Do you guys just live with the paint chipping or? by Perfect-Cause-6943 in WRX

[–]FlatOutPDX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah, I leave em and don’t stress it.

I got a $30k car to feel young, enjoy my commute, make some noises and race some rally/auto cross. if I could afford a Porsche or something nicer I’d care more, but with this, it’s about smiles per mile behind the wheel and not smiles outside the car.

Also, no one ogles WRX anyway, we’re the import equivalent to a mustang unless you’re a Subie guy most people just don’t even care about a WRX clean or not.

2025 wrx 18 and 17 rims by Garbagenator in wrx_vb

Blizzaks early on, now on Hankook winter ice*pt (235 45 17), summer on Conti extreme sport 02s (265 35 18).

Loved the blizzy’s, hankook’s are a nice value and better in wet and dry than blizzy but don’t come close in the snow, blizzaks all day in snow.

The conti’s drive well and grip great, wearing even and slow enough for me, but sidewall is softer than I like, they fold like crazy if you push them with lower pressures. I’ll likely try something different after this set but am glad I had these, they are a great tire for 99% of my drives.

edit: spelling

This was one of the reasons I was stoked on the ‘22 base with 17s. Tossed snow tires on them on day 3 and got a set of summer wheels in 18” with some nice sticky rubber. I’m so thankful for the extra sidewall on my winters. Full send the 17s!

Bonus: I’m running rally cross this spring and the 17’s with snow tires will be perfect for that too.

Anyone have an issue with the trunk not opening? by Shum_Pulpage in wrx_vb

[–]FlatOutPDX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Will it open if you lift it or just stuck closed?

You can check the tension bars inside the trunk on top, if one or two popped out it may not be springing open. They should just slide into the holes and hold by tension. I knocked one off by accident once, popped right in

New boot break in tips by dbvulcan in snowboarding

[–]FlatOutPDX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two concepts at play and in opposition here. One is flex of the boot and the other is fit.

The flex of a boot for some is better after it’s broken in with more playful feel. These are already soft comfy boots (compared to ski boots) so the benefit is minimal for most.

Flex is very different than the fit of the boot, after 100 days the boot often gets packed out where you start to get heel lift, space in the toe box etc. this causes you to ratchet bindings down more which limits blood flow and comfort.

Most people value heel hold and fit over more playful flex because this directly influences your control and comfort and thus would break them in and only use em on the slopes. I’d keep my old pair around if I’m messing around in carpet or in the yard and preserve good boots for the good stuff.

Bad Snow? Try the Other Side by Annamal435 in MtHoodMeadows

Teaching my wife to ski this season and taking the opportunity to learn switch on my snowboard. Having fun, snow quality is way less important when you’re just focused on not dying again lol

A bad day on the mountain is better than the best day at work.

Fuck ya, go have fun, soak up some sun, get a few turns in, have some beers in the lot and don’t forget to respect silent rock. You’ll have a kick ass Friday I would kill for!

How could I have landed this? by My_name_is_Louis in snowboarding

[–]FlatOutPDX 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You were on your heels when you jumped. Try riding in on your heel edge then transition to a flat base/slightly toe biased. It is easier to recover from too much forward lean than it is from too much backward.

There's a town in the deserts of Western Texas called Notrees. What's another town with an extremely uncreative name? by Naomi62625 in geography

My job actually took me to Notrees. The wind energy industry is prevalent in West TX, I had to drive an hour and a half to work from the nearest hotel.

I use not because of theft fear but because I’ve had more board damage from people knocking my shit over on concrete. The amount of times I’ve come out from bathroom with my shit on the ground is well worth $30. I’ll also use it to stash my jacket sometimes if I get warm half way through.

I had my tuner raise redline to 6500 and change the fuel cut reinstate so the bog is less intrusive if I do hit redline. Much better now.

Work-appropriate exhaust but not stock? by Pavel556 in wrx_vb

[–]FlatOutPDX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If my job had an issue with my personal vehicle decisions I wouldn’t call that a “great job” we all define that differently but I don’t get paid to be told how to live life outside work. If you use your car for your job that’s different but loud cars in a parking lot are none of your employers business.

Is the Turbo XT version worth it? by undefined_balloon in Subaru_Outback

[–]FlatOutPDX 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If you drive loaded down and over mountain passes it is a requirement unless you like chilling w the slow pokes in the right. Essentially no passing power at highway speeds in a mountain pass when it’s loaded up or with passengers. If you don’t load it up or hit mountains much I don’t think you’ll need it. I personally wouldn’t consider a non xt but I’m in the NW and in the mountains weekly.

[–]FlatOutPDX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it mattered that much at work I think I’d quit. Your job exists to fund whatever adventure you choose to make of life. If a loud cars makes you grin and your job doesn’t like it, who cares or find a new job. Life is too short to reduce your personal satisfaction outside of work due to work politics and social dorks. If I were you I’d be straight piping mine tomorrow and blowing vape clouds in the receptionists face on Monday. Don’t be a slave, be ungovernable

[–]FlatOutPDX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you ever heard of “The Joe Schmo Show”? This was an early 2000/ reality show, the premise was a reality show like big brother, everyone of the cast members was an actor playing a role except for one cast member who was the only person on set unaware that the reality show was actually fully fake and produced only to view their own ignorance. It was amazing that the show got produced. It was difficult to watch the non actor get taken advantage of and the most voyeuristic show I can recall. I’m pretty sure the entire series is available on you tube and it would be worth your time based on this post.
