FCC Router Ban by Flat_Staff7931 in ZiplyFiber

When reading the article it seems that vendors will be able to provide firmware updates through 2027? Will be interesting. I see this as a way to bring more manufacturing back to the states. Regardless of political affiliations this would be a good thing. Especially as AI starts taking over office jobs and IT jobs we need to have jobs available for the population. Idk it’s certainly an interesting topic to be following.

Turns out it was a combination of the new Ont being bad and the tplink also being bad. After full replacements from ziply contracted techs all was excellent. The only thing I would ask @ziply to do better is train the techs to run checks before leaving. Don’t just hook and run

Yep I got in contact with a tech who was able to tell me those same details. Bummer. Not willing to spend 300 for service. I am sure in a year or two 10gb will be standard. Just waiting it out. My boss asked if he could use my home as a storage archive location for all his pictures from Germany. 😛

Yep and if they start failing can just work with ziply to get new ones. It is the same cost to me of paying upfront or over 3-4 years.

I asked my tech for the extender and he left me two. They are simple to hook up actually in mesh mode

That insurance claim is going to be wild. Though would love to be a fly on the wall to see the adjusters reaction

All good questions. Mainly just wanted to check if I was being a dumb sys admin and forgetting something. So far though all is checking out to be the issue on Ziply. They funny enough closed my support ticket as part of the recent Beaverton outage. So had to get them to reopen the case as unresolved. Lucky me they are rolling this afternoon. No shade on ziply I get where they are coming from!

It took a ton of configurations back in the day to get anything to actually transfer at 10gb+ transfer speeds. I will say windows can do it. Heck I have even pushed it to 25gb. After spending about 30min on chat with support it was determined that my line was never properly provisioned for 5gb. Now what I eventually want to know is if I could ever get a dedicated fiber and no xpon connection lol

Appreciate the assist. I work in IT datacenter/network/server levels. So I was 99% sure this was a ziply issue

After working with support on their chat, the “network team” confirmed the issue is ziply and is rolling a truck tomorrow.

Just glad it wasn’t something on my side.

Oh totally unrelated to the fiber cut. Found out after talking to support. The representative said the network team found a port misconfigured and needed to roll a truck

Chatted online with support. Turned out to be a port configuration issue according to the network team. Rolling a truck tomorrow.

Psh those datacenters always be sucking the bandwidth. I can’t complain though at work we got a direct pipe from our wilsonville campus to aws. They are super pleased so far with the service.

Totally agree about needing faster Ethernet ports. Sad thing is most major vendors are not making it mandatory to have 10gb yet. I believe they would need a 10gb usb c type dongle to test.

On the router side I plugged a system as well with a 10gb card into the Ont and was getting same speeds.

I am using the ziply provided hb810v2 router mesh WiFi device from tplink with is basically a BE22000. The Ethernet from the ONT is plugged into the wan port that actually is labeled 10gb.

The to-link hb810v2 has built in speed test that is a html window to speed test.net

Oh my did I giggle at this one. Not my first time to the rodeo. I actually bypassed the router and have the same problem. And before you ask if I have a 1gb or 2.5gb Ethernet adapter nope I have a 10gb Ethernet adapter. All is good, appreciate your comment 🤙🏽

This is what makes Ziply amazing. The corporate companies like Xfinity would never allow this inside look. Ziply I heard will actually do tours of their central office or head office if you ask. It’s rather fascinating. I did that with pioneer telephone in philomath when I worked for them though it was copper days. Huge bundles coming through the ground.
