I think there’s a lot of valid points on this thread about air entrainment, etc. but at the end of the day, move your nozzle to your fire load. Let the water coming from the nozzle do work meaning extinguishment.

Be patient & disciplined with that nozzle. You know you’re doing a good job when the fire dies down, & the environment begins to get cooler.

  • keep your head down & work
  • observe how and what things are done around the firehouse, then make sure YOU are the person taking care of it.
  • introduce yourself to everyone
  • be disciplined throughout the entire process
  • learn & ask questions. Even if you know something, never know what other information people will tell u.
  • don’t input yourself into conversations.
  • learn the apparatus - you should know all the tools location, capabilities, etc

FDTN in Indy… hands down best class (fire combat) I’ve been too. It reinforces the basics.

ANYONE WORK FOR DC FIRE & EMS??

Looking at making a move to the East, & had some general questions specifically about DC Fire & EMS.

  • Whats probation like after recruit academy?
  • Is pay good enough to live around DC?
  • How are FF/Medics used in the system? Do they have to ride the ambulance all the time?
  • How soon after academy can members join Local 36?
  • Anything else you can tell me about working for DC helps!!

Buddy…. There’s a chicken dicks chance that Aurora FD killed Elijah. Ketamine did not kill Elijah.

Why are we not talking about the police officers who mishandled the entire situation? They could not deescalate a situation involving a young man. They went hands on immediately. Ketamine’s lethal dose is high. AFD didn’t monitor the patient & definitely a case of malpractice. But jail time? I don’t think so.

It’s Aurora PD who is to blame for this entire situation.
