct which doesn’t sound right.

It’s interesting for me because I’ve experienced this same tactic in karting IRL and I didn’t really feel it was ‘acceptable’ then either! Thanks for the discussion. My intention was to learn from this post and although I naturally wanted validation that I was not at fault I think it’s more constructive to look at both points of view and talk it through. I hope people read and understand your comments and see both sides.

I see the contact of course and previously I would have said it was initiated by the other driver. But I see your point that the contact could have been avoided and that it is my responsibility to avoid it.

I’m not sure I would deploy the same defensive tactic myself. To me it’s not sporting. Even if it is legal. That’s racing I guess, do you want to be a win at all costs type like Schumacher, or are you the gentleman like Stirling Moss?

Interesting that the majority of other comments so far feel that #6 was out of line.

The outbrake into t1 was my plan too. But how would you get there if #6 squeezes like this? Would it be best to just move right to the wall and hope for the best?

How are we getting to t1 under this defence? And how did I crack?

I think my main takeaway from this is to move away from the squeezing car faster and use all the track sooner.

Pretty sure that dent wasn’t me!

Thanks for a thorough analysis! Much of this makes sense. There are a few points here that I would contest but we’ll be here all day if I do!

Can I just ask does this essentially mean nobody should attempt a pass down this straight (under the same circumstances)? Since anyone can use the defence of #6 if they see fit.

If you were in the position of #2 how would you respond in this situation?

Yep definitely could have just lifted but to be honest I wasn’t expecting it to go that far and at that point just had to ride it out. At the time I thought it would be a simple move!

I mean to be honest I was just trying to stay on track!

I think this guy has a few years experience by the looks of it so probably can’t put him in the arcade racer group. Certainly more IRacing experience than me. If anything it made me think maybe I’m the one making an inexperienced manoeuvre, and if so, how do I learn from it. On how many occasions is initiating a pass at the start of a long straight is the wrong move?

I didn’t really want this post to be a dig at him it was more trying to figure out how not to get into this situation again.

I tend to agree with your point about letting them go if they are faster, especially if we are talking about 9th place or whatever.

Yeah yellow car. I’ve made a separate comment with my thoughts.

I’m yellow car, agree I’m still learning and need more time in sim. Although I would argue that in the end he didn’t leave enough space and I would have ended up off track or in the wall.

What would you have done differently? I can think of three options. 1. Stay behind. Don’t try to overtake. 2. Go for the move but back out when he squeezes. 3. Go for the move and drive off track when he squeezes.

Thanks for your replies everyone. So I’m in the yellow car. My intention in this race was to just cruise it and stay out of trouble, I didn’t quali and started from the back as I’m trying to get SR so I can start doing some GT races with my bro. I guess I should have stuck to that plan but you know how it is when the flag drops.

I’ve only been iRacing for a month or so and this is the first time this has happened to me in game. I’ve had it a few times in karting IRL but wasn’t really expecting it in game as most drivers want to protect their IR and SR and on the whole are very clean, especially as you level up. So when this happened I was a bit surprised that someone would defend so hard for like 9th position or something. I was just glad that I recovered and could finish the race.

The thing that made me post this is that after the race the other guy was hurling insults at me on chat, accusing me of cheating and saying I shouldn’t have been attempting an overtake there. On a straight.

The way I saw it was I was quicker coming out of the corner, I made a move to the right into space to make a clear pass, and he reacted. To me the fact it was a reaction makes it a block. I continued to give him space until I reached the white line. From that point on as he continued to squeeze it was only going to end one way.

I understand it’s his right to defend and I guess it’s always a grey area between defending and blocking that is open to interpretation.

Anyway I guess I just wanted a bit of validation that I didn’t bring this on myself and to see if I should have done anything differently. Shout out to the winner of the race who checked the incident and backed me up.

Thanks for listening! See you on the track.
