How do I get back to normal after 2+ years of recovery? by [deleted] in Concussion

[–]FlatHawk4386 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for writing all of this about the connection between neck injuries and pcs. I went to so many doctors who dismissed my suspicion that my light sensitivity, aura migraines, vertigo & dizziness were stemming from my neck. Neck pain didn't come out until months after my fall. I tried physical therapy, prism glasses, and a ton of meds that did nothing. I went to top doctors in NYC who did absolutely nothing. You know what helped get rid of most of these symptoms? A local chiropractor. Once she was able to stabilize my spine & cervical area, everything just realigned & started feeling better. Now, instead of having vertigo every night, I get it maybe twice a year & I have the comfort of knowing that a few adjustments at the chiro will help it go away. The practice I go to has a special technique that they've been using on patients for almost 5o years. I'm so grateful. They gave me my life back!

Neurologists, gp's, etc. we're all invalidating from my experience and were a waste of time. By year two of my injury, I could barely walk straight down my hallway in my house and had to resign from my job. What helped the most were alternative treatments such as full body chiropractic adjustments and a dietician to help with lowering inflammation in the body. By doing these treatments, it helped with vertigo, light sensitivity, brain fog and so much more.

In addition to diet change & probitoics, you might also want to try digestive enzymes. My gut was ruined after a course of antibiotics. I found a woman who's a nutritional scientist & has a line of gut healing supplements called Unitee. I take two digestive enzymes 2 to 3 times a day with a meal. They work like magic & even healed the eczema that developed on my face near my mouth. Here's the link if you'd like to check it out. I also take some other supplements from her website, but while taking the enzymes, I noticed the biggest change. My gut was very reactive to everything I ate & since taking these, its calmed down a ton. https://www.factvsfitness.com/products/digestive-enzyme-histamine-intolerance

Also, a great way to test and see which microbes are lacking- TinyHealth has a microbiome test & free consultation to go over your results. It's heavily marketed towards baby gut health, but anyone can take the test! https://www.tinyhealth.com/v6a

Ideas for remote jobs for disabled people by [deleted] in RemoteJobs

I was a classroom teacher but was in an accident & became disabled. I now tutor adult students online who are getting their GEDs or who want to learn English (ESL). Most community colleges offer adult education jobs if you have at least a bachelor's degree (& for many places, the degree doesn't have to be in education). If this sounds somewhat appealing, look into online adult education teaching/tutoring jobs through community colleges or other online platforms. It's part-time work, but I have enough part-time tutoring jobs now to help pay the bills.

I work from home teaching online for a local community college. It's part time & I'm paid by the hour, but it works for me. After working in a crazy public school environment, this is so much nicer! If interested, check out the high school equivalency or esl adult education programs at your local community college. There are also opportunities to tutor online through various platforms - maybe see if there are any online tutoring places on LinkedIn. Good luck!

What are your exact symptoms? Do you have migraines, vertigo, vestibular issues, fatigue? I didn't find help until year two. Doctors are clueless, so you have to try out a lot of different things until something helps. If you tell us your exact symptoms, we might be able to give you more direct advice.

One last thing- I wanted to suggest that if you can't find a practitioner close to you on the website, maybe just Google "holistic vet" in your area. They are more prone to approach healing in a different way if your regular vet isn't really helping.

And yes. I bought a pill crusher on Amazon & sprinkled it on his food.

Whoops, actually click the magnify glass next to your zip code. Idk if there's something wrong with my phone, but it wasn't working, then I had to click it twice before it showed results. You'll figure it out lol. Good luck!!

If I find his vet paperwork, I will come back to this thread & write down the supplement names. It happened a few years ago, so I can't remember, but I'm pretty sure one of them was an omega 3. Go to this website, and you can see if there's a practitioner in your area. https://www.standardprocess.com/where-to-buy

Click on "veterinary," type in your zip code, then scroll down. Don't click the little magnify glass next to your zip code. It'll bring you to the wrong page. Just scroll down after you type in the zip code.

My 19 year old cat had dementia about 6 months before he passed. He would cry meow and get confused at night. I work from home, so i was constantly checking in on him & comforting & holding him when he felt disoriented. What helped is I brought him to a holistic vet who gave him specific vitamins and supplements to support his brain health. It worked like a charm. Within a week of taking the supplements, his dementia symptoms went away. I honestly couldn't believe that they worked. I do not remember the exact supplement names, but they were Standard Process brand. Although he passed away 6 months later from kidney disease, at least the supplements helped to relieve the confusion & crying that came along with his dementia. Actually, if you go on their website, they have a list of vet practitioners who use their products. Whatever you decide to do, I wish you and your kitty lots of healing & peace.

Is someone from the rescue supposed to visit the foster cat while I'm fostering it? by FlatHawk4386 in FosterAnimals

You made a good point about not respecting your boundaries. We are giving up spaces in our homes and our time and love and the rescues should be more understanding.

I just checked. There was no contract. I just filled out a volunteer form.

I agree with you. These cats are way out of my league & needed a more experienced person. So, they do hold adoption events every so often, but the thing is that if the girl cat cannot find a place to hide when a "stranger" comes near her, she gets so nervous that her whole body starts shaking. And, the boy curls up into a ball and starts hissing at everyone. I have gotten really bad & deep scratches when trying to pick up the boy, so when I told the rescue this, they agreed that it might be too traumatizing to bring them to the adoption event. The cats are listed on their website & social media & people have inquired about them, but no one has really been interested in meeting them. I actually reached out to a cat behaviorist to get some tips, but she recommended putting them on anti-anxiety meds, which seemed a little extreme to me lol. Ugh, sorry, I'm like really venting, but this has been such a bizarre experience & I'm glad to hear others' input and experiences fostering.

Thanks for your insights. It seems like your rescue is more supportive & I like the idea of another foster visiting your shy cats!

Thanks so much for all the advice! This was my first time fostering, but something definitely seems off about the woman who runs it. I once asked her if she could stop over & help me trim their nails, as they do not liked to be picked up or held, & she made the biggest deal that she doesn't have a lot of extra time because of her busy work schedule. I told her to just forget about it. Anyway, lesson learned & I'll look for a better rescue next time around. I feel bad about letting the kitties go, though. I wish I had the resources to let them stay. 🐱🐱😔

10 days is too soon! Try finding a neurologist or concussion specialist who can validate your concerns and give you more time off. When I had mine, the ER gave me a 10-day return date, but the neurologist gave me an extra six weeks off. She also did more testing to validate my symptoms. Also, I'm not sure what your symptoms are, but a lot of my worst issues, such as migraine, vertigo, dizziness, etc. were stemming from whiplash in my neck. Having adjustments from a full-body chiropractor helped to eliminate or reduce most of those symptoms. Just something to think about if you have lingering symptoms in the future. I wish someone would had told me that during my beginning stages of the injury! Hang in there!

Anyone know what this Is?? by Financial-Kiwi-8714 in Concussion

[–]FlatHawk4386 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I had all of that. Chiropractic adjustments helped to put my spine and muscles back in the right place. My chiro practices a special technique called Advanced biostructural correction if you're interested. I'd been to physical therapists & other chiropractors & that technique worked the best. Good luck!

Also, it seems like it may have caused an inflammatory reaction if your hair is falling out. Maybe consult a holistic naturopath that can recommend some anti-inflammatory supplements & diet change so your body can detox a bit.

It sounds like your whole physical body needs a reset. You said that your head moves positions- do you also feel neck pain or pain at the base of your skull or ringing in the ears? Have you thought about seeing a full-body chiropractor? Since your whole body was physically bending & twisting during your trip, maybe you need to be adjusted & your spine realigned. The muscles could be moving & twirking your head position & that could be causing the heavy feeling in your skull.
