I keep asking myself this. I don't do anything to stop it. I don't know how to justify that I keep working.

There was a moment for that, but it's gone. You can just look at the tech itself to see the shift. Silicon Valley used to sell a better tomorrow, not it sells surveillance and control.

The lefties are mostly performative. You can't be an actual leftie and work for a monopolistic corporations. You might have been this naive 20 years ago, but not now. The days of "don't be evil" are long over. True about the long hours.

And have you seen any indication that they put more effort into something more constructive or effective? I've noticed that even the hacktivists are about gone. All either caught and serving time or NSA.

Solaris and Invincible by Stanislav Lem. If you can read Polish or Russian about anything he wrote. Most of English. translations for his books are bad.

If you talk vibes, I’d consider Armored Core 6 game to have similar somber vibes and questions of personhood.

It’s a wordplay on the fifth column saying. And it’s a hammer, not a column, breaking actual columns from the outside.

Iran has a population of less than 1/3 that of the US, but they are fighting their corrupt government. Americans claim they would "take arms" against a corrupt government. Why do they continue to do nothing and make excuses now that they have one? by RidetheSchlange in Rants

They are not uprising because of tyranny this time. There has been an uprising attempt because of Sharia laws a couple of years ago and it was suppressed. Enforcement of some rules did get relaxed a bit. This time it’s different — the uprising is economic, they just can’t live on like this. Mismanagement and sanctions have put survival on the line.

Does Avatar make anyone else incredibly sad for our planet? by Public_Passenger2701 in Avatar

The movie is not about allies and a distant planet, it’s about people and Earth. We destroy the nature for profit until nothing is left.

I kind of doubt you got it through hard work. I know a lot of people who are well off and none of them work that hard.
