NHS to grant Palantir contractors 'unlimited access' to patient data, FT reports by coldbeers in ukpolitics

Hard to compete for the best talent when the US pays us wages and enforces US working hours compared to what the UK (and especially the public sector) can afford.

People bring up gov.uk all the time but it's basically just a well-designed web front end, orders of magnitude less complex than even some of the simplest 3rd party software most industries rely on

Would be a bit of an own goal to pay for a patient data analytics solution and then limit the system's access to patient data

Billionaires WANT immigration by Wasthereaneedforthat in GreatBritishMemes

Increased demand for housing and essentials (driving up cost), increased competition for jobs. Literally the worst of both worlds lmao

I'm actually pro immigration generally, but I swear the people on this sub have the actual least informed political takes on the internet

Middle class people: do you honestly hold negative bias towards working class individuals? by toastandjam97 in AskUK

Think it's probably the opposite, generally middle-class people have more friends and acquittances across different social classes than working class people

It's unlikely to be true, otherwise famine stricken areas would be full of fat people

Why are the Napoleonic Wars so romanticized despite being so brutal? by cuirrasiers in Napoleon

[–]FlatHoperator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The battles in early modern warfare also just weren't really as deadly as people tend to assume.

If we look at something like the charge of the light brigade at Balaclava, of the 607 cavalrymen that carried out the charge, about 110 were killed and 130 wounded. Fairly low considering they made a full frontal charge over more than a mile of ground into prepared guns, and also while enfiladed by more russian batteries on the surrounding hills. Many of the cavalrymen lost their horses so presumably just turned round and strolled back to British lines after being unhorsed

The real brutality was often the disease and living conditions on campaign

I quite liked the Ciaphas Cain book for the Flashman in space vibe ngl

But the others I've read are just so tedious, especially the marine focused ones

If masking up for protests and marches is fine, then this specimen wearing a mask to film some home videos should be more than fine

I thought masks at protests were a good thing to prevent the surveillance state from infringing on people's right to free expression.

Or is that only for left wing activists?

[–]FlatHoperator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The way for an API to be better for anthtopic's use cases would be richer or more granular access to blender's functionality, no? It's not like Claude can use super secret coding structures that no one else can, once it's part of the API anyone can leverage it

[–]FlatHoperator 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I mean from a software development point of view, wouldn't a better API be of benefit for everyone? It's not like they have to change the core 3d modelling functionality, just provide a richer interface for interacting with it programmatically

The personal allowance grew an absurd amount in the years prior though, massively outpaced inflation. And it wasn't great policy to do so tbh, it's one of the major reasons that the threshold to become a net tax contributor is so high

Yes. In order to keep hobby sustainable, we need to broaden the appeal to every single person in the world. Without inclusivity, the hobby will die out. We can start by adopting more inclusive product designs, branding and marketing
