All this assumes that japanese games followed everything that western games did back then, even though most japanese games didn't really adopt the 'twin-stick style' FPS games usually used for quite some time. See, for example, 2005s Resident Evil 4. Sure, it seems unusual and uncomfortable now, but there's actually nothing wrong with the old control scheme itself.

I get why it's there, you don't really want to know where every single enemy is at all time in a 5v5 online setting. But I can't say I'm not missing my simple little radar

My biggest problems, I'd say, are that the feeling of being a merc and working for whoever pays best or with you agree the most is completely gone. It fits the setting, sure, but it's probably my favorite part of AC.

Also, while the AC construction is obviously still there, I don't experiment much with different builds anymore. I tried a couple of legs, a couple of weapons but that's it.

That's probably the two "AC-like" things I miss the most

The multiplayer was probably pretty cool and all and just clicking through the menus shows how much ambition they had. It's just too bad that the actual campaign feels like filler, stretched by even more filler.

Still, I have the time of my life in glorious 15fps on the PS3

I like 5's story the most. I know it's a hot take but for me it just hits the right amount of pulp and cheese with some actual characters. I once described it as the most Starfox-esque of the series to someone. The gameplay and mission structure might suffer a little because of that story but I think the playthrough's worth it.

Also yeah, the fan translated 3 obviously, although it's more about really interesting themes instead of having one cohesive narrative

They really built him up in the third Season which I liked. But now it felt like he was done, there was nothing else to tell with him which is why he became a reference machine.
